ID Software's (still employed) Lead Services Programmer had some SCATHING criticisms of Xbox following the gutting of their studio.

Losing ID tech is a crime.
I keep seeing this but honestly why is it a crime?
id Tech hasn't been very interesting since Carmack left id.
They aren't evolving it with progressive features, their only target is to run at 60 on consoles.
And whatever changes were made between 2016 and TDA has arguably made the engine produce worse graphics.
Sure it doesn't have the shader compilation issue - cause it's a simplistic renderer with low amount of PSOs mostly - or the traversal stutters - cause it's not doing real time streaming as much as it's still a level load based engine.
Even more so they stopped licensing it out to other companies to use for their games making it even less important to the industry.
So while I would prefer it to continue just so that everything wouldn't be on UE losing it is also fine IMO, not much of value in it right now.

IMO, Microsoft is just doing its old strategy: price others out, and their hardware buiness is really terrible, consider how they ruin the windows phone business (therefore lose the mobile market). The game console business and gaming industry are not the case, where one need continuous good games, great and affordable hardware, build strong brand and focused direction (XBOX always has plans but the plan will not be the plan)

Dude cries like a little bitch ID been gutted.
Then how come doom 2016 runs circles around newer doom?

Your latest game fucking sucked.
They gave plenty of people the boot.

Make GOOD GAMES

it doesn't work like that though.
You don't fire half the studio because the latest game didn't perform up to standards sales wise while also offering it day 1 on GP.
TDA is probably the first game developed from scratch after the acquisition of Zenimax. Microsoft is also responsible for the game, not just id.

Half way between 2016 and today, Microsoft bought the company.
If there is nothing to lose today, it is only because they made it that way.

I really hate that I can't do anything on X without the app and an account.

1. No I don't want to be tracked
2. Yes I do want to watch the video and see what he says
3. Yes I want to read the post
4. No I don't want to open an account either
Same. On the bright side, a lot of drama just exists on that place. So without X and social media in general...

Laugh at people all you want, Doom TDA was a failure, and no where near the quality of 2016, and didnt sell, with all these extra devs who made it a failure, and she has greenlit more than 1 Fallout, and helped Bethesda make what exactly, Starfield and Fallout 76 content!.
Now I need to laugh at you too :P.

Didn't the head of the studio say they have now the same no. of employees they had when they made Doom 2016? How is it impossible to create new DOOM games that meet the "Doom" standards?
Isnt ID Software, now at the same size it was, when it made Doom 2016, the best Doom of the recent games imo, and he might regret calling Microsoft out publically, Pete Hines got the bullet for it.
That doesn't mean anything. The average game dev "career" only lasts 3-6 years. Over a span of 10 years studios are basically all Ships of Theseus. Id might have as many people now as they did in 2015, but what if those aren't the same people? What if the ratios between the different roles are completely different now and they have significantly fewer programmers or artists?

Sorry disagree, dev career's are not our problem, only whether we want to buy and play games and the DOOM 2016 team not only made the game, they did assist with the shooting mechanics on Fallout 4, over 10 years ago with a smaller team,

The modern ID is a much bigger team with Microsoft's much higher finances and only delivered Doom TDA in 6 years and it failed, simple as, the excuse your making isnt relevant imo. if they arn't the same people and they are not as good at their job than previous devs, thats on the studio or publishers and that's 1 of the reasons Phil Spencer got fired

Thank you for this. I just tried it and can finally read comments on posts. Haven't done that in a long time since I don't have a twitter account and won't be getting one either.
