CDP's strategy report for 2013-2016

http://en.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?/topic/34570-cdps-strategy-report-for-2013-2016/

Some interesting stuff there. Highlights from the CDPR section:

2013

- open REDkit beta and further support of the modding community

- premiere of the first non-computer game set in the Witcher world

- launch of a local branch of CD Projekt RED in the United States, focused on marketing and PR for both Americas, especially the US.

2014-2016

- launch of The Witcher 3 for at least three strong platforms including PC and PS4

- launch of Cyberpunk 2077

- two smaller (about 20 hours of gameplay) but top-quality games supporting one of the product lines

- a cross-platform mobile game based on one of CDPR's brands

- start of license sales for REDengine

- long-term Witcher 3 support involving completely new mechanisms

- launch of the full version of the REDkit and further modding community support

- launch of further local CDPR branches in key territories

CDProjekt RED is such an interesting and exciting development studio. They burst onto the scene, yes, with significant backing, but are already considered top tier developers by their second game.

They seem to be growing and an impressive rate, and seem to be very ambitious.

Split bump.

Why would you ever put this in an ancient thread?

I mean seriously!
Because I wouldn't exactly consider this thread-worthy by itself and because I wouldn't label a three-weeks-old thread as §"ancient", but, hey, you are the mod after all. Do as you like.
No complaints here.

Are these supposed to be expansion packs or spin-offs?

I don't trust promises of expansion packs anymore. I still remember them promising at least 1 (I seem to remember 2 though) expansion for Witcher 2 that never came.

And no I don't count that enhanced edition patch as an expansion.

I think the thing that makes me wonder the most about the two new titles is that they imply they're from the same product line, which is a lot of output in that time period given that The Witcher 3 releases in 2014, and this roadmap ends in 2016.

There has never been an expansion for Witcher 2 announced though. All I remember about expansions is CDPR saying if they ever did charge for DLC it would be for something the size of an expac.

It was never announced but I remember them promising one before TW2 came out.

I devoured anything I could find on Witcher 2 in the months leading to release. I don't remember any mention of an expansion coming. I could be wrong but I really don't think one was ever promised.

What does this mean?

A PnP game?

RE: 2013 game:

Q: Having worked on existing IP and bringing them to games, have you been tempted to do the reverse and create in other media?

Adam Badowski: We are not ready for that sort of development yet. We want to use the whole universe of the Witcher world and do the same with Cyberpunk, but we want to find companies to help us. We want to create comics, board games, stuff like that but I don't think we can handle this on site. If we want to extend our scope we need to find talented companies with better expertise in those particular areas. We're not going to get any bigger than 200 people, we're going to focus on games.

I'll buy all of those games. I'll always support CDPR if they continue like this. Lord knows this is the ONLY studio in the entire world that has no-drm, free DLC (all of it), top-quality games, amazing support, and so forth.

Possible The Witcher PnP games? Day 1.

I'd be excited for anything new from them if they keep up the quality. :D

Other than the next xbox, what could any other platforms be? Mac/Linux maybe? iOS and Android don't seem like they could support something as vast as the witcher 3. I know its almost definitely not related but didn't the Assassin's Creed announcement refer to the PS4 and "other next generation consoles" or something along those line?

Does this mean GOG is bigger than Origin? :)

Nope, they don't count Origin as independent:

GamesIndustry said:
Q: GoG has obviously been a tremendous asset, and sets out a stance on DRM which has proven extremely popular with fans. Where do you see the platform evolving to next?

Adam Badowski: GoG is the second biggest independent digital platform after Steam. Of course, the gap is great, but we are second. Origin is bigger too, because it sells games exclusively, but for independent platforms, we're the second biggest. Of course GoG started with older games but has moved to newer games more recently - you can expect that strategy to continue.
