Crazy Taxi gameplay video (4 minutes)

Give it.

I want it now.

NOW!
i want GIF

I'm very excited for this, I have minor niggles but for the most part I really like what I see, I hope the meta progression is good so its worth buying at launch.

If its just gonna be something to mess about with for a couple of hours I'll wait for a sale.

I really like the rendering style actually, if all the original game music is present that'll be a nice bonus.

I used to go to this independent games shop in a market when I was a boy, the two smelly fat nerd owners let me play their Dreamcast.

I had to endure so much bullshit from them to have a go on it, these guys were the embodiment of this image:

Honestly, it seems like today's kids are primed for arcade-style games at this point. Games with a repeating loop are all the rage; look at the most-played games lists. Put 15 or 20 taxis out there and have a survival of the fittest mode, though they need to add power-ups or attacks or something, because some of the best players could play this game for hours.

all they need to do imo is make collisions a bit more punishing, and give the taxi a bit more animation... like in Crazy Taxi 1 every little bump and every move you made was shaking your car, which heightened the feel of you driving like a maniac

Damn, looks good! Gives you the Dreamcast vibes. Very curious about this.

Honestly, we need more arcade games like this.

Edit: I love the taxi driver racing the Uber driver!!!

This honestly looks like one of the "most fun" games revealed over the Summer Game Fest!

I was generally good at video games as a kid but I was so fucking bad at Crazy Taxi on Dreamcast.

I could only ever do like 5 fares and then the timer would run out. Was like banging my head against a brick wall. Still can't figure it out, it's my greatest gaming shame lmao.

EDIT: WTF YOU CAN BOOST IN THIS GAME?????!?!?!??!?! WAS THIS IN THE ORIGINAL???????

The major control mechanics of Crazy Taxi:

Crazy Dash - Boost start from stationary
Limiter Cut - Increase max revs/top speed for limited time. Chainable with Crazy Dash.
Crazy Drift - Drift without crashing to increase fares.
Crazy Stop - Bring the cab to a dead stop
Crazy Hop - Single button press to activate suspension to "hop" the cab. Introduced in Crazy Taxi 2.

Seems awesome, Star Fox coming back and then this, what a time to be alive. No lectures, no boring ass story shit, no GAAS slop, just pure fun. I hope it'll deliver.

I still play them on Flycast. CT is an evergreen of sorts.

CT Naomi: only 1 layout. And controls are worse with pad. I can't initiate boost or drift with multi press (I likely thinks I use clutch and pedals).
CT Dreamcast: Extra layout. Crazy Box. Easy drifting with 2 buttons.

CT2 is underrated. Its maybe not as good as 1 but the jump and multiple passengers adds a layer.

Game is fun but I still can't consistently beat it. You need to pick the right routes and don't fuck up. Doing crazy box absolutely helps you understanding the hidden mechanics. My records were nothing special back in the day, I think 15k ish. Enough to finish the game.

I never got on with part 2, I just didn't like the look of New York. Had so much fun with the Arcade game & DC version, mind. I also enjoyed the Xbox CT3 a lot too, but never saw it in the Chinhiro version in Arcades, where some people say it's a lot better than the Xbox game?

Crazy Tazi wasn't even that fun in 1999.

80% of the people who thought it was fun are likely dead by now.
Mate you think Marathon is fun, Crazy Taxi was great in it's day seeing KFC and pizza hut was fun, and the music was good, it's just not good playing it more than an hour.

The graphics are heavily stylized. That's the point.
I do think the visual noise is a bit much - but I guess the younger generations will probably like that.

Agreed. Sense of speed is definitely lacking, hmmm.
It looks the same as the originals to me though. I mean sure you can argue the old games weren't fast enough - but if they changed things too much from originals that would draw out a different kind of dislike. I am still not sure how I feel about the original level layouts making a come back - I mean I get the nostalgia play but.

It seems that with multiple maps, fast travel and things like multiplayer there are a lot things to do like races, timed challenges, etc. Its probably going to be very meaty.

And since there is an arcade mode as well, this one might be the best yet. Its kinda reassuring this game is being helmed by Kenji Kanno.

At the very least this is an upbeat colorful blue sky game. Treasure it.
