Holy fuck, wasn't expecting so many votes.

~57 votes for a total of 110 different albums.

Need to do the individual categories now.

Edit: :scust: at these results.

Ugh.

Edit edit: Kind of. A few redeeming factors.

That's nothing try tallying over 550 different albums.

ill say that this year definitely was more unified in what albums were nominated. I see less of the superindie bandcamp stuff on lists this year; established indie artists brought it this time

For next year, if somehow there's enough interest, we should trim the top 15/20/25 albums and have people vote from those nominees.

That's actually a pretty good list and song of the year outside of Life Is Good and Control System being over Cruel Summer and Harry Fraud getting to share producer of the year.

Good stuff, GAF-Hop.

This is dumb, all this does is promote invariability on a large scale and make the scores even less representative of what the populace voted for.

3 of 5 Cruel Summer's best songs were already getting played out before it was even released.
Which doesn't mean jack shit. I stopped listening to Nasty and The Don way before Life Is Good came out, and that album was pretty meh overall, but I still made sure to factor those songs in because they were on the album regardless and that doesn't somehow change the album's quality. Most of the albums in OP had all of their songs drip-fed pre-release too, doesn't change shit.

The album is just as consistent as all the others in OP really, and on top of that it's highs are some of the highest all year. Every song on there they knocked out of the park, from Mercy to New God Flow to Higher to To The World to Clique. List goes on.

I thought Cruel Summer had around 8 or 9 songs that I liked. I agree that it had some really high highs like possibly some of my favorite tracks ever now. But a few tracks, I simply though care for at all that put me completely to sleep

Also because you listened to what you thought what were the best songs is your fault. Maybe you should learn not to play songs over and over before an album comes out. It helps me

Cruel Summer gets knocked because people expected so much more. The album we got was pretty damn good though.

That was K.R.I.T.'s problem with Live from the Underground. But his biggest issue was that he put a better mixtape the same year.

I don't know how much more you could expect out of a posse album with as much variety and crazy highs as Cruel Summer has, TBH.

I set my expectations pretty low and they got smashed. We got Ghost and Ma$e verses that didn't suck, a song for hip-hop heads like New God Flow that nobody saw coming with expectations of pop singles only and the direction Ye's production style has gone, the best thing R.Kelly has done in years, Big Sean's verses convincing the biggest of haters to fall back, CyHi Tha Nyquil having the best verse on the entire project, enough space for everyone at GOOD to get their shine outside of D'Banj I guess and songs that sound like nothing else out there right now.

I honestly think it's an album you listen to and you can feel the effort put into making everything perfect, and sequenced perfect. I feel that same way about GKMC, RAP Music, 4EvaNaDay and to a lesser extent Russian Roulette, and feel that's a big reason why those stand out. The album knew what it wanted to be and executed near-flawlessly. I see a lot of the disappointment as people not wanting it to be a compilation though.

The point is that when I got the album I expected to find more bangers and was left with pretty much nothing else. It is not my fault. It is Kanye and company's fault for not making the rest of the album up to par with its singles...ASSHOLE

Name an album from any artist part of Cruel Summer that made one full of bangers. I will give a hint; nobody so it' s dumb to expect that. You made those ridiculous expectations yourself. Cruel Summer was basically half and half on bangers and you ask for more. Just lol

LFTU didn't suck, it's highs just weren't nowhere near as good as the stuff on all 3 of his previous tapes. Plus I really, really liked 4EvaNaDay, much more than all of his previous work which put me into hype mode for LFTU and that all came crashing down.

The sad part is, you really can't even blame the label for what it was considering KRIT pretty much put his all into it and always seemed super down with the product outside of having to switch a few samples.

I'll still keep an ear out for KRIT (he even put out a song today produced by 9th but it was too wack to post lol), but let's not act like he dropped Radioactive.

ah but we expected Radioactive to suck (or at least i did). that's the difference.

Lol, I won't lie I did feel like he dropped a Radioactive on me. I was really disappointed when I heard the album, but I mean I guess at least he didn't switch his sound up like Yelawolf did. He straight fooled my ass, never again. Either way, I'm still a fan of KRIT and I can't wait to see what he does in the future.

Is it safe to assume most of GAF disliked Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors? I thought it was better than everything other than GKMC.
