Boo-urns!

I don't even need better graphics per say I just want most games to run at 60fps and/or have a much cleaner image via higher resolution or AA/SS.

The problem is most people wouldn't notice a big enough difference to pay any extra money, most people's eyes are untrained to see all this bullshit, maybe they will tell you the 60fps side of a 30 vs 60 comparison is preferable but they don't know why and GAF posts in fidelity vs perf threads indicate the majority of people here prefer a motion clarity and responsiveness increase over a sharpness/detail one.

I'd be happy if they just updated it with enough power to hold a solid 30 fps while displaying 1080p resolution. Handheld mode doesn't really bother me, but playing a game like Xenoblade 2 on my tv is disappointing. It's never been anything I would lose my shit over, but an upgrade would be nice.

They sell everything they can produce, basically printing money at this point, and securing production capabilities for more modern hardware will be a big issue for another 2 years at least.
Go figure.

I hope that's a big fat lie. I'm already not using my Switch because it's so hopelessly outdated next to my PS5 (sure, I'll dig it out of storage once BotW2 is released, but I'm not buying anything else for it anymore), so still using it in 2027 is just lol.

No shit, why would they make a new system when the current one just keeps selling and selling?

Luckily you don't represent the market lol. Pokémon sold about 1.5 mil copies in Japan alone in 3 days.

Consumers give fck all about this nerdy shit.

Would be dumb to release the successor now with
a) Switch printing money
b) Covid/Chip shortage still on going

also makes me hopeful, that their next console might be more powerful the more time they wait.

Probably 2 years till next console 3 more years on shelves, after that, odds of dethroning the ps2 are pretty good

Switch being halfway through its life doesn't really imply we won't be getting a new system to me.

They can keep Switch going after they release a new console.

But I guess they have incentive to just keep going with the Switch for as long as the chip-shortage lasts.

Sure, wanting games to not look like absolute garbage on my 4K TV is "nerdy shit". This console can't even do 1080p most of the time.
Buy a PC and play the games at 4k on Yuzu and Ryujinx, people have been doing that since last year. You have the option, the option is there ... Take it or keep complaining, your choice.

That's my interpretation. Successful Nintendo hardware usually gets a couple bonus years of software support.

Only real takeaway here is that Furukawa believes Switch demand will remain strong in the near future where past consoles have seen a steep drop off.

A lot of people care bro. The Wii also sold like crazy, but had a terrible attach rate.

I'm gonna assume you aren't including games that were packed-in with the system at one point because otherwise that's incredibly wrong.

It sure did for millions it was a wii sports (and maybe one other game) box

Switch was what, 4-5 year old tech when it launched? I was shocked how bad the hardware was back then, and remember thinking they'd regret not going Tegra 2. Just goes to show Nintendo knows its audience and I don't know shit.

No point interrupting the Switch train until chips are available and they can actually get units out there. I'd literally rather they just wait than watch scalpers take over a small market.

As others have said already, they will continue selling Switch for 1-2 years after the new system is out also. Especially the Switch Lite.

Not happy about it but I don't blame them in the slightest.

Thing prints money for them.

Incredible how much mileage are they getting from 2015 silicon.

We might see the biggest generational upgrade for a nintendo console with the switch2.

This doesn't mean what a lot of you think it means. They could release a Switch 2 / Pro this year and what he said is still true.

Same. I think Nintendo's strategy is pretty genius, using cheap outdated hardware and making games with great art style but technically not very demanding. But then you have some games that seem like they're asking for a little more than the hardware can provide. Would be nice to have at least enough to run their games at 1080p 60 FPS

I think the chip shortage has them wanting to extend the life of the Switch. The console still selling a lot. They are still selling tons of first party games. No reason to launch its successor.

They could still release a new one.
The life cycle of a console ends when it stops being produced, not when a new model comes out. Switch came out in 2017, but the 3DS wasn't discontinued until 2020.

But either way I don't see Nintendo in any hurry. The hardware and software continues to sell great, and as proven by Pokemon Arceus visuals and performance are basically irrelevant for Nintendo games to perform well in sales and reviews, I also imagine with every passing year the console becomes cheaper to make, while the selling price remains the same.

Well it was a pretty big hardware upgrade from the 3DS. And handheld is where it's at for N these days.
