Infinity Ward ops to show PS4 footage for COD IGN vids- a series first since MS deal?

I know it's fun to hate on COD for some folks, but I think this looks pretty fun. The Squad vs Squad mode could be a blast, depending on how good the AI is.

This really sucks! I joined this gaming hobby in 2008 with my first Xbox 360 and later a PS3. Along the road I have convinced two of my brothers that are stationed in two different bases in the US to get into gaming so that we can bond.

We get together once every week at least and game our butts off. When I got them on board I got them into 360 and they have loved it. Once the new consoles were announced they asked me "where are we going?" They have both pre-order but only intend on getting one once I tell them.

I know they love the 360 controller and the ease of online and with the added skype so that we can see each others kids it was a no brainer, but more and more I hear about the 1 its getting me scared to have them choose the wrong system. I have to make the choice soon and don't want to be wrong.

The other thread was locked? Sadface.

Did it even reach 2K? Or was it like COD Ghosts. :p

If Gies wants attention on here, he should come post on here. And pay back that money he owes someone. People need to stop posting his stupid tweets.

It started out as pseudo-confirmation about some PS4 multiplats being 1080p while XB1 multiplats (and a couple first party exclusives) were sub-1080p, and even 720p.

Then, we got re-tweets from "insiders" about some ultra-secret they are not allowed to talk about...YET.

Some "insiders" claim it was bad news for the XB1, some claim it was bad news for MS in general and others said it had nothing to do with Microsoft or the XB1.

Hence, original thread was derailed and since no insiders would talk, people started making stuff up and the thread was just hijacked into absurdity.

Now, here we are.

lol

Sessler made it sound depressing and big. He's one of the more mature journos.

Ps4

no matter what you believe, there is significantly less risk involved with the ps4 right now

And the ps4 has a camera available so video chat is inevitable

I am sure the PS4 will get video chat at sometime. TBH for launch I would go PS4 as it is proving to have better ports early on.

Good lord, that post history.

PS4, hands down.

Man, Y2Kev ruined an awesome thread. :(

Anyone know when COD reviews hit?

Yeah - most of the time the mods seem spot on, but I think that was a rash decision. The thread was very interesting if nothing else... it's a shame the 4chan shit got out of hand (I think a ban threat for that pastebin/4chan type stuff would have been in order).

This whole situation has given me 2 different feels.

1. Curiosity: What exactly is going on. Why is there an embargo, why is everyone so secretive, and what do Microsoft have planned to try and combat the inevitable backlash/negativity if it is at all as serious as some of the posts/rumours have suggested.

2. Angry: This whole situation is a glaring spotlight on the sorry state of journalism in this industry. The minute these rumours popped up - there should have been journalists from multiple sites working to uncover the truth and reveal or at least outline the issues/cause behind all of it. Instead we get non-answers, ambiguity and 'wait for it' shit from dick-less 'journalists'. This whole situation is frustrating because I have never felt more like we're being treated like a fucking 'consumer' to a bunch of marketers.

Microsoft shouldn't have anything to hide weeks before launch. Developers shouldn't be afraid or ambiguous on the state of their game weeks before launch. Gaming sites, blogs and journalists should not be afraid, incapable or otherwise compelled to keep quiet on anything that directly affects the end user. We are the fucking customers, paying good money to purchase products. We should be well informed and treated as intelligent humans who can make our own decisions based on the merit of a products value proposition and competitive distinction,

I get marketing (it's my career in fact!). I know that McDonald's should be allowed to spin positives where ever possible. Dress up the burgers to keep them looking delicious on the menu's, create special offers, competitions and new products to keep me interested. And certainly try to gloss over the fact that 95% of the menu is woeful in terms of dietary requirements. At the same time, I can check or ask about essentially every element of the product's, down to where they source shit through the supply chain if need be. I am well informed. I can choose to make a poor decision, and spend $10 on an unhealthy, addictive food.. but at least the information was available to me. And guess what, if I wasn't - there would be investigation/journalism and media coverage that would cause a shitstorm unlike any other - because you can't simply choose to hide important information.

I am not simply a marketer's wet dream - that is, a mid-20's, high disposable income, luxury-item purchasing, entertainment/tech enthusiast. I should be able to expect that a site like IGN, or Kotaku (or any of the other numerous sites) will be covering everything that pops up. Instead we have to rely on ex-editors, CBOAT and insiders to even RAISE an issue. Then it takes days of social media and outrage before we get a fucking PR-manicured non-answer from someone like Penello who wouldn't be able to say a negative word about the company even if we he wanted to. Where the fuck are the journalists in all of this? At press events reviewing games in controlled conditions, slapped with gag orders until pre-planned dates and restrictions on what they can reveal - knowing full well they could potentially miss out on the next COD event (read: clicks) if they speak before spoken to.

