Microsoft Studios' creative director has some choice words about always-online

artist... Thinking back about our past comments on specs none of that really matters now.

I mean MS could put a Titan GPU in there and I still wouldn't buy it on principle.

They better have some godly PR to counter this.

it's time to unleash titan PR whomever he or she is will have to have decades knowledge of how internet reaction works - this is the moment they've been waiting for!

Bahaha it's made it to CNET it's a matter of time before it's reported in my local newspaper lol.

This story has traction like snow tires with barbed chains on them. It's not going away.

Knowing Adam, he was probably fucking around with M. But I've not spoken with him- he MAY believe that, he may have just been kidding. I honestly have zero idea about that part. But I honestly hope he doesn't get fired for it. I know so many of you guys who are opposed to 'online only' don't care (and that is certainly your right) but this is a real human we are talking about with a family and trust me when I say that he's one of the good ones. You may disagree with him about this issue (assuming he really meant what he wrote- and yes, that was his responsibility to be aware of how stuff reads on Twitter and how hungry folks are for news about next-gen, especially from someone with his job title) but I assure you guys: if you knew the guy, you'd be feeling really bad for him right now and really all works out great for him.

Not asking you to change your mind or anything- just giving my perspective on it.

Thanks for reading-

David

I'm not going to feel sorry for this guy for saying what he says to the public while openly representing himself as an employee at one of the largest corporations in the world. Feeling bad for someone who fucks up THIS BAD is akin to rewarding idiocy via sympathy and complacency.

I'm not perfect, I make mistakes, but I'm not gonna get reported in the news, which can NEVER be taken away, or drag my employer down with me.

The moment a person abandons common sense, they crawl into that grave they dug for themselves, otherwise they shouldn't have picked up the shovel, regardless of how good of a person they are or what sort of family they have made.

Um...XBox Live was down for like TWO FUCKING WEEKS (in late-Dec early-Jan 2007-2008, IIRC). You might not remember it, but I sure as hell do.

People were PISSED. People even sued. Can you imagine how bad it would have been if people wouldn't be able to use their Xboxes at all?

Just stop posting.
I was handling LIVE escalation support volume during that outage. It was an unequivocal nightmare.
At least people could still play their games offline during the holidays. I can't even imagine what hell it would have been if they had no ability to use their newly purchased systems at all.

To be honest, I really want this to get bigger so MS will be forced to say something about durango.

But ill feel bad if that means adam gets fired

Yep. He says it was just joking around with a friend that people took out of context.

So he went up and defended the comments about the city thing, which even the Bioware guy getting it came out and explained. I think we can toss that joke aside and look at the more alarming issue of Durango having some always-online service in mind, which I'm sure is why this thread has blossomed to what it is at an unfathomable rate.

The next few months are going to be so much fun. I can only imagine Microsoft is going to not make an official comment on this element for as long as fucking possible. I can see them going past an announcement and E3 and keeping hush about this.

Welcome to Microsoft's ARG.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

Whatever man...Jomjom's internet would be blazing fast and he would be online with the Durango the entire time brah.

64 pages? lol, no way I'm reading all that.

But the OP means I'm switching to PS4 next-gen. Microsoft, you hear that motherfuckers?

They don't care.
Hope they crash and burn :)

This is free advertising for SCE regardless of the always online rumor being true or not. It is not like there is a complete void of info regarding the Durango system while Sony stalks about PS4... There is an ample and stable supply of bad Durango press/rumors already and this MS guy posts stuff like this? Weird to say the least...

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything

So does everyone. That's why the guy was so careless to put himself out there. Made himself the sacrificial lamb. Lit on fire and gaf is stoking the flames, just hoping MS will see the smoke.

Oh Lord, it's actually coming to pass? I had a small shred of hope that Microsoft wouldn't push ahead with it, but they seemingly don't care about the negative press both Blizzard and EA Maxis received from their poorly thought out and implemented always online shenanigans.

I'll wait for official confirmation, but this is pretty much the poitn where I start to take steps to move to PC gaming and leave this wretched console market behind.

Oh, I'm sorry. Did I break your concentration? I didn't mean to do that. Please, continue. You were sayin' something about "better pay your ISP"?... What's the matter? Oh, y-you were finished? Oh, well, allow me to retort.

... what terrible analogies he chose to do.

As I previously mentioned, the time when internet comes through an equally infrastructured method as electricity, probably he will have a point (having electricity=having internet)

For now we have to deal with lots of problems, let alone carrying your console somewhere without connection.

Terrible analogies, again.

Thanks for the replies GAF. Read Jaffe's posts and I like the stance he's taking.

At the end of the day, while Orth's tweets reek of pretentiousness, it would suck for him to lose his job over them.

EDIT: Dunno if the higher-ups at Microsoft would be as forgiving given how widespread this has become

I can't wait to see how Microsoft spins a required connection as being crucial for all gaming experiences and how it's in gamers' best interests.
"Extensive number crunching going on server-side! Always-Connected infused in the console's DNA since its inception!!"

So you are saying this dude's livelihood should be destroyed over some stupid spat on Twitter? Okay. Seriously I think people in this thread need some serious perspective before they go handing off someone to the wolves.
