First of all, this thread is open to all our friends at Resetera, as Neogaf accepts diverging viewpoints. Recently there has been a surge of activity here, and all these TLOU2 discussions have certainly contributed to the growth of the community.
Now to the main question: are we going to see more Woke Sony in the video game industry or not? Four million copies of TLOU2 sold in three days is a remarkable accomplishment, but all the talk of breaking records stopped soon after that, and as we have seen, sales came to a steep drop by any standard in the following weeks. This suggests huge expenditure on marketing that couldn't sustain sales with positive word of mouth. Now that Spider-Man has replaced TLOU as the main PlayStation franchise in terms of sales, and with God of War soon to follow, is Sony going to rethink its position as an activist company for better business, or will it double down to conform with the current political trends in the United States?
Interested to hear what you think. I don't want to burst any bubbles here because I know a lot of people are happy with the sales of the game, but it is important to consider that companies define success relative to the money they that invest as well as their own internal projections.
