I was watching people cover the solos of Estranged by Guns n Roses on Youtube. Just going through the list of videos when I saw this thumbnail of a skinny white cunt holding a black Gibson Les Paul and wearing and Iron Maiden t-shirt . And I'm like "Holy fuckballs! That's me!!". Seeing myself from 10 years ago playing guitar in my room annoying everyone else in the house lol.

But the nostalgia hit doesn't end there.... as I was watching myself play guitar (poorly....) I remembered that I composed a piece of music which I uploaded to YouTube around the same time. So I searched for it and sure enough it was there!

Has anyone else ever had such a strong nostalgic hit they had to sit down lol?

I've been in the EXACT same boat, OP. I used to post hella guitar covers on youtube when I was in middleschool/highschool, like well over a decade ago. Sometimes i'll stumble upon my own videos (oddly enough, while signed in on a different account) and I can't even recognize that skinny guitar-wielding nerd from 2008 haha. Despite the low audio recording quality and edgy/cringy moments, it's a good feeling. Very nostalgic times indeed. It's a humbling to see my musical progress in that way, especially since I've produced a few albums since then.

whenever i come across my old MIDI songs i composed on one of the trash dumpsters of a computer i owned when i was a teenager. just the sound of the midi files takes me back. i wrote hundreds of those things and can remember certain events in my life when hearing them.

Last time I also ran into some old videos of me playing Halo. Halo is fucking dead now. I wish I had spent the time learning to play the guitar instead.
I am learning to play now. Finding that 1 hour a day is tougher than it sounds.

I suppose we see things differently, but I consider 10 years to be a pretty decent chunk of time.

I don't play guitar anymore, I've moved on to piano. It is difficult to find the time. Especially when you have a full time job and 100 other responsibilities. Try your hardest to practice every day, It'll pay off in the end.

How old are you now vs the video?

I just don't think 20 year old me would look back at 10 year old me and be nostalgic. I'd be happy to be 20 and not 10. 30 year old me looking at 20 year old me, I think I'd feel like 20 year old me was a dumb shit. 40 year old me looking back at 10 year old me, THAT is nostalgic. Like, holy shit, kids b-day parties, GI JOEs, Star-Wars-figures-that-are-somehow-just-as-articulated-as-ones-today-even-though-they-can-do-so-much-better-now, etc etc.

I dunno. 10 years just doesn't feel like enough time has elapsed to be nostalgic. Fond, maybe. But again, #nostalgicnazi. You do you.

Some channel uploaded a video of me 10 years ago... i've seen others as well... I pop up now and again.
