Or is it just one of Adam's balls in my throat?
Been replaying after it received the 60 fps patches on PS5, got the platinum last night (600th platinum!).
The main story was actually very captivating, as Ubi was able to create the vivid and memorable characters of Arno and Elise. They kept me wondering and eager to proceed the story to see how the entanglements unfold. This is honestly so fresh, I barely cared about any AC characters since the Origins (maybe except Kasandra) as they were all written so shallow and dull.
Paris is a hell of parkour playground, you can definitely feel Ubi's ambition in this one. After all the technique issues getting fixed, parkour in Paris is as smooth as silk - all the architectures are well calculated and placed - letting you seamlessly hop high and low with the most fluid and diverse animations in the whole franchise, on Paris's rooftop, while the huge revolutionary crowds are marching, protesting, and clashing on the streets, I surely felt like a god damn "Nothing is true, everything is permitted"Assassin Master.
Not only parkour, but the combat is also exactly how you should play like an assassin: Hide in the shadows, use your various gadgets and techniques to stealthily take down enemies, and remember brutal force gets you nowhere - close combat with 3+ mobs and you'll be stuck in an arduous slog. Ubi claimed that AC Mirage and Naoe were going back to the root assassin's gameplay loop, but they never were. I had absolutely no problems rushing into crowds and chopping every enemy in these later games.
The game could easily be a 9/10 when all the bugs are fixed, and you are playing on the main missions. For completionists for the platinum tho, that's a complete story; the filler collectibles are truly mindless and useless, we all saw the insane map icons of the game before.
But I still praise Ubi for this one, as they were still able and willing to create gorgeous women in their game at the time.
