Man I remember the day I heard the news clearly. I was working at a summer camp with no data access for cell phones so I heard it from some of the kids in camp. I can't believe that this was 4 years ago.

Days like these...

Have a Blessed Day
Funny thing i grew up listening to Thriller and Bad but for some reason i cant remember anything about his death. Im guessing because he had become eccentric and irrelevant a mere husk of the man whose music i grew up on.

I remember the day of his death. One of the few times where I felt like the world just stopped to celebrate the genius of an artist. Hell, even MTV started showing music videos again.

Thinks his PR is better than yours.

I was in Seoul, SK teaching a grade 1 class when I read about it over break.... Spent the afternoon teaching my other classes the lyrics and dance moves from the Bad music video.

Was a sad but fantastic day!

SOthe news about him staying awake for 60 days is fake?
Well, I guess so as there's no way he could go two months without sleeping, it's just not possible :p

I have no doubt he spent most of that time high as a kite, though. He clearly was an addict and a shadow of his former self. Was on the verge of a revival of sorts but he'd been an irrelevant eccentric for years before then, IMO. Not to lessen his legacy or impact! But in his later years he just seemed completely off the planet. Really sad, he was obviously surrounded by enablers.

Man I could watch youtubes of MJ dancing all day. Miss the guy such a sad last couple years. After all he did he didn't deserve to go down like that.

I'M FINISHED!

Um exCUSE me Sakurai but CLEARLY the best choice for Smash Bros would be my fav niche character HOWEVER you are clearly INCOMPETENT and
What are his best 3 best songs post Dangerous allegations?

I will take a stab...

1) Stranger In Moscow

2) Scream

3) Earth Song

Invincible doesn't really do anything for me.

Still remember the girl I was by and the friend that texted me when he died, and still being in disbelief until the whole world was broadcasting it when I got home.

The greatest of all time, no one will ever come close, when he died he took the crown and throne with him as far as I'm concerned.

Still put on some YouTube live performances from him on a regular basis, as well as his hits and unknown gems on the go.

I watch lots of MJ footage on youtube on a weekly or a monthly basis, it's that good and so unforgettable.

I hope his children are alright. I heard Paris tried to commit suicide. :(

I felt sad for her. When she cried in the funeral I thought it was a bit staged and forced by the horrendous family she's got around her but in her recent interviews, more a grown up, she is clearly the only sane person in that bunch and I really developed a sympathy for her, Prince 1 and Blanket either not talk at all or behave like robots.. no wonder she tried to commit suicide, poor girl, I hope she finds support in her mom.

Damn, it's been this long already?

Still miss this guy. Hate that feeling when I'm listening to his music or watching a video, especially post Thriller, and just wondering why.

My then-GF had bought tickets to one of his scheduled showings after my birthday and we were getting the arrangements settled when the news broke. She was perhaps a bigger fan than I was (and I've been a fan since I could walk), so it just put a huge rift in the whole thing.

I watched a documentary on his autopsy last month. I'm not sure how much of it is true or if it's all BS, but assuming it is mostly accurate, it paints a very different picture of the MJ I grew up on.

I will admit that it left me a bit disturbed and shaken afterwards. Even if it's bogus, it's still very clear that the man had been troubled ever since the Pepsi commercial incident. You can see it in his behavior, hear it in his music, and in just about every aspect of his public life. He did well to hide it, but the man who made Thriller and the man thereafter were (perhaps more than figuratively) two completely different people.

Don't want to get overly sentimental here (at least not yet), so I'll just post my favorite song:

RIP.

It's been 5 years now since his death, how time flies.

I remember where I was when I found out. I was eating at my Grandparents when my sister called to tell me that TMZ reported that MJ had died. I didn't believe and after watching the news (Think it was HLN) sure enough they were confirming it. Afterwards I got into his music which I'm sure a lot of people did. It's still weird how during that week, quite a few famous people died (Him, Billy Mays and Mollie Sugden among others)

RIP Trilling King of Pop.

It's really sad that Farrah Faucet (sp?) died the same day.

Got the latest album and have been playing it - "Slave To The Rhythm" is my favourite so far.

Loving You and A Place With No Name are both my shiiiit. lol.
So good.

Timbaland did a great job on the album.

Also, yeah, it's hard to believe it's been five years already.
Time sure flies...

Wow can't believe it has been 5 years, originally the news didn't hit me until a few days later. I was in disbelief and shock for ages, couldn't stop playing his music over and over again (this went on for months, i basically had MJ cd's on every day).

There won't be another like him.

I agree with you number 1 choice. SIM is one of the greatest songs MJ has ever recorded. Not a huge fan of the other 2 though. For me, the other 2 are 'Is it scary?' (waay better than Ghosts) and 'Little Susie'. Wish we got more ballads along the lines of "Little Susie'

I remember I was stationed at Wright-Patterson AFB and I was watching TV downstairs with my newborn daughter while my wife was upstairs showering. Saw the news and I was just like, "What?....what?...There's no way!". I ran upstairs and burst into the bathroom to tell her :/ Not like it warranted all that but...I guess it's always a little surprising and surreal when a public figure and celebrity passes away like that.

It's still crazy to think that he's just not here anymore, even 5 years later.

Once again, RIP to the unquestioned greatest entertainer of all time. :(

MJ, especially his 80's stuff, is in my rotation on a daily basis.

In the same light with what I posted some weeks ago in the favorite MJ song thread, yesterday I discovered some more extended mixes to MJ's songs from that era. They're on average 9 and a half minutes long, and you get to hear part of the songs on their own, and all the extra ad libs you never heard before in the album versions.

15 tracks, one playlist to just sit back and jam to the greatest entertainer of all time for today:

It still sucks that he isn't here anymore, but he left such an untouchable collection of music and visuals that will last forever, and that's why he'll be the King forever too.

Once again, RIP to the unquestioned greatest entertainer of all time. :(

Yessir.

I'm glad the new album came out close to the 5 year anniversary. And on top of that it has 2 to 3 really good hit singles.

I still remember this thread five years ago. :(
