MURICA, f*ck yeah

Here's an interesting article from Betanews, the author explains why he believes that XBO will be the winner in the next generation battle:

http://betanews.com/2013/08/03/four-big-reasons-xbox-one-not-ps4-will-win-over-the-masses/

Microsoft's vision for the next gen console war isn't concerted on a single area. Instead, its putting its money on a holistic approach to winning the hearts and minds of gamers and media consumers alike. Here's my take on why Microsoft's on track for making it happen.

The four reasons:

4. Hardware Specs Alone Won't Win a Console War
3. Toppling the Leading Incumbent is Easier Said than Done
2. Microsoft's Online Gaming Backbone Puts Sony (and Nintendo) to Shame
1. Modern Consoles Are Entertainment Hubs -- And the Numbers Prove It

but inferior hardware specs + $100 premium can lose a console war.

also there's the whole negative stigma of ms trying to fuck the consumer 6 ways to sunday thinking that the "average consumer" won't care and it's only the hardcore gamers that will bitch about it and let's shit on them. joke was on them that they had to backpedal on that.

article was probably written by a 14 year old call of duty online curse word spewer, regardless of who that guy on the site is pretending to be.

The PS4 being 100 bucks cheaper will make a huge difference the first year.

I also don't care if MS changed their policies, they tried to screw us, so I'm not buying a Xbox1.

But those aren't reasons. They're arguments against why one won't, but they're not reasons why one will.

Also the answer to number one, your 360 is still going to do all that stuff. The masses doesn't need a new system to do it.

If that's seriously one of the reasons, then the Wii U has a chance to dominate then.
It does, and it could have if Nintendo didn't botch the launch so badly. Releasing the Wii U as the Wii 2 or Super Wii with impressive software would have made it a success.

I really do think Sony will only have the win for launch and early 2014. Microsoft has all the right cards in play to out sell the PS4. Mid and Late 2024 are key for Microsoft. If Titian Fall pays off, it'll be the start of Microsoft gaining momentum, Titian Fall could be a huge seller and has potential. Honestly even the marketing would be simple "FROM THE CREATORS OF CALL OF DUTY, THE NEXT BIG THING, TITIAN FALL.". Effective, simple, and would generate hype.

Next is Halo, Halo in itself has more main stream appeal then anything Sony has so far. Halo will guaranty sales for the Xbox One. If Microsoft could work this out perfectly with a price cut in late 2014 around Halo's launch, and assuming Sony stays at $399 (isn't GRRD5 really expensive?), a $399 Xbox One with great titles like Halo and Titian Fall will move systems and, if Microsoft keeps their Contract with Activison regarding CoD DLC, Microsoft will have the edge over Sony with Main Stream Appeal.

Finally, the most risky card and the one that has the potential to backfire hard, Kinect. If Kinect performs as MIcrosoft wants it to perform, and the Kinect makes the Xbox One appear as the Family Friendly, Superior Tech (not specs, but tech itself, being able to say and do things quickly and simply by voice, and-having features Sony doesn't), Microsoft could have an advantage.

Of course Kinect could be seen as useless and seen as a spy camera that is worthless, in that case Microsoft is xboned.

Meh, I think Microsoft has what it takes to "win" this gen.

Edit: Also Marketing will play a key factor, I'm excited to see how the Xbox One and Playstation 4 will be marketed on TV. I'm sure the Xbox One will have more ads and be marketed harder, cause you know, that Microsoft money. :p But Microsoft ads are generally.... Bad... And PS4 without any doubt has the postive word of mouth as of this moment. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

Microsoft's dedicated servers will win over a lot of people. This seems like one of the console's biggest strengths.

For the best multiplayer experience, buy an Xbox One. If you want the best graphics (for a console), buy a PS4.

I'd agree with point 4 if the system was actually cheaper than the competition.

Point 3 is also BS considering that Sony and Nintendo who were also market leaders at the previous generations can easily lose the top spot easily once a new gen starts. Also, unlike the PS2 or PS1, the 360 is far from the worldwide market leader.

