Kingdom Hearts Community Thread: Now everybody can be a Keyblade Wielder!

The reason why I wouldn't be too surprised to see a Star Wars world is that there are actually many things making it a obvious choise. Biggest one is that Nomura himself is a Star Wars fan. IIRC he personally was pushing for Hamill (and Nimoy) in BBS and that game felt like a love letter to Star Wars in many ways. Secondly we have heard that Disney is going to license Star Wars in video games fairly easily if they are to be believed so there certainly is no problem getting it in their own biggest videogame. Thirdly it works as a marketing tool with the new movies starting to come out. And lastly and most importantly it works in reverse too. Star Wars world in KH would be a big name to have and it just fits the franchise.

I would be more surprised if we don't see Star Wars world sooner or later, especially with them pushing stuff like POTC and Tron.

Star Wars world keyblade needs to have Millenium Falcon keychain :lol.

It would be awesome to ride the Keyblade Ships they used in BBS in a Star Wars world.
They're probably going to use the god damn Gummi Ship tho.

If you never spent time customizing the gummi ship i could see how you could dislike it, but its quite an amazing system with a boatload of depth. It very much enjoy the gummi ships.

KH2 Final Mix adds:
I forgot how much 2 Final Mix added, made the game so much more challenging and fun in comparison to vanilla KH2. (imo)

I can't wait to replay it again next year, It's been awhile since I last did a playthrough.
Back cover is kind of basic.
It's simple and clean, I like it.
Also I'm glad it's confirmed to 1080i/p compatible, that might not be the native resoultion for it but it's still great that I can expirence it looking at its best on my monitor/TV.

Yeah, agreed. I never really had the creativity to put into making gummi ships so I just stuck with the default ones, but when my friend played Kingdom Hearts 2 at my house and messed around with Gummi Ships more than he did the main game I was impressed at how much depth and content was put into the mode.

Yeah. My favourite addition by far is the post game bosses. Even when most of them are rehashes the jump from 1 post game boss in vanilla to 15 in FM is quite the jump. There are a lot of smaller changes too that usually are not noticable so easily. I think one of them was fixing the pattern in Wisdom Form sleeves to the flames that are used in artwork. Vanilla had same pattern in Wisdom and Master forms. Little things like this just make vanilla seem like it was a bit rushed.

I am looking foreward to 1.5 so much. While BBS and KH2 FM did get english fan translations I really wanted to play the original one too. Apparently the guy who did KH2FM translation said that KH1FM was hard to patch into english for some reason. I like how they added new finishing moves that you gain early in the game depending on the weapon you choose at the beginning. As a Staff diehard it is cool to get something unique for the normal combos too since magic can get you only so far.

With the talk about Gummis I agree that I enjoyed em tho KH1 ones have aged pretty badly. I put time into making my own ships and it was pretty fun even tho the looks of my ships were ridicilous :lol. Is anyone here well versed with KH1FM? Cause it apparently adds ''Gummi ship missions'' but I have no idea what that means.

Edit: Just found out they are optional goals on gummi routes. I hope they have a trophy attached to piss off gummi haters mwahahaha.

Yeah I noticed that there was a lot of subtle differences to it even in the models. It seemed to have set standard for the series where they update the models in later releases for the games or do subtle touchups like how Birth By Sleep touched up Sora Riku and Kairis faces in the models and how 1.5 HD is bringing their old faces up to KH2's model standards, just small things they couldn't/didn't have the time to do originally.

The bosses were my favorite addition to 2 Final Mix aswell, you really had to pay attention to their patterns and be careful with how long you string your combos for them or it could cost you your life, Terra in particular is still the most hardest and enjoyable boss in the series for me because of that. The only thing I did hate about them was Xemnas final form and his move where he spams a bunch of Ethereal Blades, on critical in the Cavern of Remembrance version of his boss battle was not easy, almost broke my controller from button mashing so much.

