The fiernds we lust along the way

Overall, this was a heart-warming thread in general despite it went into a slightly off direction. Wanna thank my dear BigBooper BigBooper for this brilliant thread, and he would look perfect with a tag of "Lusts for his fiernds".

a thread like this was always gonna bring up ethomaz ethomaz a lot, the intention of the thread wasn't for that but when a major player on here gets banned it will be brought up.

i thought ethomaz ethomaz was a decent guy and a few interactions with him but he warring at times was ridiculous and can understand the ban. After seeing the stats its very understandable now to.

on topic a bit more its really sad when we have gamer friends who are no longer active. I still have a fair few friends on Xbox who haven't been active in years but i hope one day they will jump back on

They're on PS4/5 now.

/s

Hope they're doing well! Also I think permabans should only be for extreme insults, extreme antagonization, extreme bad behavior. For console warring it should only be timed, with 6-12 months max.

But hey, that's only my opinion.

They ain't on PlayStation either, i have there tags on there to.

i think shit posting in threads should defiantly be perminatly bannable. Look at JR for example, got a ban and got it overturned and continued in the exact same mindset he was in befor his ban. I know its only one example but its the first i seen unbanned from a perma ban. We have lost some good people on here due to warring i will agree that but it is good to open up threads and see genuine discussions on games by people who love them and not just shitting on them because they ain't on their brand of choice.

And you opinion is valid also

It's like having a football forum, you really can't totally suppress the fanbases as they'll eventually flee to other platforms. Also if this forum was about cellphones you would expect much worse wars between iOS/Android owners. It's just human nature, we're born in a competitive mindset collectively.

I agree you cant suppress it but that's what warnings are for, do you remember thelastword thelastword used to come into ever Xbox thread and post a shit ton about how PlayStation was better and would just turn the threads into console warring. While some of his points the odd time were valid the site is much better off for him not being here. I would say the same for abody who would derail PS threads.

The system works, get a warning, get a temp bad and if carry on you have to go.

it works the same on football forums, if you on a Manchester utd forum and Liverpool fans jump in and shit post they deserve to go

White knighting? I'm sorry if you get the impression that I'm defending moderators here. As I have already mentioned, moderators aren't perfect and any fuck up on their part us a conversation between them, administrative team and the recipient of the ban. If you don't think ethomaz ethomaz deserved the ban, then PM @EviLore and lodged a complaint. You can also bitch about the "transparency" to him as well.
Nah, BadStory stood by while a "preferred" member falsely accused me of political wrongthink - branding me a "Putin apologist" and coward when I had previously said I hated Putin - and did nothing. Even though this is defamatory and abusive per section 2a of the TOS:
You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use NeoGAF to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing
(Actually, doing nothing would have been fine; he made it worse: Imagine saying "I hate Sony," and then getting accused of being a Sony apologist and coward. After logic and reason get you nowhere with this arrogant prick who doubles down on his defamatory logical fallacies, you begin to mock him. Then you get in trouble. This is unequal and biased application of the TOS. It's clearly a top-down issue.)

And yes, defending "we're better off without you" as a fine explanation for why someone was permabanned is clearly white-knighting. Ass-kissing, really. Are you applying for the job?

In a forum where free speech is valued, banning someone should not be easy; it should be hard. It should be an absolute last resort, and should be done in such a way that leaves no room for reasonable doubt or conjecture. From this standpoint, "we're better off without you" might as well be "Nyah!" It communicates the exact same level of infantile hubris.

Faust Faust , I respect you attempting to explain what happened, but the lengthiness of your post speaks volumes about the confusion surrounding this issue. And the point Shmunter Shmunter made still stands: moderation is a black box mystery to everyone outside the box. Stating that somebody has X number of this, that, or whatever does absolutely zero to resolve this. Actually, it makes it worse: now we all want to know what exactly each one of those other things were, and if *they* were justified.

Just saying "console warring is not subjective" does not make it so. And giving a few examples, but then saying the list is not exhaustive, ironically makes it seem more subjective, not less.

I personally like this forum. I don't want to see it become another resetera or twatter. We sound the alarm because we care. Subjectivity, inconsistency, and now hubris are red flags that signal we are well on the way downhill.

It took less than 10 minutes to deliberate on this one. But hey you where always known for... Russian into things.

The thing with free speech is their are consequences for the things you say. An open forum is good but it doesn't mean you can say what you want, what would be next? Saying hateful things to other people on here? Threats of violence? I mean its free speech but there has to be consequences and warning and bans are justified.

How many users that were banned with no clear reasoning given in the "ban" page were actually defended for consecutive days?

I am seeing people here defending ethomaz since this thread was open, but do they stand up for everyone? In the last 5 days a bunch of people was banned and I only see people defending ethomaz.

eN2xFln.png

Look... I have nothing against ethomaz. I have seen him trolling and heating up some discussions involving Xbox or PlayStation, but I never really cared. I actually think he also did some nice posts along the way, and some terrible ones. But can we just move on? I'm sure he will be fine. And eventually, if he wishes, he might even come back with a different account, who knows... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I hope he gets back at some point but as they said with his stats it was more than enough chances, as for the other 4 we dont know their stats but it could be the same and they got to the end of the line with the mods

console warriors getting banned ALWAYS have their warrior allies second guessing mods hoping they'll get reinstated.

Think of it like the movie 300. Brave in big numbers when they can take turns backing each other up. But when they start getting chopped down, the collective fan warrior battalion crumbles.