Point 2 is debatable, but I guess we'll find out once both consoles launch at the end of this year.

4. Hardware Specs Alone Won't Win a Console War

2. Microsoft's Online Gaming Backbone Puts Sony (and Nintendo) to Shame

So... it won't matter at all if games look and perform better on PS4, but it will be of critical importance if more games on Xbone might have dedicated servers?

Didn't the PS3 advertise itself as a 'multimedia center' too and cost more than a 360?

We all know how that went.

I think its so much simple.

These days: the cheaper -> the better.

Thats a shame but I think that was the fatal error on PS3 and will be on XB1.

PS3's cell was the fucking philosopher stone together with the blu-ray, and those 599$ made Sony cry like a litte girl while MS was selling a DVD based console.

well the fact that when Microsoft releases its data about live usage in recent years the entertainment use is just as high as the gaming side so yes people do want entertainment like movies on their consoles and the numbers are proving that.

XbOne is so big, there won't be any room for the PS4 on the shelf.

If it stays that way. MS will be looking very, very closely at pre-order numbers versus PS4.

I could see Xbox One dropping to $399 still - there's at least two big conferences to go where MS will feel the need to pull out all the stops and regain momentum (Gamescom, TGS).

I'm sure because they said up front Kinect 2 is so expensive to make - it's the reason why it's so much more than the PS4 - that they can't drop the price.

If anything it gives reasons why the ps3 or the 360 will win next gen...

PS4 is One rare case that actually Cheaper gives you The superior hardware.

On the media front remind me again which console was number 1 for Netflix, people don't like to pay a sub to access there subs. Ps4 does everything media wise xboxone does, I think people are getting confused as to what a Hdmi in is and what it does. Also for mainstream price is always key.

I asking myself what "winning" means with more and more thread popping up. Having 100.000 units more sold? 1.000.000 units?

If neither Sony or MS have a megaton fuckup, they will be trucking along hand in hand through the finish line. One region will have more X sold, one region more Y. But worldwide there won't be a huge margin in my opinion. Both will have their exclusives and everything else (3rd party) will be the same.
MS kind of won this gen because they took a huge chop from Sony and the console market, although Sony recovered pretty good.

A real "gen" winner would mean that the console is dominating worldwide with a distance second place. I don't see this.

Edit: Ah just misread. Thought it was winning the gen. Mixed it with another recent thread.

Yup, no-one did servers before MS.

Its truly revolutio........

Oh wait.

Depends on what you're looking for. If you just want slightly shinier graphics, sure. If you're also looking for strong media functionality then a case can be made for the Xbox.

In the US, you mean? Its certainly possible. Globally? I think not.

Exactly. Globally it's going to be very hard for MS as anyone who thinks that they are the most successful should really check again they've done well with 360 in the USA, Canada & the UK but that's about it

Here's an interesting article from Betanews, the author explains why he believes that XBO will be the winner in the next generation battle:

Eh, I do not agree wholly with his points. Yet, Xbox One starts its war against PS4 in a much better position than Xbox 360 did.

At the time Sony had several very important gaming exclusives (or games perceived as such), such as:
- Final Fantasy
- Metal Gear
- Grand Theft Auto (remember the Xbox editions coming out like 6 months later?)
- Kingdom Hearts
- Resident Evil
- Not to mention a bunch of "secondary", yet representative ex-Sony-exclusives

Now, one by one, Microsoft grabbed these series and brought it on the console, de facto aligning the third-party production of the two console.

I'm not expecting huge surprises in this sense, like for instance an exclusive Grand Theft Auto or Call of Duty on either console.

So, a much better starting position for Xbox One, something which does not seem very aknowledged in gaming forums.

But superior hardware has never been the most important thing. Look at PS1 and PS2...

Gamecube was cheap as shit and had better hardware than PS2...

Money and games. Thats all that matters.

The way things stand now, both consoles will probably end up around 90 to 100 million. Current gen they both fell shy of 75, and that's with the Wii selling 100 mil. Now that the Wii U is tanking, it's fair to say the other two consoles will eat away at Nintendo's current Wii market.
