Microsoft Studios' creative director has some choice words about always-online

I'm an expert

Formerly worldrevolution. The only reason I am nice to anyone else is to avoid being banned.
OP, include these earlier tweets, too:

On one hand.. why would anyone live there.. on the other hand.. you're not supposed to say that out loud.

What are the benefits of online required ? I mean, is it that unreasonable to expect to be able play a game if, through no fault of your own, the Internet connection goes down ? What the fuck are they thinking

So what if your area does not have a viable internet solution yet, or are stuck with Dial-up currently, are these people supposed to pack up their shit and move so they can own an xbox?

Considering that to my knowledge the US is still abit behind the curve when it comes to internet/broadband nationwide this is just looks like Microsoft getting way to arrogant for its own good.

Im still holding out on an offical unveiling, but it looks more and more like I will not be bother with the next box. I do wonder how much Microsoft could grt away with not telling people before they sell them though.

thank goodness twitter has allowed our species to reach the point where luxury electronic toys with plenty of alternatives are the equivalent of cleanliness and basic communication

You have to wonder about people's twitter accounts. Is he representing Microsoft right now? The studio? Just himself? These side communications are terrible.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Welp, Microsoft is done.

Hah. It's kinda funny watching MS crash and burn in terms of hype and support for me. I was a BIG X-box supporter and loved X-box Live despite the charge as a forward thinking service with some good ideas copied from Sega.net back in the day. 360 happens, I'm apathetic and they don't really move X-box Live forward. Now? Complete disapproval.

Just himself, I'd wager. But given how nonchalant he about the entire thing it's pretty telling what MS is planning to do.

While I still hope it isn't true this whole thing will be an interesting litmus test for press outlets and their alleged consumer focus. At least we'd get a solid week of comedy out of aegies twitter.

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
It's gonna happen eventually anyway. I'm always online when I play and I haven't had my Internet go out in over 3 years.

We'll see about that. "It works for me so why does anyone else have an issue with this" is a poor stance to take.

LOL. We haven't even really started this whole thing yet and we're getting bitterly defensive tears. Announce this fucking system already so we can do this for real.

The sad part is for someone in his position to address the situation like THAT probably means there's little chance for professional discourse about it. It's not like this doesn't affect devs, too.

I can't wait for companies to start cracking down on Twitter usage. This is getting ridiculous.
It is. If this guy had gone to a TV/Newspaper reporter and said this stuff Microsoft would have already fired him by now. They forget Twitter is public I think. It's no different than talking to the media without your employers permission.

Wow i love this guy!

He is right....

Really if they have some cool reason for always on then im all for it.

Now if its just for DRM, its a very stupid move.

I wasn't planning on buying the new Xbox at launch, but I was still really hoping this wouldn't happen. I might just stick with PS4/WiiU next gen.

Metroidvania

People called Romanes they go the house?
Welpthat'sthat.gif.

Core's gonna hop over, but MS is chasing the 'entertainment center' money, as has been made pretty clear with the future they've outlined for Durango. And I'm pretty sure the a lot of the mainstream public won't care....until the first major Xbox Live outage/unexpectedly long downtime.

Then the shitstorm will really kick in, and MS will either have to save face by doing what EA/Maxis would not or try and tide it over.

Such a bang-up job. Truly admirable how forward the message is. So much honesty. Great analogy.

I'm gonna give him my money.
By "him," I mean the guy in back alley who is going to take a shit on Adam's car every few days for the next six weeks.

I always have an Internet connection.

As long as the game itself isn't connecting to a server, but rather a handshake takes place at launch (so, not Sim City) I couldn't care less.

If there's a vacuum cleaner that works even when the electricity goes out, I'd buy that vacuum cleaner instead.

So I guess I'm gonna buy a PS4.

So Microsoft is officially the Sony of this gen? Shitty business decisions and the arrogance to tell us that we should enjoy it.

I can't wait for the inevitable "In hindsight, always online was a bad idea. But who knew? Hindsight is 20/20 I guess!"
