Hope they create some sort of ecosystem in X, something like MHTri's at the least would be nice to see.

Creatures felt so detached in Xenoblade because there wasn't anything like that present, especially in Makna forest.

I finished a quick play through of Xenoblade on new game+ last night, avoiding most battles, doing no side quests etc., just to do the main story, and this bit of the ending jumped out at me (XENOBLADE ENDING SPOILERS):

Alvis (in flashback): "Shulk. This new world is boundless. It is home to not only you, but many forms of life. I can see it. In this world, all life will walk towards the future hand in hand."

Shulk (to Fiora): "One day I hope I can meet them all, the people of this endless world."
Fiora: "Me too. We will. I know it."
Shulk: "We'll meet them. And whatever happens, we'll face our future, together."

Funny how a maybe-it's-a-sequel trailer can make you see that little conversation a bit differently.

I've been assuming that same scenario should it be a sequel to Xenoblade.
Especially with the concept art of 'X' being of a ship having crash landed.

Yeah, that stuck out to me as well.

So many possibilities with this game and the Xeno/blade series - it could literally go anywhere.

I vaguely remember some concept art from years back with a UFO sticking out of the ground, always wondered what happened with that. The time frame it was released in means it couldn't have anything to do with X though. Xenoblade early development maybe, but I remember seeing it on a website that hasn't existed in years.

which concept art?
any links?

That UFO though, is speculated to be Schlafen Celeste from Super Robot Tansei OG Endless Frontier:

Seeing as they did that game; original game is from 2008 with an "EXCEED" version released in 2010, and this image released in 2011. So whatever's going up is anyone's guess.

Found this on Yasuyuki Honne's Facebook page, could be related? It's from 2011. Either way, it looks cool:

Didn't we see something like this on a computer monitor from a Monolith Soft office pic recently? I remembered that had drummed up speculation that they might be working on something Baten Kaitos related.
I don't think it was very recently, but I know what you're talking about. Can't find a very large image, though.

Creatures felt so detached in Xenoblade because there wasn't anything like that present, especially in Makna forest.

Most of XB's fauna fit the themes of the areas it belonged to quite well and felt no less detached than any other JRPG I've played. You'd never find Vangs outside of caves, Armus would only roam the plains, Flamis would only be found around shorelines, Piranhax were always found swimming in water, Antols and most other bug-like creatures would always be crawling around in grassy areas or caves, Volffs only hunted at night, Brogs would only be found near water or caves/cave-like areas, the Deinos would only prowl the forest, and so forth.

This recruitment ad was posted on 22/12/2010 on Monolith' site (and I believe Andriasang picked it up and reported on it the same day). A while later, Monolith reported that its project was progressing well and posted a new notice on their site (with the same UFO pic as its banner) saying they were recruiting the following:

programmers with Havok and shader experience;
planners;
3D CG designers;
2D designers with character and mech design experience;
effect designers;
and motion designers.

This, without a doubt, fits X to a T. (Also, unless my memory fails me, they started recruiting for their Wii U project long before they did for their 3DS one.)

I don't think it was very recently, but I know what you're talking about. Can't find a very large image, though.

This would have to do with their 3DS project which is being developed by Monolith Kyoto and being led by Honne (who also drew the picture), I believe.

Sorry about the really bad pic quality, but the mech at 0:54 has a blue body:

Either this points towards customizable mechs or they are scattered throughout the environment, could explain why they're named 'mass-manufactured Dolls'.

People living in giant pastries and cakes turned me off the game and I stopped playing the game right there. That and I was not used to playing such lineir rpgs.

Wasn't that pretty much at the end of the game? I think that was pretty much the only strange area in the whole game (it also had that 8bit dungeon IIRC) and it was a nice change of pace at that point. Liked the turn to the weird and I was a little disappointed that nothing like that was present in BKO.

Baten Kaitos made marvels with the fixed 2D background paradigm. I still remember how I was completely in awe when I played the game the first time.

This in HD would be almost too much for my heart. If only Yoshi would have gone that way instead of making everything out of yarn.

Wow. I kind of hate reviewers for "meh"ing these games back in the day and making me miss out on them now. They look beautiful.

BKO getting a 75 on Metacritic is a crime. How does such a good RPG get a 75?? And how does the first game get a higher score (80) when it's a worse game?

Most people will tell you it's a good if not great series. You don't have a GC or Wii to play them though? They're cheap on Amazon/Ebay.

The real shame is that BKO only has an average of 76%, 5% lower than BK1, despite being the vastly superior game and one of the best RPGs of the last generation.

I'd like to go back to it right now in order to fight some battles. I think nothing's quite as satisfying as being able to pull off a really great, fast-paced combo. BKO's battles really hit the perfect sweetspot between strategy and luck.

This is a reason to stop playing a game? Because people live in pastries in one town?

I was sort of forcing my way through the game up till that point because of the lack of exploration and adventure. I was staying for the enjoyable battle system.

