There probably won't be a new game since Ready At Dawn are now owned by Oculus and making VR games. A shame, because, despite it's flaws, the game had potential that a sequel could've maybe realized. The story also starts to pick up right when the game ends.

It has an interesting story, but the gameplay sucks. Wish the sequel comes out from another dev from Sony.

Maybe no new game, but what about The Order 1886: THE DIRECTOR'S CUT???? :messenger_winking_tongue:
unpopular opinion: The Order 1886 was an excellent game.
Why unpopular? Who gives a shit about Metacritic? I absolutely love State of Decay 2 and it also failed at Metacritic.

Does Ready at Dawn own the franchise?

As far as I know, Sony owns the IP (otherwise they wouldn't be the ones renewing the trademark), so in theory, they could let it develop.

From their in-house devs, I would like to see what Bend could do with it. Or maybe one of the smaller studios they acquired.

Does Ready at Dawn own the franchise?
No, Sony does.

However, the first game was considered mediocre by critics and did not sell particularly well, so I don't think Sony will do anything else with it. If they decide to open their insane IP vault to revive some series, it will probably be something that at least at some point actually made them money and resonated very well with the public.

As I already wrote in different topic (probably Bluepoint) if I were a boss of Sony or PlayStation Studios I would try convince Bluepoint to take The Order IP and make two games - remaster/remake of first (reworking strange split in controls, Lycans battles) as a warm up for the team and then a sequel. It would be easier for them to have some base to work with then starting their own IP from scratch. Maybe they could try some collaboration with Ready At Dawn (or at least Ru Weerasuriya and Andrea Pessino but they are now again in charge of the company).

I think that after Uncharted and The Last of Us (at least for now) PlayStation needs something like that.

This game had/has so much potential. You could make it like resident evil but with Werwolfs and vampires.Or you could later change the story by telling the Werwolf side or vampire side.So much potential. The graphics and atmosphere are amazing, could even do a horror game only with the werewolf part like the movie Howl or Twilight Werwolf really suspense scary.

I always thought that Galahad once he got in that nasty fight at the end with Lucan could be cursed since he has no more black water and that he found out black water is vampire blood.

The back story becomes a lot more clearer that the order literally were all servants to vampires, and that who ever was one of the founding members all the way back to King Arthur knew the truth.
I think percivile knew and that's what he wanted to talk to Galahad about since he was working with that Indian girl who ends up helping you.

so much potential to take it to some cool places.

I feel this game is SONY's Fable..

great atmosphere, great art... TERRIBLE WEAK gameplay...

heloooooooooooo moly-moly-Molyneux

why would they need ready at dawn to do so? IP owned by Sony, they can find other competent devs for that

Wtf!? Not even close.. fable played great! The order was dog shit all around.

All I remember from that game is the copy and paste bosses which for a first party full price game is the definition of lazy design.

No it is not a exaggeration. They literally Ctrl C and Ctrl P the boss fights.

Hmm, although I would love for them to do a sequel right now I kinda feel they should hold off until PS6. This would give folks a nostalgic feel for the game and create some hype if they decide to increase the size of the world and it's gameplay. Plus it would probably be a lot easier to recreate that level of detail without the black bars on the PS6. They also could tack on a remaster of the order 1886 to it since it is such a short game. Bluepoint could easily handle the project at that time I think. Bluepoint could easily handle that port and supposed sequel I think at that time.

At this point Sony has so many IPs that their dormant ones are enough to make a publisher one of the biggest in the business. If the industry is truly changing, there's nothing wrong with having recognizable IPs to create content for. Content is king.

It was ahead of its time. People now love cinematic linear games
People loved the first Hellblade just so you know and that was a linear cinematic game. It didn't win awards for nothing.

The difference now is that it's exclusive to Xbox so it's used as a punching bag for quick digs like your post. Oh and the fact that people actually like Hellblade whereas The Order was just flat out terrible.

No need to hide your console warring behind sly comments, just say it out loud next time. The Order was bad, Hellblade is good.

the story and world was very interesting but yeah gameplay fucking sucked ass. its a shame a sequel would have cleared that up and could have been one of sony's big hits.

