Lucy Bradshaw - You don't want to play SimCity offline!

"You can't play SimCity offline." ->

"You don't want to play SimCity offline." ->

"We don't want you to play SimCity offline."

Just say that last one already. We all know it's what you mean.

listen to the mad man
"I want to play it offline! I'd like it offline"

"No you don't, you want to play it online. Other people want to play it online too!"

"Okay, but... I want to play it offline!"

"No you don't"

... what a weird way to phrase it. I mean, I get their point. Their point is decent enough. But it's really weird to phrase it by correcting people.

Shes kinda right. The game sucks as a single player experience due to the way it is designed. But I would love to play a new proper single player SimCity.

I hate to disturb you when you’re playing SimCity

Oh no she didn't

Can you have it so that you play by yourself? And take up the neighbouring cities so someone else's pollution isn't killing your population? (Genuine question).

Most of her bullet points aren't anything more than "for online features we need online!" Which, hurray, but I don't understand who she's convincing here. The droves of people who didn't realize they needed to be online for leaderboards or to get updated versions of their friends' cities? SimCity doesn't really do anything revolutionary with online, and her argument doesn't change that.

The game we launched is only the beginning for us – it’s not final and it never will be. In many ways, we built an MMO.

Can I please have that one gif that shows multiple fuck you.

Thanks.

Welcome to game industry where publisher knows you better than yourself. And investors suck it.
They're gathering oodles and oodles of data on our behavior, our playing of and paying for video game products. In the end, they will know us, and then we won't be worth knowing anymore.

To be totally honest some aspects of the game are totally broken beyond repair if you don't play it online.

Don't expect to have a successful Gambling City playing by yourself alone or a Tourism City. If it is just you and no one else in the region you are fucked unless you build up a city in every spot.
Um, no. The tourists I get from my train station or elsewhere are mythical creatures who do not reside in a player controlled city. I have a gambling city in a private region with no other cities built and it is very successful tourism wise. They are just 'From Region' instead of 'From City Name'. You don't need other cities for tourists to visit.

I think their reasoning for always-online DRM is pretty bullshit. If I wanted to open up my city to others, why can't I just sign into the server or approve that sort of multiplayer environment through my settings?

I should be able to play offline and close my city off from everyone else if I want to. I don't see why you can't just open up the menu and sign into EA's service when you actually want to take your experience online.

It's not about what you want. It's about Maxis's vision.

And EA's to sell you countless DLC add-ons that an offline SimCity would get through community mods.

They could have kept the region play in without requiring constant online connection. Damn, even the Tutorial is connected and you can drop your progress if you loose connection.

Also, just increase the damn size of the plots. That would go some way towards appeasing some fans.

She actually started the statement with "I hate to disturb you when you’re playing SimCity"? Talk about failing to read the crowd...

lol vision.

charging 60beans for a obvious facebook upgrade beta.

guess at the end of the day it dont matter. god knows how many origin installs they got from this so in EA's eyes its gnna be a win regardless

You know... I can't even imagine if my heart could handle RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 finally being anounced.... and this shit happening.

SimCity fans have my sympathy.

Dizzy, Im so dizzy my head is spinning
Like a whirlpool it never ends
And it's You girl makin it spin
You're making me dizzy
First time that I saw You girl, I knew that I just had to make You mine
But it's so hard to talk to You with fellows hangin round You all the time
I want You for my sweet pet, but You keep playing hard to get
Im going round in circles all the time
Dizzy, Im so dizzy my head is spinning
Like a whirlpool it never ends
And it's You girl makin it spin
You're making me dizzy
I finally got to talk to You and I told You just exactly how I felt
Then I held You close to me and kissed You and my heart began to melt
Girl You've got control on me,cuz Im so dizzy I can't see
I need to call a doctor for some help

Yeah, I bet thousands of people are just loving the hell out of that always-online DRM.

EA must not think very high of their customers.

I wish they would have renamed the game since they abandoned the core tenets of the series from the fans point of view.

This game isn't inherently offensive to me as it is just something I wouldn't buy, but the SimCity part of it really bugs me.

Love this.

I can understand how they want cities to interact with each other. It maked sense that the game needs to be online to achieve this.

But why not... I don't know, let me make those other cities and regions myself? In a city building game?

I really regret buying the game. I knew about the always online and the sharing between regions but I didn't realize how extensive you have to rely on other regions. I had heard you can play it by yourself and that's all I really cared about so I didn't research it any further. That's all on me though. I'll be more careful next time.
