What exactly is the Wii U holding onto? Its sales dropped from the previous week and the Vita still outsold it.

It's a bad hardware drop all around but they're phasing out pretty even at this point. Vita's 12k drop is kinda bad news. Wii U dropping merely 8k is kind of surprising considering last week's games didn't kick off that great.

Yet Nintendo thought game and wario was perfect for Wii U.

If anything, the better strategy would be to release Game and Wario on 3DS where it belongs since its a handheld franchise, and Luigi's Mansions 2 should be on the Wii U.

3DS is their primary platform, so it makes sense for it to get the more top tier software.

I do think both games can coexist, and Luigi might have good legs after all. Not to reach the 1 million mark, of course.
Y'know, I'm not quite sure about that. I don't think it's in any way likely but I do think it's a genuine possibility over the lifetime of the hardware, and I didn't think anything like that before launch.

How did the GC one do in Japan in the end? Very different circumstances, I know, but...?

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
From the other thread, it seems Vita is suffering supply constraints.

3DS has a couple of quiet weeks before Tomodachi hits.

We'll see next week if Rolling Western/Freaky Forms chart in Famitsu, though.

Famitsu has some note of Vita "scarcity" according to google translate, although I'm not sure how much credence to give it? I guess we'll see in a week.

Also, One Piece seems to be holding surprisingly well??

Luigi going full force over 500k!

Layton finally at 200k retail *sigh*

Vita can't catch a break... hopefully it will stabilize around 15k though

New Super Mario Bros. 2 around 2 million next week

Game & Wario hopefully out of charts next week.

Didn't expect Vita to drop so much. I thought it'd be good for another 20k+ week.

Nice for KH.

Actually, in the Week13 thread there was mention that the Vita is having a supply constraint in Japan. There's links there to sources too.

Luigi is selling much better than I thought it would, it's doing 3D Land numbers (even though it won't have the legs of 3D Land).

3DS is their primary platform, so it makes sense for it to get the more top tier software.

Nintendo doesn't seem to think so otherwise Pikmin 3 would be on 3DS and out already.

Nintendo is really inconsistent with their handheld and console strategy, there seems to be very little logic behind which games appear on which systems.

Dang, home consoles look like they're pretty much dead in Japan. That said, I expected WiiU to drop harder than it did, so I guess that's something.

Luigi's Mansion is doing better than I thought as well.

An interesting week software wise, with few new releases. That shows which software has some legs.

Go Go Luigi!

Vita dropped pretty hard and the Wii U dropped less than what I expected. Though everything dropped this week.
Weird statement considering Vita dropped 39% and WiiU 35%. I'd say both are dropping.

From the other thread, it seems Vita is suffering supply constraints.

Would make sense. It has been doing a good job holding on post price drop and this week's drop is a bit too severe in comparison. I was expecting something in the mid 20ks.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
There're people saying that Japanese will stop buying Luigi because Nintendo is advertising Tomodachi. With 3DS huge installed base, I do think both games can coexist, and Luigi might have good legs after all. Not to reach the 1 million mark, of course.
That's like saying MH4 will stop selling once Pokemon X/Y are released - those are totally different games which don't substitute each other that way. AC will also keep on selling once TD is released, though their might target the same consumers.

Go Luigi kick your inferior brother ass.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
Luigi's Mansion should have been a Wii U title.

Either way, I'm happy it's doing so well. Amazing game. It's probably my favorite game of the last 5 years.

And another one passes the mark (MK7 did so last week).

No way, vita being a port machine hurt it. 3DS is a unique platform with its own games.
Vita being a port machine is what's keeping the console alive at this point and this won't change in the near future - God Eater 2, FFX HD etc. are Vita biggest upcoming titles. But yeah of course Luigi is and should be 3DS exclusive, gotta sell your system.

The intent of any price cut is to create a lasting, sustained increase in demand, not a few weeks to a month of significantly improved sales before it craters back to its current levels. And given how weak Vita's third-party support is beyond niche publishers, I assume that changing their minds was one of Sony's main goals.

As for reports of low supply; might be true, but I'm skeptical that it amounts to much given the software lineup for the next few months, and that none of the March releases are showing particularly good legs.

While holding onto her handbag!

Also, everybody commentend on this but I'm happy to see Luigi's mansion continuing to perform better than even the most optimistic expectations. The game deserves it!

I'm kinda impressed that the Vita is still at 20k. The news of supply constraints just cements that.

I'm also in the camp that thinks LM2 should've been a Wii-U game.

If it were November and not April, I'd almost say that Luigi has a chance to get to a million. :p

I see no reason to say that Luigi isn't following 3D Mario patterns.

Obviously it won't have 3D Land legs, but I don't see why it being a million seller in the fullness of time is such a daft prediction.