And the past year or two has been a huge purge of console warriors. Amazingly, PC gaming can have the best specs (always have the opportunity too assuming you spend some decent coin to get the latest gear). I don't think I remember one permabanned member being a PC master race elitist when you'd think if there's one gamer who can gloat the most with peak visuals, cheap games, free online etc… but the average PC rig gamer doesn't seem to give a shit. When was the last time you saw a forum of PC gamers hit each other over the head baiting each other whose got the better GPU brand? Never seen it here.

Being a pc gamer is not only the best, it's the most virtuous. We can all aspire to be pc gamers, how can we aLl become so worthy!?!

Ever heard of VFXVeteran who spends his life trolling console threads ? There are plenty of PCMR warriors and plenty of them were banned multiple times here... Platform wars happen on every platform. Like for sports team or anything else.

But yeah, average PC gamer don't care about that just like average console gamer doesn't either. That much is true.

This is old news. I got threadbanned from the Will Smith thread for stunning parody that went unappreciated. I'm still licking my salted wounds like a mangy stray.

On topic: console wars are fucking stupid. I want the entire industry to flourish, competition and all. I feel like if you have ample time to champion a piece of plastic, there are probably other areas of your life that desperately need attention.

Ban discussion aside, If we're pouring out tales about loss and grief, spare a thought for Manchester United fans like myself.

Absolutely dire times.

Still got his reddish Irish ass on my PSN, seen him making record on GT7 license trials and trying to beat him. :messenger_winking_tongue:
Here I was thinking we could now become neogaf friends, with our own new 2 man crew!

(Difference is I won't get banned every other week) ;)

This could be our march!

Yes, the complete lack of self awareness makes me laugh. :messenger_grinning_smiling:

It's my way of sincerely thanking people for bringing joy to my day.

And the Triggered emojis ? That your way of telling us to watch our backs ? :P

Just making fun of you obviously, but it's also a way to thank you for bringing fun to my day obviously. I don't understand why some people take it so bad. We're not that fragile.

We're talking about video games here, not nuclear weapons. Why so serious ? :messenger_winking:

I'm sure you will endure worse things in your life than a trigger emoji. We're talking about video games here, not nuclear weapons. Why so serious ? :messenger_winking:

All in good fun, but it's a little umm .. odd ? unnerving ? Not sure what the right word is lol, to scroll over to my reaction tab and see a list of Triggered by Rivet emojis :D

He went on twitter and was arguing with a guy who designed the latest Xbox saying it wasn't RDNA2 when the Xbox designer was saying it was. Doesn't get more warrior than that
I remember that like it was yesterday and it still makes me laugh. God bless that blue sister for going into battle.

My cousin and I grew up together and we're very close. We spent countless nights playing couch co-op or staying up late on live. This was until our mid 20's. He lives life as a gay man now and because he is worried that I will find out, we rarely speak. I don't want to out him but I do get the urge just to tell him I already know. I guess I felt that eventually he would just tell me but instead we just never speak anymore. I lost my best friend :(

When I was really young I rapidly built up a huge friend list on PSN. I don't even know why. I guess people just really found me a joy to play with in LittleBigPlanet 1 and 2, Red Dead Online, and whatever Battlefield games I had on the PS3 - as those were the games I played most (like, 90% of the time).

I was sifting through my list of friends the other night and realized so many had not logged in in years. Close to a hundred had not been on since around the launch of the PS4, for example.

But you know what really made me happy? There was a girl from Spain who I played a lot of LittleBigPlanet 1 and 2 with, but who had not logged on in years. I fired up Sackboy on my PS5 to try once again to power through to the end, and she out of the blue sent me a message after not having been online in at least five years asking me if I wanted to play Sackboy with her. That was awesome. And just like back in the day, we just vibed and sync'd up gameplay wise like we hadn't lost a beat.

I also reconnected with a good friend I made playing a MMO years back recently. Just happened to be playing the same game using the character names we had back in the day. I was like "Hey, are you XXXX from game YYYY?" and he was like "YES you bastard I remember you!". Etc.

" and a lot of Brazil politics posts (I cant read Spanish but could tell it had to do with politics or elections etc..)"

Brazilian people right now :

EDIT: so I don't post just for the lulz. When I was around 13 I started playing online a lot with CoD 4 on the PS3. I made friends online when i joined a team, and we got quite close with a few of them, so much so that we started meeting IRL at Paris games week for example. There were 2 of them (2 brothers) that i got closer to. I went to their house, on vacation with them and vice versa. But then we all started playing less because of college and other priorities. Now we talk occasionnaly but we're not as close. I got to a point where I kinda left online gaming because I didn't really had anyone to play with in the little time I had left for gaming. But a year ago, I got one of my architecture school buddy (not really a close friend we saw each other at parties) hired where i work, and it turns out he games quite a lot and invited me on his team discord where I found new cool dudes to play with ! So I got back in the T-bagging business.

I'd just like to say that I hope the moderation here isn't like how it is on Era. I'm never getting over the fact that I was banned for two months over literally just quoting someone in a Star Citizen thread and saying "you again?" to them 😭. And no, I'm not being disingenuous and leaving important context out lol

We are absolutely not like them. Any and all bans are discussed before hand and usually only after any and all previous attempts to correct the problem have been tried. Unless of course certain lines are crossed such as blatant racism.

Good to know! I honestly got so used to the feeling of walking on eggshells so it feels kind of weird here lol
