Bought.
  1. Supporting releases like these encourages more releases
  2. Hopefully this widely available release encourages community support, making these even better

If Konami is planning to release more old shit on GOG hopefully they release Snatcher so more people can experience a great visual novel.

Sony just keeps losing more exclusives, even old ones. Now Xbox has nearly the entire collection except 4.

Add in anti-consumer policies and higher game prices, more expensive consoles,it seems PS3 Sony has indeed returned. Haters and fanboys will decline but eventually if you don't check them Sony will run right over your soul and hopes. Treating you less like a real person.

Now is the time for change, demand Sony drop price of Digital PS5 to $299 to match Xbox, remove anti-consumer polices, keep games prices low.

Gamers are Vita, and Vita means life. Because you forgot that you let Sony Kill the Vita instead of working toward the benefit of consumers. Don't let PS3 Sony come back!

They just re-released the old pc versions of MGS1 and 2 so Sony didn't lose anything.

My first MGS experience was the PC port. Wonder how they gonna handle the 2 controller thing. As I recall, you had to play with a gamepad and keyboard.

I bought the PC port of MGS2 Substance and thought the controls were jenky. As I recall, had trouble running the thing on my PC at the time. Hope the GOG version runs well.

the original PC versions of both are pretty bad.

MGS2 was alright, but MGS1 is absolute trash on PC.

so if they didn't fix basically all of it then keep your hands off of these.

on PC it's easy enough to emulate the superior versions of both

These ports games have always been available on PC in some way shape or form for those who want them. Are you dumb?

Garbage port.

Explain please. What's the problem?

Very cool, I've never actually seen this picture or the Twin Towers that were cut.
That pic is from The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2 that was released in 2002. The disc came with Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance in Europe. You can actually view the full 3D model of that and you can fly around.

Makes me recall that GTA3 released around the same time and had 9/11 censorship. They clipped the wings on the planes so people couldn't crash em into buildings. Also I think... they removed the twin towers, or two tall skyscrapers meant to resemble them.

MGS 1+2 are amazing games for many reasons, but if we're talking pure stealth experiences then you can't leave out the original Splinter Cell trilogy.

I've played through Chaos Theory recently and that still holds the crown in console stealth games IMO. But i'd bet that the first 2 haven't aged nearly as well as CT did. I almost want to play them again, but I also don't want to ruin the fond memories I have of them either.

I never got The Document disc when it was available. I bet it's bad ass. I've seen quite a bit of the footage off of YT and what not though.

Didn't they also change the cop cars to less resemble NYPD cars too? And I remember you COULD fly the Dodo around in GTA3, you just had to know the trick to doing it.

There's an old article out there from years back written by the guy who was in-charge on the PC port, but basically they couldn't do a lot of what the PS1 was doing and used a lot of cheap hacks to match the date given to them. They also couldn't get the music engine working so instead they rushed it by downloading a torrent MP3 rip of the PS1 soundtrack and converted that to WAVEs to put in place, it means the soundtrack on PC is missing a lot of cues and there's no boss variant of the Alert theme, etc.

Perhaps. Yeah. It was wild times with the 9/11 censorship back then. I tried For HOURS with my friend to fly that dodo. Couldn't ever make it across the River.

would you know where I can find that article?

How does the Psycho Mantis fight play out in the PC version? I bought it, plan on playing it here in the next week or so, but I was just thinking how unique that fight was and how some of the things that made it so great are only really possible on the console.

None of the fun stuff happens.

Screenshot of MGS2 running with the patch at 1080p downsampled from 8k:

For those wondering, dropping your weapon/cancelling a shot is done by holding L3. Easy enough solution. The only thing I had to do to fix a problem was set my audio output to 24bit/44.1hz, and that was right there in the V's Patch manual as linked to from the audio settings page in case you have specific issues. It's really very little effort to get this working.

I tried MGS1 without any patches and it seems to run fine, although I did just do a quick keyboard control scheme.

Both games would benefit massively from ESRGAN or Gigapixel AI upscaling, but I am not the person for it, because it needs a coder to write a .dll to allow for it if it's even possible. But for anyone who just wants to revisit these classic games, they seem to be perfectly playable.

MGS2S is broken without a fan fix and still not perfect even with it. Without the fan fix fps can drop to single digits (on an i7/1080) when in the tanker with all those marines and presumably other demanding parts of the game, with the fix some effects still need to be turned off because they're broken and cause artifacts (dof or motion blur related, I forget). The fan fix also improves (adds?) controller support with various presets. The fix is also experimental in some ways so may not work equally for all hardware. Gog needs to go back to attempting to fix the oldies hey add, this sucks.

There goes $26.00 I wasn't expecting to spend today. TheMan TheMan is now at the top of my "kill all humans" list.

You can also destroy the gas mask on the statues/busk in the office to defeat Mantis... You could on the PS version anyway so I don't see this being any different.

Remake dreams dead

Well not really. I'd argue this news confirms what that person was saying is true, simply that they likely will announce the remake at a different event, time etc. The fact that they knew about this collection coming to PC likely means it could very much be true.

I don't recall the original rumor about the remake saying it would be announced along the collection, simply that they were all being worked on.

I wonder if this means MGS6 you know release some of the older games and make them the platform to a brand new game?

I've never played the original MGS. I've had s copy of Twin Snakes on Gamecube for years but didn't get around to it. To anyone who's played both: Should I play that or get this PC port of the original?

Definitely the PC port. Twin Snakes was a pretty dismal remake that lost the gritty visual style of the original and changed the music for the worse. The new cinematics were completely out of place and didn't make any goddamn sense for what's otherwise a stealth game. They also added in a lot of the gameplay mechanics from MGS2, like first-person aiming, which fucked up the gameplay since the MGS1 level and encounter designs weren't built for that. Just a ton of poor ideas all around.

The real deal MGS1 is still great, though. PC version is worth playing.

Bought both. Always been curious about the MGS1 PC port, didn't even know it existed until a few years ago, and I missed buying MGS2 before they pulled it from stores.

I came here just to say this.

Good riddance.
