Zelda Ocarina of Time remake announced for Switch 2

sometimes it's wild how little sense can be made on this forum.

you haven't seen the game, why would you assume it could run on a Sw1?

Because he's just making shit up to rationalize his priors.

Just the split second that we've seen from the game is enough to tell that this was created with the Switch 2 in mind, unless you think Nintendo created all those highly detailed textures fully intending for them to look like a blurry smear on the OG Switch.

It's outsourced isn't it? Would be a disservice to a legendary title like OoT but the Link model looks a bit generic and they just lazily copied the BotW font, which to me doesn't exactly scream A-Team

All the Zelda remasters are partially or entirely outsourced and they are all marred by issues, some minor and some bigger. I have only one wish for an OoT remake: that it's developed entirely in-house with original key creators closely supervising. If they, for whatever reason, can't do that (even though Square Enix shows how with the FF7 remake) then they shouldn't touch it

Nintendo is so fucking frustrating as a fan.
WTF are Wind Waker HD & Twilight Princess HD? Also both the Metroid Primes 2 & 3? No one wants to hold onto their WiiUs anymore to play these dumb asses. Not a soul prefers to rent a game when we can own it FITFO bitches!
Do you just love getting scammed? They'd probably price WW and TP HD at $40 each. You can just download the originals which are better anyway (though I suppose TP isn't on NSO yet)

2026 ends in 6 months...no gameplay?
They won't show us gameplay. They will announce release date and charge 90 Euros for it. But you don't actually get the game, you just have to give them that money for the sake that they remade it internally
and they should be paid for it. What you do get, is an email from Nintendo telling you thank you for giving them money and while the remake exists, they decided not to release it to the public.

While i'm actually just joking and I love Nintendo, that said, in our current day and age, I believe that there is no limit to Nintendo's greed and abuse of a loyal fanbase.

I mean FF7 Remake was announced in 2015 without gameplay and didn't release till 2020 so personally I'll take this alternative. Would you rather wait a couple more months to see it or five more years to play it?

Yeah it's weird. The style reminds me of Links's awakening remake style.
I personally like this art direction its just most people online seem hypocritical and full of shit. Its all ok if papa Nintendo does it......in other words alot of those UE zelda demos in reality actual looked good.

Some of you really live in a parallel universe...
You are selectively bolding. MK World IMO is a crap game, but even if I loved it like Double Dash I would still be able to acknowledge that unlike MK Wii, MK DS, MK7, MK8, MK8 Deluxe it isn't continue to drive sales of the hardware like those other iterations did for those consoles' entire lifetimes.

That isn't a parallel universe IMO, just reading the room - as Gaf has discussed the game a decent amount - and unless I'm just not seeing the sustained positivity it isn't tracking anywhere close to those other games for being a great MK.

I'm ready for the Zelda: Ocarina of Time marketing.

If they release a commemorative console, I'd buy two Nintendo Switch 2s again, and I'd hack the other one xD.

If they release a collector's edition, I'll look for something like this.

If they release a Lego Zelda: Ocarina of Time set, I'll buy it.

Looking forward to the Malon figure release.

Personally I like SS style but i'm sure the game team knows better.

disagree, he looked like a cartoon in the original -- this is the problem with changing to a more 'realistic" style of course, the same proportions and exaggerations suddenly look deformed even when they looked stylistic in cartoon form.

If you saw just about any classic cartoon character rendered realistic with the same rough proportions as their cartoon form, they'd all look hideous, that's unavoidable. You either don't do the realism thing, or you have to radically redesign him -- since realism like that is a total betrayal of all the original art's hand drawn vision for characters (official booklet, cover, guides, etc) and incompatible anyway.
perhaps but let's give them the benefit of the doubt seeing how we've seen 4 seconds in a trailer

I think you're confusing Nintendo with the others my guy. Nintendo rarely miss their release dates.
I dunno man, remember og botw reveal trailer? , we got date back then too:

Its a remake so in theory should be much easier/faster to make than brand new game, but we didnt even see even small snippets of gameplay, i think no1 will be surprised with 2027 delay, and plenty will be pleasently surprised even if game comes out mid december, we will know in few months 4sure :)

A lot more can happen in a year and a half than about 6 months.

