but this isn't buying support, this is paying to make it seem that your competitor isn't getting support, these games are still coming out for PS4, they just don't want anyone to know, that is worse

you get it, and it is not as if MS is going to stop doing this after E3.

I don't think you could really put a price on keeping games Xbone exclusive at this point.

Publishers are going to be acutely aware of the positive press the PS4 is getting and the negative press Xbone is getting, they're not going to want to ditch that PS4 wave, the potential gains are too massive.

Do I win a prize for talking about my penis on the Internet???
I think it is more likely that at the EA booth they will only be demoing CoD or Madden on Xbones and not show a PS4 version.
Ahh yeah I could definitely see that happening. If it does...just pathetic.

Will game journalists do their jobs and ask developers at every demo that is only showing a Xbone version whether it's actually coming to PS4 and press them on it?

I find it hard to believe they will do something like this, however, given everything we know of Microsoft and their business practices, not only in the gaming industry, but over the last two to three decades, this rumor is plausible.

Using financial incentives to undermine the competition instead of building their own brand sounds like something Microsoft will do. Not to mention, any publisher who accepts such a weak and petty deal clearly does not share the best interests of their developers and that is to sell the games their developers create. And I must mention, if Sony is also a participant of such deals, they should be called out.

I hope this rumor is not true, but if come Monday it turns out to be accurate, I think hardcore gamers should let the industry know that such business practices does not help the industry grow, but rather it stifles competition.

If I wanted to make this a thread I would have made this a thread... but I suppose if I put something out there that I'm no longer in control of it once I hit submit. Which is why I should learn to shut up.

I have heard this. I heard this from a friend in third party and I've heard it elsewhere. I can't corroborate. I have also heard, from another source, which I posted about also that a lot of games aren't there because the publishers are saying they aren't ready. Is that BS because of moneyhats from MS? I have no idea.

I don't even completely believe this rumor which is why that post you quoted said to take it with a major grain of salt. E3 is a crazy time and as far as I understand the companies are *still* fighting to have things on stage with them and not with others. But some other folks posted that they heard this... so I joined in say I had also.

But unlike something like the games that i heard MS were showing (which have been all but confirmed at this point) this isn't something I'm 100% certain of. I was passing on a half assed rumor because it tis the season and people are hungry for any info they can get. So let me just say this again... these are things i've heard - i have no idea if they are true. I'm not vouching for them, just passing them on.

So you're saying its a fact then right?

big fucking deal.

and it probably isn't true anyways (would be a waste of money), just some rumour from a random gaffer.

you know, starting a new thread where you piss and moan about every little thing Microsoft may or may not be doing undermines the complaints for all the shitty they're actually doing.

how about microsoft spends their money on fixing their problems with this console before they pay developers to show their games on their floor? smh....

How is this different than any other marketing deal. They didn't show 360 versions of AC3 last e3 and featured PS3 in their adverts. So this is like that but on a large scale? Won't many devs be running on high end PC's anyways? Who cares?

It's Microsoft.

And since lately (and even rightfully so, for certain things) GAF hates Microsoft, it's something "shameful, bad, whatever".

Even if it's something every company does on a daily basis.

Every chance to hate on MS is a godsend. xD

Man the MS hate in this forum is getting out of hand, why are we believing this Mortimer guy again?, oh right Chubigans vouches for him lol

Edit: and even if true, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that practice, way to overeact op.

Is this tactic really effective? E3 is a "nerdy" event so to speak, everybody there already knows that those titles coming to ps4 anyway, i doubt this will affect public perception at all.

Sounds kind of fucked up. Shaming the other company because you messed up at the initial reveal and continue to stumble into the year's biggest show.

Fuck you, Microsoft.

Really, not a big deal. I really want to see what new games Sony is doing anyway. Things will be ok if I don't see Madden or COD at the Sony Event.

I'm guessing this will be the case for some of the major things we saw at the Xbone event.

I'm expecting PS4 Call of Duty and FIFA 14 to no-show E3.

this doesnt really seem like a big deal unless they are forced to pretend that ps4 versions don't exist. don't they usually show the PC version of multiplats anyway?

If it's true, what exactly is the point? It's not like the PS4 versions of games aren't going to be advertised before launch. History has shown that 'winning' E3 means fuck all in the grand scheme of things.

Because this is about Microsoft, and lately people have been riding the hate train.

It sounds a little shady for sure. Perhaps Sony could preemptively counter this action by putting out a press release that lists some of the third-party games that are scheduled for PS4. That way, even if the games aren't on display, people would know that they're coming.

Can I ask, are the titles that MS are set to show pretty much in line with what GAF is expecting?

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
Come on, people. If this is morally reprehensible, then exclusive games, seperated launch dates, etc. are as well. As long as they do not lie or sabotage the actual game itself, who cares?

This is just advertisment.

If true then all this confirms is that MS are scared shitless of Sony in the gaming space, and that multiplatform titles likely look far more visually appealing on PS4.

A really bizarre and embarrassing thing to do.

This scares the crap out of me. We might know these games are coming on the PS4 but the mainstream media might not. Lets not forget E3 is mentioned on cable news and other mainstream media. If they talk about these games only being shown on the Xbone it could give the casual or bro-dude the impression these games are Xbone exclusives. Very dirty trick.

How is this new?

How is this anything to get upset about?

It'll be pretty obvious most third party games won't be exclusive, or if they are it'll be a short term thing.

If it is true I could see it being effective for casual gamers. They will read : Call of Duty ran nicely on the XBone (no PS4 version was available for press to try)... etc

Didn't Sony do this during the PS2 days?

Sony was said to have influence over retailer and secured more shelf space for PS2 over the Dreamcast or something to that effect.

Give me a break, how would they not know? I've seen multiplatform games advertised solely for one console many times this gen, and people still realized it was out for other platforms.

Amirox said there is other source. You are not only the one.

If this is true, this is proof that Microsoft has no idea what they're doing and where their priorities lie. This is a move of utter desperation. I can't see this working, however, because Destiny is said to be at Sony's press conference and I don't think Microsoft wants Sony to showcase their triple A devs even more than they had to.

For months, several members of GAF have told me that Microsoft is not competing with Sony and they have their eyes are on Apple and google? Do some of you still believe this? Sony has caught them completely off guard.

right. remember when some people thought Assassin's Creed was PS3 exclusive for a time? Any how little that meant in the grand scheme of things. I honestly think this is more about ensuring that the better looking PS4 versions are kept in the shadows.

So the Wii U has been Dreamcasted and now the PS4 is being Gamecubed (assuming this is more serious that just delayed reveals and a handful of delayed PS4 DLC). Nothing new with the industry.

Really smart thing to do sadly.... because I guarantee saying 3 games look better on PS4 rather than every game will be much easier to spin with the press....

I feel terrible for show floor workers who will be constantly asked if the PS4 version looks better
