So, any clue as to why he was fired? I guess their stock price falling a lot in the past few years didn't help Riccitiello.

Which is good given Larry Probst ran 2004-2006 era EA.

I can imagine that the last thing Larry Probst wants to do at this stage of his life is step into a CEO role.

That's what makes all of this so stunning. What happened that was a so bad they couldn't even do the normal "stay til the end of the year while we do our search" thing that is generally the norm for major public companies? TWO WEEKS? WTF?

You give Riccitiello too much credit. He's probably the single person most responsible for most of the shitty things that have happened to this industry in the last 6-7 years. That's including from a creative point of view too since everything EA releases is geared towards the casual/social gamer or the stereotypical dudebro we love to make fun of so much. Safe, homogeneous, mass market AAA shooters/racers/sports games.

You can say the same of Kotick though. Activision, Ubisoft, and EA are all following the same model.

Let me see:
-Henry Hatsworth
-Brutal Legend
-Mirror's Edge
-Boom Blox
-Boom Blox 2
-Skate
-NFS Shift

There was a good two year stretch where EA was doing some great stuff. Too bad shareholders revolted.

-Dead Space

Guess EA shareholders are those that need to be punch in the face.

The "unprecedented partnership" with Nintendo, the absence at the PS4 conference, now JR going... looks like a big bad mess. Or coincidence?

End of year statements coming soon, i suspect they are worse than many shareholders are expecting. Plus EA's image is shocking right now

Focused on game quality, thought that higher metacritic ratings would lead to higher profits.

I think a lot of us are going to like the new EA even less than the old one.

New EA will likely be F2P with a few AAA tentpole Paymium games throughout the year.

Kotick's only crime is whoring their few franchises out. I'm not sure how things stand now but there was a time at least up until very recently where their games were one of the only ones that didn't have ridiculous preorder deals, DRM, or online passes.

I don't know if I'd really call it a prediction. He said Riccitello told him himself that he thought he was going to get the axe due to their stock falling.

Yeah but it has come up on Patch Attack recently too. And to put it mildly, he seemed very concerned about Ricetello's future.

Metroidvania

People called Romanes they go the house?
Welp, I'm guessing the financial drop-off of SW:TOR, and the huge negative publicity around ME3 and Simcity, with qualifiers such as Dead Space 3, Crysis 3, etc...

But this still leaves me worried for the future until we get a solid read on whoever (re?)takes the position next.

It's true. It's just Activision doesn't seem to make many games that GAFers care much about, so a lot of it goes under the radar.

This is very true. Also Kotick has done well to stay out of the limelight recently. I think it's been quite some time since he said anything really, really stupid. He just doesn't say much at all, anymore, on purpose.

I am actually sort of surprised there was no fallout from that Consumerist poll.

Regardless of whether or not you think it was the result of a bunch of whiny internet neckbeards that didn't like Mass Effect 3's ending, the headlines "EA Voted Worst Company in America" for any reasons had to have been making people really nervous.

Might have just been one more straw on the camel's back, though.
