We already have 5 broken consoles and it hasn't even officially launched yet. I'm starting to panic because if this is too widespread it will put Playstation down for good.

This happens in every launch. what is the rate of broken machines? 5-8%?

Not really surprised - Microsoft went the ultra safe route with having the power brick outside it again this gen; Sony made it look more appealing by not doing that but also probably increasing the chances of it bricking at some point.

Uhm.. to be honest this seems more like a software problem rather than a hardware problem.. to me at least.

I make the switch from MS to Sony, and this happens. Hopefully they just bricked it because they are playing 2 days early.

That's WAY too high even for a launch. If it's like that something is terribly wrong with the PS4.

i remember a square trade warranty survey saying that defective rate for PS3 was about 3%. RROD for 360 was around 16. Its going to be higher at laugh. 5% doesn't seem that out of question?

That fire sauce is fuckin shit up, is there an option to not update to fire sauce on release day? Sounds like that's the bigger problem

With streaming being ubiquitous, failures are ever apparent.

This may be the craziest system launch.

Xbox one should be fun too.

While I don't think this will be a widespread issue (it sounds like a firmware update issue) I am rather worried about my launch console. Been saving up all year for the thing. I've sacrificed a lot of other things I could have bought.

Now that there are 5, we still don't know how many units are out in the wild to see if this is an issue. We also don't know if there are more since not everyone runs to social media to report such things.

I am still confident that this will not be a wide-spread issue. For those saying the Taco Bell Ones are because of a 1st batch, retailers have had units sitting in warehouses for almost 2 weeks now.

Isolated or not, man if my PS4 bricked day one I'd be pissed. Here's to hoping this is not a pattern.

Man if you got it by eating a couple soft tacos I wouldnt be sweating the loss. Just a fucked up situation, but that's what happens when you run for the border while thinking outside the box.

I...don't...understand this post but it made some jokes that seem awesome

Is there a list of broken PS4's and the conditions in which they broke? We know the OP's broke during a firmware update on the BF4 disk. What about the others?

I am kind of surprised at the surprise shown in this thread. My Wii U was broken from the box - the gamepad wouldn't sync at all - and Nintendo is known for quality hardware (in general). I from now on will expect launch issues.

Of course, if this becomes another RROD, then we really have problems

if in a week we tally up every person who has a broken ps4 and every person who has a working ps4, im sure you'll find that its not that bad. that being said, i remember when my 80gig PS3 died after 9 months and Sony wouldn't fix it without a receipt even tho i believe the 80gig hadn't even been on the market for a year, and it sucks. 500$ paper weight, bullfuckingshit

silly me for thinking the console would last atleast a year.

Over a long enough time frame sure, but for a launch window that's extremely bad. I doubt it'll be that bad.

Just got back from Target and finally trying a demo unit and touching that beautiful controller and I see this thread. Sucks that this is happening, but I wouldn't worry about a widespread problem yet.

I wonder what console the journalists got... retail or debug? I am guessing debug so they can get direct capture...

Even if it is a really low fail rate, this kinda news is chilling so early on.