And ditto! Especially seeing as how Kingdom Hearts is still my favorite game and favorite in the series, it's going to be great to re-experience it in HD again looking its best and been more refined to allow for some of its flaws to be helped/fixed without changing how it plays much along with other misc additions. That and can I finally get to enjoy the game at 60hz, (30 fps and no borders while playing) it's going to be great! :D
I hope they have a trophy attached to piss off gummi haters mwahahaha.
I bet you they will just to troll us :p
I might like the gummi segments in KH1 a bit more now that they've got optional missions attached to them and it's been expanded a bit though.

So.....what are you guys' favorite bosses?

In no order:

Kurt Zisa (KH)
Riku II (KH)
Larxene II (CoM)
Xaldin (KHII)
Vanitas on Neverland (BbS)

Didn't really care for any of DDD's bosses....Rinzler maybe?

I like that list

Generally speaking, the bosses that actually provide a fun challenge, or in other words, the bosses I actually have to put together a (perhaps slight) strategy for or perhaps try a couple of times become more memorable.

Aqua vs Vanitas is probably my favorite overall.

In no order:

Wheel Master (BBS) (I think this one of the most fun basic boss fights. Just straight foreward and fun)
Riku 2 (KH)
Xaldin (KH2)
Terranort (BBS)
Xigbar (KH2)
Roxas (KH2FM)

I didn't like Vanitas that much because I played on Critical mode from the beginning and that bossfight is terribly unbalanced without grinding. He takes almost no damage from anything.

I probably forgot some lol. I like most bosses in KH.

Worst bosses:
Spellican (DDD) (I don't know if the troll music makes it better or even worse)
That armor thingy you fight 3 times (BBS)
Neverland bird boss (Days)

Then you're not counting Sonic Rave spam on Larxene, right? Or is she actually hard on GBA?

For me, the most fun battles were, in no particular order:
Unknown Man (KH1)
Riku II (KH1)
Roxas (KH2)
Larxene (KH2)
Cruella Xemnas Data (KH2)
Terra (KH2)
Sephiroth (KH2)

I really need to play BBS and 3D more times, I'm not used to the games enough to include their bosses.

I don't recall any other bosses being hard on GBA than Vexen 2 and Ansem.

Actually I recall Lexaeus being giga easy and that is pretty funny considering the other Org members thinkin of him as the strong one. And Vexen prolly should be one of the weaker ones.

Yeah that's definitely the easiest one on my list but last I played I used mostly magic and that fight was awesome.

In no particular order:

Unknown/Xemnas (KH1FM)

Pretty damn well designed optional boss fight. I like that despite being a big optional superboss, he has an elemental weakness (Gravity) just like a lot of other bosses in the game. And on a somewhat superficial level, the entire fight is just a joy to watch in motion. There's a ton of bright lights and laser effects everywhere, and while it's unmistakably a KH boss fight, it's unlike any other boss in the game. I've always liked the idea of sticking a planned character for a future game as an optional boss in a preceding game, and it was pulled off really well here.

Roxas (KH2FM)

Funny how a previously cutscene-only fight ends up arguably being the most difficult mandatory boss in the game. For people playing KH2FM for the first time, it'll probably be their first taste of most of the additional content in the game, as you'll get absolutely wrecked if you approach it like you would any other boss in vanilla KH2 that isn't Sephiroth. There's a far bigger emphasis on blocking and countering, and it's especially tense since you don't have Donald and Goofy to bail you out of any trouble. I think I actually used Limit Form (The only form you get here) as an emergency heal more than I did for doing any sort of damage.

Lingering Sentinment/Terra (KH2FM)

As far as bosses in the series go, I have a hard time believing that they'll ever top this. It's one of the few optional bosses in anything, where I've felt that it was an actual test of my skill, instead of finding some overpowered weapon of cheap exploit to make things easier. You could be at Level 99 with all stats capped, with the best equips for Sora, Donald and Goofy, and it won't help you at all. Not until you actually observe and study how he attacks. Fighting this guy was a learning experience for me. I had beaten all of the Data XIII members at least once, had my stats maxed, and thought I was hot shit, so I went to take him on... and proceeded to get stuck on him for about a month. But now I know his attack properties and patterns so intricately that I can beat him without even trying at all. I can't wait for the inevitable HD re-release just so the people that hold bosses like Sephiroth on a pedestal can see just how deeper the rabbit hole can go, as far as optional bosses in the series are concerned.

