Xbox One Dashboard Leak - Version 2

I don't get it, why this dashboard is so awful for you?

Too many "little squares"? It's "messy"? But in fact the PS4 dashboard really looks like same:

Well except it's blue... It looks like a smartphone app.

Anyway I like both of them, but it's still funny to see that everytime there's a news about MS, the comments will be negatives.

Looks ugly.

That first one is something different or was an old mockup. Or maybe it's a section like social feed or something.

The second is the real UI and the difference is it's all games..and if you want to avoid it you can pull up an XMB style menu (as shown at Gamescom by Shu)

EDIT: Maybe it's all negatives because a majority of GAF don't like something.

apparently the other video on the kid's channel (which by the way uses his real name) contained footage of the family so it's gg for whichever employee this xbox one kit went out to
I really feel sorry for the kid's parent who works at MS, I hope they don't get in too much trouble over this. :/

I just hope with the speed bumps it remains quiet
I doubt it'll have any effect, I didn't notice a console noise in the video (but maybe it was just poor aq) so I doubt noise will be a problem. Anything would be better than ps360 phats though.

Not a huge fan of the PS4 UI from what I've seen, either, but at least it's more colorful. Still looks way too cluttered compared to XMB...
Edit: Forgot about the UI shown during GC with Shu, that was more XMB-like and I didn't mind that.

Yes it's good to be able to pull up the XMB style meny, but on the X1 there's also the system of "pin" or "unpin", so you can personalized your dashboard. I just hope there won't be any ad... or not as much as the 360 dash, it's awful... or at least not for the Gold members.

There will most certainly be ads.

I like a lot of little squares. Lets you see a lot of options on screen at any given time. Way better than having to scroll through stuff. It's basically what the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS do and all of those have very functional interfaces. I'll take the functionality over the eye candy.

I assume it'd be customizable. It'd be pretty dumb if there was no way to put Netflix on one of those screens instead of hiding it inside an app or video menu. Or maybe those apps weren't ready or available to be put on that device, or the owner hasn't installed them. I mean if IE, Skype, and Bing all get a space in the home menu, you should be able to put apps you'd actually use on it.

I am sure you will be able to customize the home start up screen with your favorite apps. The video did show it being really responsive, very impressive!

Yeah and that sucks... It's the thing I hate the most on the actual dashboard, the fact that Gold members are paying, and don't even have an ad free dashboard... They have to change it.

Yeah, I hear you man. It definitely sucks.

I mean, PS3 has a few ads too, but they are tucked away and you have to physically go to the XMB portion of "What's New" to see them.

You can have your PS3 turn on to start on that or not as well.

Confirmed XB1 dev posted this about that Savage Frontier tile on the dashboard

I wonder if it's an interactive Folding@Home type of thing.

Those wouldn't be on the top and front of the box.

Look at the back left, this is from a pocket lint.com gallery of a dev unit.
That isn't the same sticker that's on the one in the OP video. The video GavinGT posted does have the same stickers, and it reinforces my opinion. The small one on the front is a QR code. The big one on top is three barcodes, a UPC-esque one at top left, and two progressively longer ones below. The sizes/lengths are virtually identical to Microsoft P/N and S/N barcodes. (And yes, I can tell that even from unclear shots; I am very familiar with these.) They might not be actual retail values for the barcodes, but the stickers are the same.

See how fast the fucking copy of Ryse booted? Damn MS would be silly tohave this pulled down, that was impressive. Even from standby?

I love the look. It seems very very responsive, and I enjoy the tiles on windows 8, they don't work too well in a pc environment but I like their implementation on the x360.

During suspend, the game is living completely within RAM--anything other than instantaneous start would be a huge disappointment. This is going to be a great feature of the new consoles.

The person who posted this made a mistake and that is obvious to everyone but him.

E3 Version looked better than this but i am sure the final build will be fast.

Looked interesting

Well yeah, it's suspended in ram and it's a digital copy.

It's slick as hell though. Gamers going to love it on both PS4 and Xbone.

This leak reminds me of when footage of a Halo sequel was leaked in a similar way. That kid eventually ended up begging everyone to take down the information. The parents will probably get reprimanded and banned from taking home any further equipment/materials, but I doubt they will get fired over the UI leak.

I'd be glad to throw more disk space at suspending multiple games! That would be fucking hot.
That'd be a good feature to allow save anywhere in every title, but it wouldn't get you the fast switching like you saw in the video. Loading RAM states from hard disk wouldn't go any faster than loading a game into RAM normally (though it would start you at the same frame, instead of at a designated checkpoint).

It wouldn't be much different from my 500MB/second SSD in my PS4 :D

The searing white on lime green is awful.

That's the "it doesn't matter if it's hideous to most people as long as it's memorable" Metro school of UI design. Yes, now when I see a mixture of neon orange, purple, yellow, and green, I'll instantly think of Metro and how I don't want anything to do with Windows 8/Surface/Win Phones, etc.

Leaking confidential material and facts that can give competitors any advantage is a firing offense. ESPECIALLY after you signed an additional NDA (in excess to your employment contract wording) to bring the hardware home.

PS: Also depends on how high up you are in the food chain. If a VP does it, it's probably fine. Low level employee? Toast.

Yup, very little tolerance for this stuff in the tech world. Though something like the dashboard isn't really a big deal at this point.

I agree, the dashboard itself isn't a huge deal. However, it's clearly taken over the news cycle about Xbox for a day or two (or more) and possibly affect consumer perception of the product. Controlling this is important, especially during the lead up to a product launch. This affects the ability of the PR team to drive conversation about the product and also adds extra work in counteracting any negative PR that might be generated, which cost the company money and therefore is Bad(tm).

They most certainly use hard disk space for when you've terminated a game (term used in Kotaku leaked documents when you fully exit a game) which saves its state. The game being installed to the hard drive is as already making it as fast as they can get it for booting when not suspended in RAM.

Yep. I figured that Microsoft is pretty paranoid about leaks similar to studios and screeners for big budget projects. So if this employee has taken one off site, they probably are important enough that they won't get an automatic boot.

I'm not surprised at all they went balls out Metro, gotta agree with some posters here, it really does look snappy, which is awesome, that 360 controller drank a gallon of Uber Mass though, quite beefy, reminds me of the Xbox (Original) controller.

Also, anyone else sitting here, wondering where the hell this kid got his paws on this machine?

Family member is on the Xbox team? Xbox team members have been allowed to bring a version of it home for testing.

It doesn't really look like there'll be any sort of customization available like wallpapers or themes. I wonder if you can change the tile colors?

it still looks pretty early though - there weren't the page headers like in the previous demos, just a big long list of tiles. I'd expect them to add final polish still.

Although with the density of the tiles I'm not sure you could apply a wallpaper and actually see anything. Hopefully you'll be able to move some of those tiles around
