Microsoft Studios' creative director has some choice words about always-online

Microsoft made an official statement

"We are aware of the comments made by an employee on Twitter. This person is not a spokesperson for Microsoft, and his personal views are not reflective of those of the company. We have not made any announcements about our product roadmap, and have no further comment on this matter."

He is an employee of your company you dumb fucks, he represents you.

Yeah, so awa64's comment that this thread is full of shit posts that discount any valid discussion is suspiciously similar to Arthur's tweet that anything surrounded by shit comments is automatically disqualified.

Just sayin'.

Can't say I didn't get the same vibe.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
I received an official statement from Microsoft a few minutes ago, via their PR agency Edelman:

The statement reads as follows:

"We are aware of the comments made by an employee on Twitter. This person is not a spokesperson for Microsoft, and his personal views are not reflective of those of the company. We have not made any announcements about our product roadmap, and have no further comment on this matter."

Well, that was to be expected.

Apparently:

The first is only after 5,000 replies. The second is a godly gif that awa64 is getting too rattled about.

That gif is so awesome.

I think Gies may be the biggest consumer hating journo in the industry.

I commend him for being up front about his jackass opinions though.

[Update] We received an official statement from Microsoft, via the company's PR firm Edelman, concerning the tweets sent by Microsoft Studios' creative director Adam Orth last evening.

The statement reads as follows:

"We are aware of the comments made by an employee on Twitter. This person is not a spokesperson for Microsoft, and his personal views are not reflective of those of the company. We have not made any announcements about our product roadmap, and have no further comment on this matter."

I'm pretty sure I've never seen a more inept gaming personality at dealing with their customers than Arthur Gies. It's really weird, as gamers are their customers so he should be at least a little receptive to their thoughts. Not necessarily agreeing with them, but no need for blanket denial. It's almost like he sees his true customers as the gaming companies....and maybe that's the real issue with a site like Polygon.

Gies is just one of countless examples of the wonderfully incestuous relationship between the gaming industry. of course his audience is the companies; they're the ones paying the advertising bills and they don't give a shit about "journalism" or "integrity."

personally, I don't see the big issue with an always online console. Sounds like an idea destined for failure to me. the market will decide and, as it has with most Microsoft products over the past decade, it seems like the Xbox division is heading straight for another years of bleeding billions.

So I just caught up. And I'm kind of ignorant to whats going on with the next gen consoles, but it appears that Sony have already won the war before it even started? I don't know what Microsoft is thinking.

honestly I don't know what the furor is about. If there's enough features to warrant the always-on system then it deserves to be in there. I've used my system w/ no internet from time to time, but it's rare enough that I wouldn't count it as a dealbreaker (though obviously it will put the PS4 in a slightly more favorable light).

We've survived worse things in gaming history, such as wholesale adoption of controllers over mouse/KB for playing shooters. The upshot that time was greatly increased accessibility and convenience. Long as there's something to always-on aside from piracy protection on MS's side, this is going to be a nonissue.

Why are people actually trying to reason and argue with him? It's obvious he's not willing to listen in good faith or even attempt to have a serious discussion. Would you argue with a wall?

I KNEW Gies would be defending the always online Xbox. I wonder what he would have tweeted if this were the other way around with Sony...

Microsoft's lack of attempt at damage control is hilarious.

They must REALLY live in a fucking bubble if they think this is gonna go well for them.

Dang, looks like they aren't going to say anything. Not that I really expected them too but you'd hope with all the coverage this is receiving.

He may not be a spokesman for the company, but he represents your company and he spoke.

I imagine this will die down in a few days and we'll just have to wait for the official reveals.

SMGDH Microsoft, RROD aside, you did alot of things right this gen, and going forward look like you are contributing nothing but anger and "my way or the highway" ethos.

Interesting thanks for that

He is a employee but not a spokesperson, we knew that, but i personally know that any of the companies that i worked for would absolutely *NOT* appreciate me taking my business to Twitter or Facebook and representing my company in any way imaginable, would get fired in a instant

Not that i am hoping he gets fired, i actually don't but they need to control this better

Good job, GAF. you might have managed to save Microsoft from their own idiocy.

if they STILL go this always- online route after this? they are truly doomed.
