Not to mention if you're making "Fable", that original design doc is basically multiple times the scope of Elder Scrolls. So good luck not letting feature creep set in. Actually, you don't have to worry about feature creep if you're going strictly by the doc, because it leaves no known video game feature out of the project. The fact Peter convinced thousands of adults and the biggest company in the world that such a thing was even remotely plausible is amazing. Go read some of the original interviews about the project. If you're a big wig at Playground, you're probably riding pretty high on the last decade. Thinking that your deft abilities as a big wig guided Horizon to the wild success that it's found. You're gonna look at that pitch and say "I can pull it off. All of it".

said, Fable has always had diversity. Diversity isn't the issue. Forced diversity is the issue. We don't know enough about the game to speak on the forced diversity aspect.Also, Fable is a fantasy game in a fantasy setting. It isn't a Kingdom Come Deliverance type game which went for a more historical narrative.

To get on topic I would love some news. All the *Fable* games are flawed sure, but they have interesting ideas and aren't a copy/paste of the usual. I wish it worked out more often but whatever, at least they try.

Yeah, I can't fault Molyneux for trying new things, however dumb and impractical they are. He was passionate about giving a new vision to players.
For instance, in Fable 2, the co-op has a fixed camera following both players even though they're on separate screen. His justification was that he wanted co-op to feel like it was a team effort and for the players to always be able to see each other. It ended being fucking dumb and ruining co-op because the camera sucked, but hey, he tried lol.

Those two should be all they need.
Had they just focus on pumping out a decent single player Fallout or Elder Scroll game at the beginning than they would have been released and each one of those games would make Microsoft way more successful by themselves compared to them trying to pump out a bunch of mid titles that don't even end up being good or selling well.

I played Fable 2 as a morbidly obese woman with a beard. I bought and ate every pie I could find to pack on the pounds. And I beat any of my husbands who dared to comment on my appearance.
Really hope they don't force us to play as a pre-defined character for this one. So far all the footage has featured our favorite heroine.

What's likely to happen is the team working on this game will be mostly laid off in the rumored Q1 layoffs, the rest will be moved to other teams, and the game will finally be canceled after like 12 years of sort of but not really being developed

Big budget, years of development hell, and for a series that has sold a total of 7-9 million (at best), with the last entry being years ago, and also received very poorly. Most of the people that knew about Fable, and enjoyed it years ago, have moved on, or there's just not enough of them to keep this game alive.

We always knew it was a western AAA game and was going to have ugly manly women. It's kind of on brand.
I'd be more shocked if this wasn't weirdly designed, overly colorful slop with quippy dialouge every 5 minutes when it ships.
What I really wonder about is how many professional reviews will say "return to form" for the Fable series when this releases in 2027.

Diversity is not the problem. Sony first party studios have diversity and still make an amazing game, most Playstation top sellers are Sony first party games. The problem is when you only think of diversity and loose track of making a good game like what happened in Avowed.
