GAFthread w/peeps saying piracy is ok cuz pirates wud not've bought copy anyway. What embarrassingly stupid, annoying entitled motherfuckers.

whoa hang on there david, that was only a few people arguing that used games is not the same as piracy (as in, used games aren't as detrimental). context, bro.

nobody was saying it was ok.

I don't consider the people he's attacking to truly be part of GAF. Fuck those wankers.

And I unfollowed him on twitter, what a twat. Maybe he should go back and patch the broken game he released and never fixed. He sure as hell seemed entitled to everyone's money when he begged for understanding and told people to hold on when promising to fix the problems.

I do not even necessarily agree with those people but he is misconstruing their argument that a pirated copy does not necessarily equal a lost sale.

He seems cool with used games by looking at his replies to various people. I must have missed the posts where people condoned piracy (where that was that one guy, but we know what happened to him)

Sony can't survive without 3rd parties, but can 3rd parties survive without Sony? I think some of them can. But it's pretty much a lose-lose situation imho.

MS and Sony both should make a stand in this DRM matter and then it might have an effect.
If Sony doesn't implement DRM and MS does, it will benefit Sony HW sales and 3rd party will support them and deal with it.

Because 3rd parties will get more money from a console without DRM but with great sales that from a console with WiiU level sales and top notch DRM.

Remember that at the beggining of this HD gen PS3 didn't have piracy unlike 360, and 3rd party supported 360 more because it had a higher userbase.

Consumer friendly policies like region free, free online and no DRM worked in PS3 so there is no reason to remove them next gen.

To kill 2nd hand, rented games and the possibility of to lend games kills discovery so it will hurt 3rd party sales and they will rely more on paid marketing so their games will be less profitable.

Maybe because it's not making enough money?

Maybe because it overspends on developing games, and then expects miracle sales, or in this case, dipping into 2nd sales when they have no right to do so?

Do you think Ford deserves a cut when you resell your Mustang? No? Ok then.

Going to give jaffe the benefit of the doubt, dude is (famously) passionate and seeing some of these shitposters has obviously got his goat. Just hope he knows that they are the minority here.

I couldn't help but smile and nod with everything he said before the X1 launch presser on bonus round, hes a good guy.

Pretty sure that Jaffe is specifically calling out people in the other thread talking about piracy. David has been pretty pro-used game in the past.

It's basically dropped off a cliff so you have a lot of work to do ;)

Site is totally wrong. It's still getting anywhere from 5 to 15 tweets a minute when i checked 20 mins ago.

Also re: jaffe... Weird that he would attribute that to gaf. That is far, far away from the majority opinion around here. Gaf likes some homebrew but never has been piracy friendly. Though people do think that publishers may overblow how big of a problem it is.

Alright, after being awake for almost 36 hrs time for me to hit the bed. It was amazing that at work I was able to watch this trend since the beginning. Night GAF, hopefully something good comes of this.

I've also been following this thread since the beginning. It has been great to see how much traction it has gotten.

Ah, that was because of the piracy thread.

It's kinda stupid really (EDIT: Let me word that differently: it's interesting because it's obviously an important part of gaming and I mean that because of devs who've had to cancel projects and all that, stupid in the way that there is no way that every single user will approach to the topic impartially because they have pirated and might continue to pirate games) . Also immature from him, generalizing all the forum as if everyone were 'entitled motherfuckers'.

What thread is he exactly talking about? The closest thing I found was the thread with the guy somehow comparing used games to piracy and people saying it wasn't even close.

Some people said that just because those people pirated the games, it wouldn't mean they would buy the games if they couldn't pirate them, which is true. Some people would, some wouldn't. And that's why it's not correct to count those pirated copies as copies that could have been sold.
That and saying piracy is ok are completely different things, and I didn't see anyone saying that, but maybe I just missed it. If there were comments like that, then yeah that's quite stupid. If there wasn't, then this guy might need to calm down.

For people interested.

Yoshida specifics - 4000+ tweets to him since this thing started, about 3000 using hashtag #ps4nodrm

Overall #ps4nodrm count so far - IT'S OVER 9000! (Had to do it, 9600+)

(and nearly all tweets with #ps4nodrm had #ps4usedgames there as well)

That'll be the last time I'll be posting stats, the overall count is accurate as of 10:27 pm (EDT, GMT-4)

Did my part again multiple times to numerous key people listed in the OP. Now I focus back on work and continue monitoring this thread as well. :)

We should all try to understand that these policies aren't being integrated solely to benefit the cash-haemorrhaging Activisions and EAs of the world.

So long as I'm at peace with my Mustang purchase, at the time knowing that I'll get far less when/if later reselling it, Ford can have whatever they want.

He um didn't do that? That was (maybe not obviously) targeted at the pirate talkers.

Oh bullshit. Nevermind. I thought you were being serious.

No one in their right mind would accept that. I'm certain that you would send them a check when you sold your car.

What is it with people being completely disingenuous lately?

You think Sony of all people will understand the Always Online DRM Bullshit consider the PSN was down for a month. With always online, you will not be able to play even the single player part of games.

He doesn't like the current model for used games, but he seems to be on our side for the most part.

Always online is not what they are looking into. Their used game drm is an offline RFID style system. The exact system is quite convoluted so I'm not even going to get specific with what i heard... but that's the important part.

Yeah, Sony's DRM, if it happens, is not going to be online-required. Yosp said to Game Informer that they never considered making the PS4 require an internet connection. They think the world isn't ready for that for the market they are trying to reach. Hopefully, they just won't do anything.
