I'll admit that I had a pretty visceral reaction to reading the title. However, it is their chose and they should be treated as equals.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
I don't think there's anything wrong with this, but I'm sure there will be lots of people who will derive enjoyment from it in ways they nomally don't from a typical fight, if you know what I mean.

Single-handedly caused Exxon-Mobil to sue FOX, start World War 3
Wait, what? Was his nickname the Black Knight?

No Excuses. He also named his gym and his book that. He's a motivational speaker now. I do remember people calling him Pac Man and The Biter on Sherdog or one of ther other MMA forums from hell.

On one hand, this seems like parading around disabled people in order for the non-disabled to point and watch (like an old style "freak" show). On the other hand, if these two people enjoy fighting, shouldn't they be given a chance to do what they enjoy doing?

I can't decide how I feel.

That's exactly it, had their conditions not been used like this for promotion it would seem fine, but now it does feel like a "freak show".
I'm all for them participating in sports but this feels iffy to me.

This reminds me of my idea for a sitcom about a guy who looks like he has Down syndrome, but doesn't, and how he goes about his day to day life. It was tentatively titled "Down & Out".

I've always wanted to do a buddy cop movie starring a guy with down's syndrome titled "Officer Down".

I'm not sure if this is more or less controversial than the staged man versus woman fight from earlier in the year.

Palsy Punch is nothing compared to Retard Rage. Stronger than 10 bears yo!!

(oh god I am sorry please forgive me father)

I used to work with a Downs guy and he was so strong he could lift up a big shop freezer and would hurt himself by accident all the time without realising it. Insane strength + less pain? Winner!

joking aside, I think this is OK as long as the combatants can both give consent and know what's going on. There should be more fights putting differently abled people against each other. Smart vs dumb, fat vs little, deaf vs blind... we're all people still. People with a bloodlust.
Yeah, we limit our own strength as to not hurt ourselves

I don't really get where the people who have an issue with this are coming from. It feels like they'd rather people with developmental disorders were sheltered away in private "for their own protection", rather than letting them participate.

If they are physically able and cleared by a medical professional then I'm fine, but most people with downs have serious heart problems and a lot of other internal organ problems too. I really don't want people dying for my entertainment and don't see it is as noble cause for the disabled to encourage it. I'm sure there are potential liability issues as well, so I don't blame anyone who won't sign off on it.

There is a huge difference between letting people participate and putting on a show for people to mock and laugh at. This is clearly not being marketed as a "real" fight, but as a way to watch a disabled person get injured for enjoyment.

Exactly. This is sort of gross.

Not sanctioned so it definitely shouldn't have happened. MMA is a dangerous sport but most of the terrible things that happen occur in these types of unsanctioned matches where the organizer only cares to make quick money and not the health of the fighters.

I don't like this. It feels like we're throwing two people in a cage and letting them amuse us.

Edited your post because that's all it really is. I'd got out on a limb and say that this is something that they both want to do, both love doing, and aren't being forced to do it. If they want gross cauliflower ear let them have gross cauliflower ear.

Just watched that 13 minute ESPN special with Garrett, wow. Incredible. Holdin back a tear, no joke. The dude kicks ass

I don't see why it's not marketed as a real fight. They have a whole Olympics for the disabled and nothing about that poster posted in the OP mocks the disabled or mentally handicapped.

1) Why can't people with disabilities have the same opportunities as those without?
2) Reading posts like "retard strength" and "retard rage" make me absolutely sad for society. I am a special education teacher and people who say things like this are what makes me fear for my students after they leave me for the "real world." Please stop being so ignorant.