Riku/Ansem (KH1)

Best boss in vanilla KH1, in my opinion. I love it because it's a prime example of how a good defense really can end up being the best offense. Aside from Dark Aura, a lot of his most damaging attacks can easily be teched and followed up with a counter attack, or even a limit. And then of course, there's KH1's lack of a scene skip option, making players hear "THERE'S NO WAY YOU'RE TAKING KAIRI'S HEART" Ad Nauseam until you actually manage to beat the guy.

Terranort (BBS)

I recall watching a japanese player stream this particular boss fight around the time the game came out in Japan. He spent a good 20-25 minutes trying to attack him head on until he realized that blocking and using Counter Stomp was a way more viable tactic. Then he got stuck on the meteor portion of the boss fight for another 15 minutes right after. I feel like that'll pretty much sum up a lot of people's experience with that boss.

Not Top 5 material, but still great:

Armor of the Master (BBSFM)

For an optional boss designed specifically with multiplayer in mind, this is actually a pretty enjoyable and feasible fight in single player. It's nowhere as cheap and luck based as Mysterious Figure/
Young Xehanort
, you won't be hammering on the square button just to survive, and the best part about it is that his desperation attack will actually change depending on what character you're fighting him with. Definitely a step of from BBS' other nonsense optional bosses.

As far as DDD goes, the only fight I can say I really liked was Hockomonkey, at least with Sora. It seems like the only boss in the game that was designed with making full use of Flowmotion in mind, whereas it feels like a crutch or a hindrance in every other boss fight. The only thing that kills it for me is the camera occasionally freaking out.

I still have no idea what to do with the meteor portion. I just ended up using Shotlock just before things got too insane to invincible tank the damage. I'm sure it worked after try #58 or so.

I guess my favorite boss fights are:
Sora vs Riku in KH 1
Roxas vs Riku in KH Days
Roxas vs Axel (FInal) KH 2
Aqua vs Vanitas (Keyblade Graveyard) KH BBS

I hope they improve some of the character textures for KH2 and BBS HD. There are some pretty bad ones that jump out in HD:
MrAxK.jpg

And then there is Ventus. Even on PSP screen the ''X'' on his backside looks teeeerrible on closeup and they show a terrible shot on it at the end of every campaing.

Come on, we all know nothing can top fighting Mysterious Figure in BBS.
words fail to express how cheap that fight is

In all seriousness though, out of all the secret bosses I'd say
Julius is my favorite. I just love when they put Disney enemies for you to fight.

Too lazy to import :p
What's so special about them, anyway.

Maaaaan. If you like KH2 you are in for a treat when KH2FM likely releases here when the next HD collection comes (If you buy it that is).

KH2 Final Mix adds:

-Roxas boss fight at the beginning of The World That Never Was.
-Chain of Memories Organization members (Zexion, Larxene, Marluxia, Vexen, Lexaeus) as optional boss battles throughout the story.
-Optional super versions of all 13 Organization member fights as late game bosses.
-Lingering Will (Terras Armor) as optional late game boss.
-New Drive Form
-Max Drive level increased
-Many new abilities (including Exp 0 for ultimate KH challenge :3)
-New weapons
-Many new accessories
-New difficulty setting
-Christmas outfit for Sora, Donald and Goofy in Christmas Town <3
-New cutscenes
-New sidequest with collectible Crown Puzzle Pieces
-New sidequest with new Mushroom Heartless
-New late game dungeon
-Theater mode
-Recoloured heartless
-Some new music tracks

I probably forgot something :lol You can even get different crowns for Sora like in my avatar by doing the late game stuff.
To list a few reasons :3.

