Xbone Game DVR sharing only over Live at Launch, YouTube & Facebook added Next Year

Something about the announcement just before E3 made me think it was shoved in as a response to the PS4 as opposed to a core part of the system.

When something as basic as selecting the system language regardless of your region is not available at launch, it's not really that surprising this isn't either.

This can't be so hard, can it?

Resources must be really tight. Or maybe more fundamental things have been cutting it tight and been requiring ongoing attention.

Is anything going to be ready for this machine at launch?

What next? Third party titles won't be ready for launch? Would explain why they haven't been seen yet.

Features on the PS4 are also being released later (Gaikai) so I don't know what the big deal is. You can still share over the LIVE network.

Not sure how Gaikai can compare to this. You can still play PS3 games. You cannot upload to youtube on Xbox one. Also, good Sir, Sony since February mind you, stated this will not be available at launch.

This looks like another hint (out of many) that shows that the console was meant for a 2014 release originally.

Gaikai is not a feature on PS4, thats whats the problem but ok.

Every week it seems new and exciting feature will not be available on day 1. I wonder how could they fall so behind in their development.

Rather than a 'supposed to be launched in 2014' assumption, what if the Game DVR was never part of the XB1 design, and was a feature that only materialised after February 2013?

... Yes, I am implying that maybe, just maybe Xbox decided to implement their own version of the 'Share' feature based on what was presented by Sony at their reveal event.

This doesn't bother me. I have no desire to share clips on youtube or facebook..Live is good enough. I just hope twitch is fully functional at launch.

Sounds good, I was actually planning on recording my streams and putting them on Youtube so this saves me time.

It's a line of thought I've been pondering as well. Would go along with the idea that MS got caught out by Sony's Feb. reveal, maybe in more ways than just the unexpected memory upgrade. So MS may have felt forced to reallocate OS development personnel to gain feature parity while still trying to get all their ducks in a row on other fronts (establish partnerships to coincide with the new features, desperately try to get the currently planned stuff up and running in time for launch) leaving development resources stretched too thin compared to the original plans.

Still find it strange that other features seem to also be underdeveloped for launch as well though, such as Kinect not being fully-featured in all the launch countries despite launching in less countries than originally planned and missing TV features outside US and Japan (lol) at launch. If the Xbone was always intended for a 2013 launch, then it just seems like things are progressing much more slowly than originally planned at MS.

The same company that once innovated to no end in online multiplayer, is now falling behind.

We need the guys that conceived Achievements, Reputation System, and TrueSkill to come back.

Funny how we got FUD about the PS4's sharing capabilities via Youtube and now the problems are confirmed for the Xbone instead.

They were pretty upfront about this before the console release date was even announced, NOBODY EXPECTED Gaikai on launch day,

I think it's strategic. For those saying its not ready, check out demos of game dvr studio or whatever it's called. It's very polished. Microsoft probably just wants people to try out their OWN service for sharing clips.

Considering Microsoft never even said they would share to youtube before this, I don't get why everyone is making a big fuss out of this besides to jump on the anti Microsoft bandwagon.

Edit: also op, quote them correctly! Albert said "by next year"

that's a shame I wanted to shore stuff in those sites.
Also bad move from MS, they will lose free advertisement. At least they should push the facebook sharing before asap.

Really.

Since Albert Penello is fond of saying that the reasons all these sorts of delays are happening are because of the changes they had to make after the 180s... In what way would those 180s have impacted this delay? Why would the switch have changed youtube or facebook being ready for sharing purposes?

A possible reason is that from one moment to the next they had to shift resources, which were focused towards completing vision A, to this new Vision B. I imagine there were some features like this that may have been ready on time if they were able to stick to the original plan. With the 180 they had to make I bet there were people/teams that had to drop what they were working on to focus on making sure more crucial elements were ready for launch.

Only speculation of course, but you asked :)

So we can instantly save 30 seconds of any game? Do we have to use a voice command or will there be other options. I really like the share button on PS4

Do you really think so?

Even at the Sony announcement there was confusion about how you could share, and people were saying it would be a total waste of space without social network sharing.

It's difficult for me to believe this was carefully considered by MS, before Sony announced, to have a sharing option that was not linked to famous social networks.

They promised something.
They backed off.

Gamers be gamers and MS being MS. You seem like an apologist.

I really don't think it's a big deal as long as it comes within the first 6 months. A missed opportunity for some extra viral/social marketing during it's early days for sure, but not a big deal in the long run.

When did they promise that? YouTube was never confirmed until this article. Even Microsoft's description of dvr is as follows:

Game DVR: A dedicated Game DVR captures and accesses your magic moments, all saved to the cloud. Along with editing and sharing tools, you will have amazing bragging rights with Xbox Live.

Yes to the other poster, I do believe its strategic and makes sense as they want their own service to catch on.

I find this a little hard to believe. I know XBO had different priorities, but from a gaming POV how could MS not see LPs and game capturing's popularity beforehand and have a feature getting worked on to enable that in their next-gen console? They couldn't of been that blind.

They actually managed to get some TV deals for Japan? Shit, color me impressed x3...

After the May reveal showing their, uh, broad focus, it's really not too hard to imagine them falling behind the curve in specific areas.

Apparently so.

Did I miss something? Are they letting you upload to "So.cl"? Because how can uploading clips within the Live network compare to uploading to Facebook/YouTube?

In other news, Reactionary feature is reactionary.

Bingo. DVR and Twitch just smelled like tacked on copycats since they announced it. Hence, they're separate apps that only work with supporting games instead of being part of the OS like PS4.

Not saying it's wrong to copycat, But it's no surprise to me when stuff like this is announced. Wouldn't be surprised if Twitch is delayed either. They haven't showed it off at all since E3. Unless i missed something.