Honest to God, if it wasn't for CBOAT (and maybe even famousmortimer) I'd be fucking done with this industry right now.

Whatever happens, which ever system works out for the "better" if the "wrong choice" is made we can always trade them in/return etc, what I'm saying is this close to Christmas & new launch it won't be much of an inconvenience, don't worry.

Was it getting good? It was all so cryptic. I had no idea what was going on.

It was fine until people started citing 4chan. I guess Kev doesn't like 4chan, because it was the stupid rumor there (the big uh-oh is dynamic advertisements in-game..which is not new for games, nor has ANY evidence of being it) that got him sads. I don't blame him, it didn't even make sense for that to be the issue that's apparently damning for a platform. ):

My friend, I wish to try and enlighten you in an age of getting the new toys early; you do not have to partake in any game here. You don't have to make a choice soon. Fuck, you don't actually have to do anything in life, but that's a deeper topic. Instead, asses the present scenario, as there's a lot of shade coming about Xbox One. Let that smoke, be it real or fake, be a pole to determine if you want to dive in regardless. If you find it all too much to consider diving in to get the system right out of the gate, then sit back and see where the cards fall. There is no rush for anything; take your time. There's no deadline, no rush.

Marcus Beer recent tweet:

Beer makes me think there is something up with that PS4 review event.

Maybe they are not getting ps4's early. Maybe they are doing the review event thing of no early bad reviews. Maybe the burgers at the event are just plain cheese but no bacon.

Games press.
Anti consumer practices and DRM out the ass? No problem.
The the pre release review access isnt to there liking? LOSE YOU SHIT THE SKY IS FALLING!

I think it's related to not being allowed to publish game reviews a certain amount of days prior to system launches.

The PS4 launching a week earlier seriously messes things up for Microsoft, in that regard.

MS is forced to deal with what is RUMORED to be higher res multiplats going public on the PS4 7 days prior to the XB1 launch - plenty of time to cancel Day 1 XB1 pre-orders. And if Sony gives the OK for earlier-than 11/15 public game reviews, even more so. (Actually pre-11/12 if Taco Bell does in fact ship those PS4's a couple days earlier)

I agree completely. I'm really looking forward to squads too, even though I know the graphics won't be the most next gen ever.

There are no real journalists anymore, man. They are all just handed what they are allowed to print and everyone goes to town. Nobody does any real reporting (that requires actual work) or journalism (that requires actual work). Then we have the aggregate websites who claim to be journalists but it's always "Source: Some other website".

Journalism is dead. They are nothing more than just flat-out PR firms for these companies.

Taking to twitter, an open forum, serves nothing but to fan the flames of debate and uncertainty. I pity the attention whoring.

Im glad we can put all the insider nonsense behind us when the consoles are out.

It will be nice since then we can focus on playing the games.

This whole recent set of "news" though (don't know how else to put it) has been very interesting.

Just when you think you have a pretty decent grip of what's going on, new "hints" (like Marcus' tweet) come out that makes you go back to scratching your head.

Just going to follow all of this when things are officially confirmed.

Infinity Ward 2.0 (aka minus all the Respawn guys) reminds me of EA-Tiburon now.

-Reusing an already recycled game engine on a new gen of Hardware and still not matching what others have already done on previous gen hardware... (cough Madden vs NFL2K5 cough)

I have ZERO interest in CoD. MW2 was the only one I liked. Everything after that was a waste of time.

Yet, name and name alone is what keeps the CoD/Madden zombies coming back to buy these games and perpetuate the yearly recycling process.

And looking at current Pre-Order numbers for both the XB1 and PS4, CoD:G looks to continue this trend.

I really wish gamers would demand more from developers. $60 ain't chump change, nor is the yearly XBL/PS+ fee needed to play 50% of the game.

Speaking of half the game, the season pass for COD is $60. So if you want the full game, it's $120

Your 3 options:

1: Wait and stick with 360s for 6-12 more months. See how it shakes out.
2: Buy PS4s at or near launch
3: Beta test Xbones

1 is your smartest option, 2 is a viable option, and 3 is a legitimate risk IMO.

Beer would be the wrong example to use to illustrate this considering he went apeshit over MS's DRM policies.

It's crazy how much people hinge on little words from people in twitter like all the details can be dissected in 20 pages threads and everything is a megaton.

Look out, here comes some more bad news according to anyone who wants to think of it as bad.