I'd personally be shocked if this was delayed. Not showing gameplay seems more like a choice than anything reflecting where the games at.

Remember that this leaked, I think the reaction to this snippet would be a lot different had that not happened and it was probably planned that way. People would be losing their shit. Instead we all knew it was coming and obviously want more than a simple confirmation. Maybe Nintendo should have adjusted, maybe they figured that most people aren't chronically online looking at rumours though (no idea if these rumours got to the normies).

Because Nintendo have zero track record of making AAA £350M budget games that won't run on the SW1 which is the thing which would prevent it, and because Nintendo in the post Iwata/Miyamoto era has been ran by accountants at the planning stage. it is the reason they didn't launch SW2 with an OLED screen everyone wanted and why they are doing nasty stuff like launching physical releases later than digital to push accountancy strategies rather than gamer enthusiastic strategies.

Had the paid upgrades for botw/totk been ticking along fine and MK world driving SW2 sales like MK8D for SW1 they would have had less reason to push the SW2 only angle, rather than picking up extra sales from SW1's 150m owners along with an upgrade patch cost when they upgraded to SW2 with no downside in that scenario.

That is because Remake was actually outsourced to CyberConnect2, and Square Enix wasn't happy with what they were doing, as it was "too faithful" to the orignal.

They took over main development in 2017 and started from scratch and decided to break it up into 3 games.

Yeah this is among the rare cases and BotW was a massive project.

I was a bit hesitant when I saw Link in the trailer sleeping, it just looked so different from the typical portrayal of him we got for quite a while. If you rotate the angle to where he is vertical, he pretty much looks like Link - although the hairstyle may contribute to him looking different. The style just feels so different, but I'll wait till they show more details since this is barely a glimpse of anything. Since it's slated for 2026, I'm assuming we'll get the full details and gameplay details in a few months.

This looks way more ambitious than I imagined. I wonder if Nintendo is primarily developing this or it is being handled by a different studio like Grezzo (but overseen by Nintendo still in terms of the big decisions). I'm still hoping the main Nintendo team is developing the next iteration of Zelda, but at the same time - Ocarina of Time would also be worth it for so many people.

Link now has a rustic tunic in the beginning, compared to his Heroes Clothes in the original. This means that, like in Twilight Princess and Wind Waker, you have to acquire those somehow.

I think this game is going to be a Resident Evil 2 style reimagining. Same story, told in more detail.

Tears of the Kingdom probably didn't take 6/7 years by the whole team. What we got with that makes much more sense if they split up the team for different games etc.. If the game is going to look like that and be more flushed out then it has to have been in the works for a long long while.

That's why they're ramping up another 20 million units this year. Desperation. It's fun watching people try to spin this.
It is their home console and their handheld in one, and it is only just year two in the market, wouldn't having significantly less production than that be a bigger problem? Especially with parts costs as they are and at risk of rising, delaying production could end up more costly; especially with the hardware pricing being subsidized in their most successful market - Japan where it is selling best - so IMO it is still a Hail Mary pass in the rest of the world where the hardware price is higher and the console lacks a MK8D, yet.

The Zelda movie will be in Cinema mid 2027… Nintendo is smart enough to release the Game before the Movie arrives

If Links Awakening is any indicator, they won't change much from the core gameplay. Just a really shiny coat of paint.

I wonder if that will be enough though. Too early to call with zero shown.

Still hyped as fuck though.

Obviously hard to read too much into the overall art direction based on one scene of link sleeping in the dark….but so far this seems to be exactly what I'd wanted.

Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask were dark/moody games held back by the graphical limitations of the time. This looks like it remains faithful to that unique atmosphere with modern graphics and obviously they'll redesign plenty of elements. I cannot fucking wait. I don't think I've ever been more excited for a game.
