COD Ghosts Xbox One offline (2 weeks before launch) not possible without Live?

No

You can still play offline with a banned 360 console.

The fact that the guy was playing just fine until he got nuked by Microsoft. Then sometime after that his console was bricked and now he can't even access the settings or play games offline. Albert blames it on the system always updating, almost everyday which messed up his console. Since he was console banned he could not apply the new update, which then bricked his system.

Now why is that?

Albert's trying to tell us one update bricked his whole console. So if a single update does that now, shouldn't future xbox owners have worries. I would think so. I mean if DRM is truly not on the system anymore and not being removed* from the Day 1 update then why is this dude not able to play his disk games offline anymore.

Because he downloaded the OS when he first logged on before he was temporarily console banned.

The OS which expired as part of a software Development trick to ensure testers stay on the latest build. Go back a few pages and you'll find a more in depth thing I posted that goes into a bit on the processes of software development

When the Xbox One turn on for the first time, there are 2 (TWO) updates: 1 is 500MB and the 2nd one is 700MB, the guy who received the XO from Target just did the 1st one, he didn't have time to download the second one (and this second one isn't even up yet).

Sooo... That's normal.

It still could be, not convinced that has had enough time in the spot light. You could argue there are still several "ass storms".

2) Insane install times.
3) Day One update to casuals who have no clue, buying a brick.

In terms of a NeoGAF "ass storm" and a hard core "ass storm" this could be the final one. The fact CBoaT commented on this thread leads me to believe so.

I think the potential biggest damage to the brand could be when people realize (not hardcores, casuals) figure out they are literally buying a piece of dead weight without the update, that is the kind of thing that goes viral.

I think the insane HALF HOUR install times from the time you put a game into your Xbox One before you can even play the game will be another huge outcry once it manages to seep outside of that thread. Assuming of course, it's not limited to the shoddy port of Call of Duty.

And finally, this. All I'm trying to do is figure out which one could be CBoaT's "final" thing.
 
I don't understand why the OS is being continually updated at this stage. With Microsoft showing off the UI the other day, one would think everything was all up and running smoothly. If I were buying an Xbone I'd be very concerned about them still updating the OS at less than 2 weeks remaining.
Albert saying that the consoles never had the DRM software installed in the first place is at complete odds to what Microsoft have said in the past, the day 1 update is to remove the DRM.

If the DRM software is still in the OS and still in the OS so close to launch, aren't they leaving it extremely late to push out these updates across the network to remove the DRM software?
These retail models that have had the updates pushed to them, are these the same updates that developers retail models would have? What I mean is, are there any Xbox Ones with full removal of DRM up and running behind closed doors?

The guys Xbox One that bricked, it was definitely "connected" to the internet by wifi/ethernet cable?
 
Its fine, DRM has been removed along with 24 hour check ins. You just have to download an update every other day. Its fine *wink*

The truth is, Sony was probably still working on the OS two weeks before the PS4 launched as well. Hence the huge day one patch for them as well. I'm very concerned for both consoles, but for different reasons. Some remnants of the DRM may still be embedded in the system for the xbox one and since we haven't seen the UI on the PS4 it may suck or be buggy. Glad I'm sitting this next gen out for now

Personally, I don't believe there are any more "ass storms", but there's still two weeks left and anything can happen I guess...

We don't really know fully about either console in this respect. The most information we have at the moment is that it's about 3 minutes from disc insert of Killzone to playing the game on the PS4 and 25 minutes from disc insert to playing Call of Duty: Ghosts on Xbox One.

We'd need to know if CoD:G is the same on the PS4 before we have an definite comparisons but as it stands now it's a bit worrisome.
 
I guess we should all wait for the 22nd to get real clarification. MS have really not helped themselves in this situation though, they can't even get a straightforward answer out about anything to do with this which leaves the whole situation in doubt.
 
so... the game won't run because the OS build isn't up to date... this mean that if someone doesn't update the OS, he can't play offline. and this mean a period online check.

Woah! 25 minutes before you can even play after disc insert?! I tend to hang around gaming forums a bit and I've never even heard of this before. I can only imagine how many casuals will be pissed on launch day when they find out about all the patches and installs. Especially the ones that have shit internet or no internet at all.
 
Is 'M$' really bannable? I see lots of people talking as though it is but I don't think I've ever seen anybody actually banned for it.

I thought yosp tweeted it should be the same for every game unless the developer messed up.

I guess if it's instant on ps4 and 30 minutes on xbox one it will be pretty telling.

Crazy how all this unfolded right when I went to bed.

But seriously, 25 minutes for installation? Very often I can download whole games from Steam in that time. Are Blu-ray drives really that slow when you copy data from them?
 
These type of threads are the reason I'm ok with waiting 6 months-1year before I pick up a next gen console. Should probably just build a new PC tbh.

The boxes have been ready but the OS is not. In comes the giant day 1 update to bring those boxes up to speed.

I guess the DRM was all built in to their OS and not in the hardware. At least that's how I'm reading his statement. After the consumer backlash, MS had to go back to the drawing board and drastically makeover their system software. Sounds like they're tinkering with it until the very last minute too. Lots of Beta testers on the 22nd.

25 minutes to install a game... This is why I'm holding off until next year. The original plan for the Xbox One was that every disc would act as an install, yet they leave it at such slow speeds.

Baffling.

Probably a tale from my ass but I can imagine the process of installing an image on every XB1's HDD is a long process so, at production stage that limits your console production output. In order to speed up the process, you can just produce the console with a loader program (probably the underlying hypervisor) and let the end user do the system installation. Production time earnt = less money spent producing the same amount of machines plus you can update the initial image further on so people won't buy consoles with obsolete firmwares full of security holes...