The cake town just took me out of the game, it would be like watching Aliens and during one scene in the middle of the movie Sigourney Weaver turns into a wizard. It would just break the rules of the universe they set up and weird me out to much.

I had both, but not any more, just a Wii U, so no GC compatibility. Back in the day when there was nothing to play on the GC these would have been great though.

I take it you haven't seen the director's cut?

Guys, really: Baten Kaitos is dead, Xenosaga is dead, Xenogears is dead. Neither series is ever coming back. And it doesn't matter.

Baten Kaitos could still get another installment. Especially given the pretenses that Baten Kaitos Origins was published under, it would be possible (and from Honne's art on the projects he's doing, the size of Monolith now, and the general passion that Honne has for the property, it's entirely possible). The other two, nope.

It really looks like (BK1 spoiler)
Diadem beneath the clouds. Which would make sense if BK3 existed and was a sequel to BK1.

Well, that they've posted the artwork online pretty much confirms that the project is dead. I doubt they would post artwork for an in-the-works game just like that, especially when everyone can see that it's related to one of their existing franchises.

I think that BK is pretty close to Honne's heart, though, so I can very well imagine that he's pushing for a BK sequel. Question is if Iwata is willing to give the games another sequel, despite it really not making a whole lot of sense financially. Probably not.

But, really, as much as I'd like to see a new BK, I'm content with a new game by Honne that's a new IP and not some licensed cash-in.

I don't see that at all, especially since that pic was first posted in a job posting on a computer.

I remember A LOT of people absolutely slamming the game because the characters sounded like they were trapped in tin cans. Granted, I turned off the voices within the first 10 minutes of playing, but I think that gave a really bad impression out of the gate. I just don't see why so many people were so lukewarm on the game at the time.

EDIT--
Oops, you were talking about Origins. I never played it so I'm not sure if my comments still apply.

Baten Kaitos won't come back, either. It's done, stop living in the past.

Based on what, exactly? The other installments you listed are either 1) tied with Square-Enix or 2) over. Nintendo already was able to publish Baten Kaitos Origins even though the IP was owned by Namco-Bandai (we don't know who owns the IP now). There's nothing stopping a new BK game besides Nintendo and MonolithSoft themselves.

I'm not opposed to another new IP. I'd love another BK game. But to say it's dead is... wrong.

Also, I personally don't think another Baten Kaitos game is out of the realm of possibility.

ALSO, I have a theory about the whole trailer. I notice when the trailer cuts to Shulk his eyes are closed and he raises his head, opens his eyes and looks at the camera,
maybe everything you see before that is from the future and is being envisioned by Shulk, then it cuts to Shulk and he raises his head and opens his eyes to show he has snapped back to reality. There is the fact that his eyes turn blue when in a vision
but they could of turned back to normal as soon as the trailer cut to him with his head down or Monolith Soft thought it would give away his identity too easily, they thought it would be too obvious. I'm probably thinking way too into it but it's just something that popped into my mind.

Either this points towards customizable mechs or they are scattered throughout the environment, could explain why they're named 'mass-manufactured Dolls'.

Well, only the Doll used by the player is referred to as a "mass-production model", while the enemy has a unique name (Vasara). The main characters Doll will likely have a name in the finished game too, but it being mass produced wouldn't necessarily mean it can be upgraded, we may just switch Dolls during the story, or get several different types that we can use as we see fit.

The thing that has my attention most about the Dolls is the sword held by the player. As I translated earlier, the attack it uses to cut off the monsters head in the trailer is literally "Anti-Matter Bastard". Anyone that knows anything about sci-fi should know that in most sci-fi universes, "anti-matter" is the be-all end-all of weapons. Weapons that can cut or pierce anything, bombs that can completely eradicate all matter within the vicinity of their blasts, lasers that can't be stopped by any form of defence, etc. If the sword is indeed anti-matter (and it's not just a cool-sounding name they chose for a powerfull attack) I'd find it hard to believe that the sword is mass-produced in the same way as the Doll, and with the swords hilt essentially being shaped like the letter "X" it just makes it harder for me to dismiss it.

Pretty much:

But it's Honne, it's his style.

Ok, there is definitely more than a little resemblance right there.
Also this:

Damn, Baten Kaitos Origins is pretty much the best RPG no one ever played. A true modern classic. And I think that next Honne directed game should be on a HD system (and I'd squeal for a Baten Kaitos Origins HD remaster). And I thought Baten Kaitos 1 was so-so, but the prequel was just so good that it made it so that it's worth to play the original game just to understand the bitch slaps and clever rewriting of history that the prequel is doing, masterful really.

I just checked amazon.com again, and damn (!), it's at 120 now. Wasn't it 80 or 90 a week ago?

Damn, it's really that hard to get? I was just checking it out after hearing about it due to this trailer (I skipped out on the last part of Wii's life and missed apparently a handful of sweet games that I never knew existed). It's available for pickup at a few gamestop locations throughout NYC last time I checked. Maybe I should pick it up if it's really that rare.