In particular what you would like is the cutscene with sora VS roxas in vanilla is actually a playable boss fight in FM and is amazing. One of the best in the game. Resulting in one of the coolest keyblades as well.

Vanilla KH1 and 2 especially are like half a game compared to the FM versions haha

My favorite bosses are
Terra (KH2FM) - I felt as though the strategy required in beating Terra and paying attention to his pattern made him the funnest and hardest secret boss of the series that wasn't cheap (looking at you MF), it took me a long while to beat him but I had a blast the whole way through, a great way to finish off KH2 FM for me.

Chernabog (KH1) - I loved everything about this battle. Coming to the end of the world and then after progressing futher and futher you arrive to out of nowhere have Cherabog appear and Kingdom Hearts great version of Night on a Bald Mountain play, the amazing sense of scale felt in that battle and fanservice to Disney fans who had seen Fantasia, it just being pitchblack with Sora, Donald, Goofy and Chernabog (stuck in your way out of there with only one option to get there), just everything about it felt perfect to me, I really can't wait expirence it again in HD.

Terranort (BBS, Terras story) - I remember watching this on a livestream of the Japanese version of vanila BBS when everybody was anxcious to find out what happened to Terra, Aqua and Ven at the end of the battle at Keyblade Graveyard in the Birth by sleep video everyone got a glimpse of a couple of years prior, alot of people saw it coming but it was still great to watch when it was revealed, it's always good fun watching KH livestreams with other fans on release and major reveals.

I enjoyed that Terranort required you to play more defensively for a change and made you take a different approach than most bosses, the meteor attack was a bit weird though in how you had to try and avoid it with no clear answer as to how to, it seemed to be shot lock him, but it was hard to get a lock on him for too long, regardless still a great battle.

Xemnas (KH2, final battles with him when there's no turning back) - Despite being easy (minus the data battle version) that whole battle was a great way to finish off the game, I come back to the game every now and then to play it again.

There's more I liked a lot but those are always the ones that come to mind when I think of my favorite boss battles from the series.

Wait... then it is very likely that if 2.5 comes, we'll get the final mix of that too.

imsohappyrightnow
It's prettymuch a given after the Western versions of 1.5 HD having Final Mix content :D
I hope they improve some of the character textures for KH2 and BBS HD. There are some pretty bad ones that jump out in HD:
From memory 1.5 also showed some touchups on textures from earlier trailers/the original release (like Soras gloves) to make them look better in the transition to HD, so I think they'll sort most of it out when they do HD remasters of them both.
Man, i hope E3 gives us something to talk about.
I can't see us getting much more than a trailer of 1.5 HD and a clear release date/month :(
Square-Enix will probably wait until TGS or close to it to announce 2.5 HD.

Question time: did anyone use the Chicken Little summon like more than one friggin time right after you get it?

KH1 wasn't perfect by all means but KH2 had shitty summons. Only ones that have any use are Genie for damage and Peter Pan for auto-life. And even then you'd rather use drive forms than Genie cause he needs to be leveled up to last for more than 5 seconds.

I only ever used summons to level them up so that I could open the last Coliseum Cup. They're pretty useless, even in Final Mix.

Just makes me wonder who designed them. They are so obviously underpowered, only 4 summons compared to 6 from KH1. Also what fuckin lazy ass picks are those for summons? I know Chicken Little was picked for marketing purposes but nobody cares about him, Genie is kinda cool but reused from KH1, Peter Pan is kinda rehashed too and I doubt nobody really wanted him. Only really good pick in my opinion is Stitch and he is useless :(.

I mean there are soooooooo many good picks from Disney to use as summons. I hope KH3 they balance them correctly and make more interesting picks. KH1 had good ones. Summons are perfect for great Disney cameos without having full worlds.

It's a shame that the Woody and Buzz summons got dropped from KH2FM. I would have probably used them a few times even if they weren't all that great functionally.
