Note that the PC ver. of Munch will get an update eventually much like Stranger's Wrath.

Excerpt from Daily Deception
Munch's Oddysee is the 2nd part of the Oddworld series' Pentalogy, after Abe's Oddysee (Abe's Exoddus and Stranger's Wrath being side-stories). The HD re-release has been improved in a number of ways, with more detailed models and textures, re-mastered dialogue and full trophy support (including a platinum).

The game's story follows Abe and Munch as they must work together to save their respective races from the Industrial Corporations that have abducted their brethren, and in the case of Munch, the eggs of his fellow Gabbits, which are to be used as a new delicacy, Gabbiar.

I hope the updated version runs fine on my rig. I never got the updated version of Stranger to run well :(.

Yep, cannot wait to pick this and strangers up on vita. Of course that will make 3 times I have purchased the game but its worth it for Oddworld.

I really can't wait for abe hd, and more importantly for some new adventures in oddworld. I just ordered the limited artbook from ballistic aswell as alittle christmas present to myself.

I just wish this release (of Munch) was for Vita. JAW said that's not coming out 'til around February.

I never had any experience with this game. I am just wondering is the game worth it and can it be considered as a proud member of the franchise?

Oh I know.....but atleast we get strangers wrath today. Besides its not like february is far away. Any oddworld is good oddworld, series has been dormant for too long.

I know Abe's Exoddus was stated to be outside of the pentology. Was Stranger's Wrath the same way?

Yup, Wrath is a side story.

I absolutely loved this game back on original Xbox. Along with PGR2 its the only Xbox game I still have in my possession.

So anyone been playing this? Impressions?

I only played up til
taking control of Munch
I watched the video that gave a quick recap of the events of Abe's games, but holy heck were they dark! I'd like to think it's because of my HDTV, but even in-game I ended up having to increase the brightness of my HDTV.
...but much like Stranger's Wrath this is a great HD port, 60 FPS, smooth animations, graphics were re-done very well.
A few things though:
1- Horizontal camera movement seems slow, didn't find an option to increase its speed
2- The camera controls suit me fine, but an option to invert would be good to have for those that don't like the current scheme
3- No subtitles? There are some in-game scenes were subtitles can be added, so hopefully a future patch can add them in.

Sweet satisfaction being able to finally play this on Playstation after nearly a decade of being pissed at Microsoft for stealing it and interrupting our Quintology. It's not a bad little game, not without it's share of problems but it's just pure Oddworld. I'll run down some pros and cons.

+ Plays almost like you'd imagine Abe's Oddysee would if it were 3D, and worth checking out just for that
+ Has tons of charm and character, and Munch I think is one of gaming's best unsung heroes.
+ Taxing and inventive puzzles with that trademark Odd humour.
+ Character switching between Abe and Munch is cool, combining both abilities.
+ 60fps
+ Munch in his wheelchair is awesome.
+ Cheap as all hell, great value.

- An almost constant struggle with the camera.
- Some wierd inconsistencies with previous games - possession now demands 'Spooce' to work, and for some reason Abe now jumps high and curled up almost like Sonic the Hedgehog. Picking up Mudokons by the ass and throwing them around isn't as interesting as guiding them purely with speech. Stuff like Abe's ground roll taken out, gives the whole thing a different feel to classic Oddworld. Missing some of Exoddus's better aspects like emotional Mudokons. Overall design is half as good as the Abe games.
- Some muddy graphics and occasionally drab environments, like a long sewer level less than an hour in. Quite unremarkable looking, unlike Stranger with it's often lush scenery.

I haven't seen this on the UK/EU PSN store :( I ended up buying the game unlock and assumed I would be able to download the trial edition to get it working but I haven't seen the full game/trial in the last few days on the store.

Anyone else has a similar issue? not even on the webstore, I don't see it.

The worthless controls are destroying my will to play through the game. For some reason, if I insist on rotating the camera to get some bearing, the turn controls for Abe spaz out, and I end up walking off a cliff. A perfect example of this is the early tutorial area if you try to jump onto the wooden walls to grab the bulbs there.

^ Ignores the pull of cross-buy imo. Guess they expect their fans to really want to pick it up twice..

After playing Stranger's Wrath (and seeing how awesome it is), I'll be picking this up when it comes to Vita.

If I thought Stranger's Wrath was pretty darn bad, will I dislike this as well? Pretty much everything about Stranger's Wrath was bad in my opinion, so just curious if this is more of the same.

Yeah, it sucks :(

Will probably pick this up when it comes to Vita

Correct. And it will be $9.95 :)

Correct - "We can't afford to just give games away" says Oddworld Inhabitants/JAW

LULZ, I guess at least they're not lying after they pretty much stole money when they released their initial PC version with the way they ran. They have to have the worst fucking PR team I've seen ever, I think I'll hold off now.

Well, they actually said that in regards to Stranger's Wrath (got confused about what thread i was in) but it's probably the same for Munch.

Nah, I'm sure it is too. I didn't think it would be it's just the way they word stuff like that. If they really said "We can't afford to just give games away" then that's some awful sounding PR is all and I'm still somewhat bitter about giving them money for a game that didn't work for months and months and months and that quote just brought that up again. I'll wait to get it on vita I guess for now.

Hey everyone,
Thanks for the ... varying comments.

Stranger's Wrath PC was original a straight port, which is what we were hired to do. Yes there WERE problems and we fixed most of those up pretty quickly. BUT we announced we'd give the HD version away for FREE to PC users, which is exactly what we did earlier this year.

In terms of "We can't afford to give stuff away for free." It was me that said that, you'll have to appreciate that I'm straight talking, I don't lie, I don't stand behind PR bullshit, so I'll tell you like it is.

As for us running with the money from the original PC version of Stranger, not true, we didn't do great with it, in terms of revenue, due to the problems, but EVERY CENT of that revenue, went into the HD version for PS3/VITA and PC.

If you have any issues, then ask me and I'll do my best to respond to them.

In terms of a couple of you thinking Stranger was "bad" that's opinion, like everyone we all have opinions, personally I don't like RPG or RTS or FPS titles, but that's me, I won't rip those titles apart, just because I don't like them doesn't mean they are not good titles, it's just my opinion and taste.

Cheers

Yeah for some reason the search function is broken :(

Go to PS3 Demos and there will be a link to it there, I've just checked and it IS there.

Okay so I've found the trial in the demo section... NOT in the PS+ trial section where I would have expected it to be. And the search is broken... I hate this new store.

Thanks a lot man, appreciate you coming onto the forums and helping out/answering questions <3
