GC: DriveClub gameplay

The night racing in that youtube video is beyond amazing. If the final product looks anything like this I'll be pre-ordering lol.

I seriously need to get a racing wheel, I like these games enough to warrant it.

What's the best wheel gaf?

I'd hold off for now. We don't know which wheels will work on the PS4 yet.

Are you expecting individually modeled leafs or something? How is this not impressive for a racing game?

And the sheer variety of trees there is too.

Some Forza 5 for comparison:

And PCARS

The hate for this game is just... lol
Thanks for this comparison. Driveclub has some nice environments.

My only issue is the somewhat garish colours. Besides that, it looks like it's shaping up quite nicely.

PCars is still alpha i think. Driveclub environments looks incredible. This is next gen visuals. And it`s a launch game. Just imagine games in a year or two.

I need to see a direct feed first but for now there a good possibility to #DriveClub be better than Forza 5 in graphics terms.

Based just on what we've seen demonstrated, I don't really know how you could come to that conclusion. That's certainly at odds with the comments from people who've had the chance to play both of them at shows. Mind you, Driveclub looks plenty fun.

As things stand, FM5 looks more polished. However, Driveclub has a greater scope and the vistas look pretty stunning to me.

Come on, the car practically look like plastic. This is the same criticism the Forza had for the longest time until the improved their lighting model. Kind of makes their first original video look shady as fuck.

Never heard anyone else say the cars look like plastic. Looks good to me.

I'm really impressed by the environment, especially when the car ran over the plants at the end of the video. Loving all the little touches too.

They say this isn't a simulation racer...but the way the cars take corners tells me otherwise. Where are the arcade aspects of the game?

It's arcadey in the PGR/Criterion NFS sense and not in the same sense as something like Ridge Racer or Outrun.

It's an arcade racer like how Grid was an arcade racer. Driveclub most definitely allows for much more "drifty" corner taking than a sim racer.

I really don't know what you're talking about, this game has some of the best vegetation I've seen in a game.

Most definitely. Take out the cars and I'd believe you if you told me these were screens from a new RPG or something like that.

Ah, that's unfortunate(for me personally). I thought they were targeting an Outrun type style but with off-road shortcuts and stuff like that.

SniperHunter you are really making my head hurt.

why? I am being honest. Remember too human? One bad e3 demo pretty much killed the entire studio.

SK made the mistake of showing a pre alpha demo, EGM gave it a failure rating and kicked up a storm from which SK never recovered.

I dunno if I'm jaded or what. Life long lover of racing, and racing games, and while the game does look nice, this just does nothing for me.

Having said that, I am excited for GT6. Hmm...

Yeah I dunno, I'm not seeing the hook here beyond the graphics. Is racing in teams really gonna be what makes this game stand out? I guess all it needs to be is pretty with solid controls, being a launch game and all.

Nonsense. If the game comes out and it's awesome, no one will care about the E3 demo.

EDIT: Reading comprehension fail. I see what you're getting at. I still maintain that no one will care about the E3 demo if the game's awesome when it comes out.

I think people in general should just stop being so shallow. I think it's fine to speculate, but until the product actually drops, we have no definitive answer.

I'd rather they show SOMETHING of the game instead of showing nothing. I don't care how it looks, it's fun to talk about it. As many have mentioned before, how many times has Evolution done this before? This is not new to them, I don't recall any of their games being an unfinished wreck at the release.

Just analyze what's there and wait till release to shrug it off or pick it up.

Played it today.

Didn't look great - played ok..

Not excited at all.

What didn't look great about it? Can you elaborate at all? I believe we're getting direct feed gameplay later today so we'll be able to judge for ourselves, but I'm interested in why you think that, given how much it looks to be visually improved from the older build.

Hmm Blim seems to like it

Framerate and IQ could use some fixes, and I don't doubt it will be done by the release date. Showfloor demo runs at 30fps, and has a few slowdowns here and there.
Gameplay is solid, as expected.

Also they are showing the game behind close doors.

Well I'd agree with many of your points, the racing genre is absolutely stale. I mean I could give 2 shakes about the next Gran Tourismo, or Forza, Need for Speed, project cars blah blah blah. This is going to get lumped into the same category of "stale" car gameplay. I like that Evolution is trying to enhance it with social aspects. I don't know if they'll all be good mind you, but they're making it a bit more personal, and adding in tons of friendly competition elements.

Also with the track details, they're hoping to tackle the racing genre's other massive flaw, blandness. If they can make the driving itself fun, I would gladly play this over and over just to have a joy-ride. Call it what you will, but the though of doing some sun-set races with darkness descending sounds awesome, it's what I'd do in real life. I'm actually hoping they focus on vista races instead of city-scapes. I drive in the City day in and day out, give me exotic countrysides and canyons please.

Frame rate and IQ.
Using the bumper cam I couldn't see the track in front of me. Stuff that is pretty close works - stuff in the distance (not in the background) turns into some kind of pixel-mess.
Had to check the mini map to see if there was a turn coming up.

But! The LCD screens at the Sony booth were pretty horrible - don't know if the can be blamed for some of this.

PGR3 was awesome. In 2005.

By the time PGR4 came out, yeah, my expectations were a lot higher. I never played it.

PGR3 was more sim & PGR4 was definitely more arcade.

Did they remove the object based motion blur in the new video they shown?

Game is looking to be more & more like the biggest next gen disappointment when compared to Forza 5.

Iam starting to like this game.

One has to apreciate the high detail dense environemnts this game has. The devs are working to make everything beautiful, like env, car detail, lighting, texturing which makes completed and constistent graphically. Not just going for high detail shiny cars and then low res env and static lighting(cough ** f5**cough)

New tack looked great, seemed smooth except for couple of glitches, nice upgrade from E3, looking forward to seeing the final product and the direct feed that they are working on today.

I guess we need d.f gameplay to make judgements and not just put together animation which always looks better.

Not sure why they haven't done this already.

Going by how it went in the current gen:
24 fps instead of 30 fps
970p instead of 1080p^
more post processing, lens flares and effects
More upclose detail but much more pop in and LOD scaling

Yeah I guess you're right. If its more fun than Ridge Racer at its best, might as well get it. There's not much else going on for PS4 the first few months. The graphics need to be super awesome for me to give a shit though cause I'll get my fix from GT6.

I think racing games might be the new beat em up genre. Awesome growing up, not much to them as an adult.