It's been 6-7 years though? Thats a good long while. And if you market it as something different as in not call it the order since by the end of the game Galahad is not part of the order anymore then people who never played The order:1886 will be excited for something of that nature. Especially if the gameplay looks amazing. Also if they open the trailer up with an actual gameplay of co-op taking down vampires and werewolfs that could have a big impact similar to how gears did when it was first announced or shown for co-op.

Honestly? The setting, everything about this was great, except the gameplay. They could still do something with it tbh.
If anything, if they want to stop making games based on this, a TV show based on the IP could be amazing for them.

Well the secret ending at the end of the credits shows Galahad in London with the moon to his back listening to the radio not wearing his Order uniform. Like he knows what the real war is, and has become some kind of vigilante that will now look for east indian trading company news, and fight the werewolves which he now knows are guard dogs for the vamps.

Wait, why are people bashing the gameplay?

As short as linear it might have been, the actual gameplay was/is pretty good. The shooting was satisfying and visceral. Basically Gears of War but with different setting.

Even though it was 6-7 years ago it is still a last gen game and we are getting cross-gen games next year from Sony. I'd be more excited if they had more interesting locations to visit in the game. Better enemy designs and fights would be nice since I hated fighting werewolves in the last game. I do wonder since the game was viewed as beautiful but mediocre if it would work better as a launch game.

This game was murdered by the fucking youtubers. The gameplay was great and is a fun game. Fuck youtubers.
The gaming media murdered it too because it was too short (7-10 hours, as Uncharted and Gears games were back then) and because it was 'too linear' (meaning it wasn't an open world).

I think other criticism was more legit, like repetitive bosses with too much QTE gameplay, an a bit too high cutscenes vs gameplay time ratio, or forcing you to start a level with certain weapons and some level design. A coop would have been welcome too.

But I think the world building, character design, story, cutscenes, visuals, OST, audio design, acting/motion caption/dubs, weapon design and gameplay (even if I'd reduced the QTEs and would have improved boss fights) were great.

unpopular opinion: The Order 1886 was an excellent game.
It had a few flaws and room for improvement, but I loved it. I'd love to see a sequel, the IP has a lot of potential.

I was thinking about this game after hellblade 2 trailer as order 1886 was first game so close to cinematic level (very good pbr, dof, antialiasing, image stability) of course limited by ps4 power. Sad Sony haven't bought Ready at down back in the time as I'm curious what they could create targeting similar linear game on ps5 (but maybe this time lest qt and more shooting;))

Nah, it was murdered more by Metacritic and reviewers just like most movies that fans seem to like. I saw Ghostbusers:afterlife, and for me it was a heart warming experience. The film community hates it because of all the nastalgia, but the average movie person just wants a good time at the movies. Which is why people still go and see dumb shit like Fast films. People want to be entertained. And Afterlife is a great family movie that everyone can enjoy, and the parents especially who have fond memories of the original.

The order was hyped up too much by Sony because games like Uncharted 4 were having issues, so they needed a big AAA style game. The order in the looks department fits that bill. Issue is Ready at Dawn takes control away from the player way too often. Which makes a uneven experience. Despite me owning it and liking it, it has issues for sure. Too much QTE stuff, and boss battles were just QTE events with free camera.

So a 7 grade or a C to me is adequate. But a lot of people who were wowed with how it looked were let down when you watched a lot more than you played. So that overshadowed the gameplay even though gameplay is actually pretty great, there's just not enough of it, and there is no replay incentive.

So it def fell short to what it was hyped up to be. But the base thats there is still better than half the stuff the industry comes up with that never delivers. The characters, story, setting, and visuals all were great. To me I put this up there with Quantum Break. Tons of potential marred by specific design choices.

The problem was that it released at full price when it's a 5 hour game plus the fact it didn't have a multiplayer game. Remember the time games would be trashed without a trendy multiplayer mode just there? That's why we got stuff like 2013's Tomb Raider multiplayer mode.

This game should've been released at a price like Miles Morales or something.

It LOOKED cool, but what's the guy actually doing in this video? Running into a tiny room, popping behind cover and vaguely shooting at the enemy. Maybe a precanned one-button take down. That's about it.

You just described any cover based shooter. If you don't like any of them, then I can see why you didn't like the gameplay in The Order.
