Got AC Unity platinum last night - great classic Assassin Creed experience when Ubi did most things right

Or is it just one of Adam's balls in my throat?
Been replaying after it received the 60 fps patches on PS5, got the platinum last night (600th platinum!).

The main story was actually very captivating, as Ubi was able to create the vivid and memorable characters of Arno and Elise. They kept me wondering and eager to proceed the story to see how the entanglements unfold. This is honestly so fresh, I barely cared about any AC characters since the Origins (maybe except Kasandra) as they were all written so shallow and dull.

Paris is a hell of parkour playground, you can definitely feel Ubi's ambition in this one. After all the technique issues getting fixed, parkour in Paris is as smooth as silk - all the architectures are well calculated and placed - letting you seamlessly hop high and low with the most fluid and diverse animations in the whole franchise, on Paris's rooftop, while the huge revolutionary crowds are marching, protesting, and clashing on the streets, I surely felt like a god damn "Nothing is true, everything is permitted"Assassin Master.

Not only parkour, but the combat is also exactly how you should play like an assassin: Hide in the shadows, use your various gadgets and techniques to stealthily take down enemies, and remember brutal force gets you nowhere - close combat with 3+ mobs and you'll be stuck in an arduous slog. Ubi claimed that AC Mirage and Naoe were going back to the root assassin's gameplay loop, but they never were. I had absolutely no problems rushing into crowds and chopping every enemy in these later games.

The game could easily be a 9/10 when all the bugs are fixed, and you are playing on the main missions. For completionists for the platinum tho, that's a complete story; the filler collectibles are truly mindless and useless, we all saw the insane map icons of the game before.

But I still praise Ubi for this one, as they were still able and willing to create gorgeous women in their game at the time.

I played this entire game in French with subtitles because I couldn't deal with the British accents lol. My theory is they did it because these games are mostly made by French Canadians, and they hate the French French accent :].

Also the tech stuff they did was pretty amazing. Those crowds, plus this was I think the first ever AAA gpu driven game, which explains why it was so buggy at launch.

Loved the game and beat it on PS4 after many patches. Was dealing with some shit with a girl at the time and the ending fucking destroyed me due to too many feelings and emotional shit going on. Beautiful game and shame that Ubi got scared by pushing visuals and coming back to black box mission design. Oh, well thats what happens sadly.

Always funny how hated games come to be appreciated later on.

I think Unity was pretty bad, but it did have some good things like the incredible art direction and high-quality voice acting. The cutscenes and facial animations were also good, something I cannot say of modern AC games since Odyssey.

I haven't made it to this game yet as I'm still on number three but out of all of them this is the one I'm looking forward to the most of the games I have yet to play in the series. It looks so cool.

It's the pinnacle of the classic AC fomula when everything was patched and fixed.

Black Flag was a lot more fun but as a Pirate/Naval game specifically. (As a Assassin game, not so much)

I dont understand the revisionist history on this game. It was one of the most bloated games I had ever played and made many design choices that were blatantly designed to push you towards microtransactions.

For the record, it wasn't terrible.

Unity and Syndicate both had the multiple ways to assinate a target which was awesome and was a damn shame it wasn't repeated in later games.

Other than that Unity was bloated. They mostly wasted the southern part of france. I wasnt down with many of the gameplay changes.
