LittleBigPlanet 3 in works at Sumo Digital VG247 rumour [Up: Found On Resume]

The PS3 is being retargeted as a family platform for when the PS4 is out so this fits with that strategy.

Yeah, fits with the strategy well. It would allow Sony to continue to push ps3 as a family device, though who knows how successful that effort has been so far. I imagine not very! As long as mm is doing something else.

Like others have said, Sony is positioning the PS3 as a family system as they move the hardcore on to the PS4. Any LBP at this point would do better on PS3 with its larger and more diverse install base.
If that's the case then I hope they drop the price to $150 this fall and not make an obscenely priced (for families) PS3 bundle with this game and Move and sell it for $400.

A $400 bundle to entice families would be hilarious. I want to say that it would make sense for them to finally drop the price really low but neither Sony or Microsoft have dropped their respective console's price by more than $50 this generation. A drop to anything under $180 would be refreshing.

I'd be surprised if this sells well on PS3 compared to the past games. If they are making a new one, get rid of the floaty physics which seem to turn a lot of people off and put it on PS4. It will lure a lot of the LBP community over and the new console with have a platformer right off the bat.

I've heard suggestions that point to price cuts around E3.

They have to kill backwards compatibility if they want to change the jump physics. There's an argument for it; just depends on how Sony feels about splitting the user base.

Well there is some doubt PS4 will have BC so it seems as good a time as any to make a fresh start. I'm pretty sure if they offered a really diverse toolset with much better graphics and physics not too many would be sorry to leave their old levels behind or recreate them on the new console.

Here's hoping the inevitable LBP3 is PS4.
PS3 had it's run, I can't imagine an LBP3 looking or doing much different than what's already been accomplished on PS3.

I also don't know how to feel about Media Molecule not working on it if this is true. Sumo did a good job on the Sonic & SEGA Racing titles but the scope of LBP is much more, especially if it's the next numbered title and not a spinoff.

As long as they don't waste yet another conference on this crap IP. It seems to infect its way into each conference Sony does in some way.

Please make the platforming actually bearable please. It's impossible for my to enjoy a LittleBigPlanet game with how garbage the physics are for actually playing the game.

The first one wasn't that good but the second one was wicked. I played the whole game co-op with a buddy and it was a blast.

Don't worry, with the sales of LittleBigPlanet 2 and Vita not even coming close to the sales of their predecessors, I see the LittleBigPlanet series being put to rest for a long time if the next one tanks even harder.

I really do not like this franchise.

physics and overtly kawaii visuals is the main reason. I wish sony would drop it

Sony makes lots of stupid mistakes and has a lot of poorly thought out ideas but I don't think they should drop LBP. They should be focussing on core IPs and building them up, not dropping them. It's a solid seller, a really unique and imaginative world which most importantly gives creation tools to the player and there's a loyal community who have built some extraordinary levels. They just need to fix the physics which turn people off, make the controls tighter.

Man, I liked LBP but it really doesn't feel like time for another one yet.

This. I've just recently enjoyed the Vita one. That said, if I didn't have a Vita, maybe I'd feel ready for another.

Also, Sumo is decidedly an odd choice. They make some excellent racing titles - I'd say they're one of the best out there for arcadey racers - but I have absolutely no frame of reference as to their skills in other fields.

First time hearing anything about "death threats" or "hacking" in LBP. Didn't know it was such a cut-throat world.

I hope this ain't gonna throw a monkey wrench into ASRT DLC plans like how the DLC for the first ASR coincidentally died out at the same time Sumo started development on the Doctor Who Adventure Games.

Hey, another thread full of people that want LittleBigPlanet to be a completely unrelated game, instead of just ignoring it.

Bleh, I'd rather have Sumo Digital work on a new Virtua Tennis or Outrun but I guess it's better than some of the other turds they had to work on in the past. Damn you SEGA.

They should have handed LBP Karting to Sumo in the first place, not one of their platforming games. And this game should be either on the PS4 or the Vita.

I hope they change the formula this time around. LBP2 showed that there isn't that much attachment left in the series and I really don't want this to just become a "one trick pony".

Super-weird that they didn't just get the studio(s) behind LittleBigPlanet Vita. I'm assuming this is next-gen. Imagine a LBP where all the fabric reacts totally realistically; i.e. can burn, rips and tears, and creases and folds.

I feel like they've done pretty much all they can with the LBP idea, short of porting it to PC and opening it up further (but then you may as well just learn how to develop real games).

Couldn't this be said for a threat on any gaming franchise? Off the top of my head I can think of Zelda to be a huge victim to this.

And I have yet to play a LBP title >. <

Pick up LBP2 if you have PS3 or LBP Vita if you have a Vita and try it out if you're interested, honestly. They're fun platformers, but the real fun comes in if you're creative or you like playing levels with 1-3 extra friends, then it's pretty hectic/addicting. It's also free on PS+.

LittleBigPlanet is one tweak (jumping) and a little polish around the edges of the physics engine away from being able to be argued as the best platformer out there.

Lolwut? LBP2 was outselling LBP in the same time frame. And LBP was twice best seller on Vita PSN, and very high position in other months. It was also second ranking on the EU PSN for 2 months.

Was kinda hoping for LittleBigUniverse as a PS4 title instead, set in a 3D environment that still allows the player to control Sackboy and construct his/her own levels out of the materials and items given. As much as I love LBP, it just feel like it needs to evolve now, for fear of becoming stagnant.

The first one wasn't that good but the second one was wicked. I played the whole game co-op with a buddy and it was a blast.

I generally loathe co-op play in games and prefer to go along at my own pace and on my own terms, but playing through the single player campaign with 3 others in a LBP game is some of the most fun I've had this gen. Especially the second one, with all the grappling hook madness that ensued.

LBP seems pretty standardised at this point. Playing LBP vita and its great.

I am for freeing Mm up to continue doing whatever secret PS4 project they have been hinting at.

Just make sure Mm keep overseeing the soundtrack.

Would be more satisfied if Mm worked on a 3D platformer based LBP3 for PS4. But I guess it's nice to see them moving on to something different, even if their charm is what made LBP shine.

Who in their right mind would argue that... LBP is an excellent creation tool, without a doubt the most accessible and versatile tool on consoles period. It's also a hilarious 4-player game, especially when you're stoned. But as a platformer it falls flat on its face and gets trampled over by every single Mario platformer out there, it's not even a contest. Fixing the jumping won't fix that.

I'm kind of crazy but I platinumed LittleBigPlanet 1 on launch day. I never had trouble with its jumping. I even cleared The Bunker level before they discovered that cheap/silly exploit that gets you past the wheel of death. It made sense to me since the world functioned off real-world physics, with momentum and friction and such. To me, it was responsive, because I could predict where Sackboy would land based on the world around him because it worked very realistically. Beyond that, I could control his direction and landing while in mid-air.

Meanwhile, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2's jumping physics, which obviously goes for its own sort of style, annoyed the shit out of me because of the fact that you can't control Mario's turning direction in mid-air (which ironically, I guess is kind of realistic, but doesn't work well for a platformer in my opinion), and you can hardly control the placement of his landing once you've pressed the jump button (also ironic, because it's realistic, but I don't think it works well). It made jumping more haphazard for me than it needed to be. Although I will say the running/turning/ground movement of Mario was splendid.

My two cents, consider me "out of my right mind".
