Regardless of passion, the nucleus behind AVGN and Fred is that they are web sensations whose fanbases justified pushing the brand into the next logical place. Fred, as a final product, set a very low bar. If the AVGN Movie is only kind of a piece of shit that'll be a victory for many. That's all I'm arguing.
Hey, here's another project that borne out of creativity, passion, and a rabid fanbase (spoiler, it was an enormous disaster):

so if the avgn movie does not live up to your expectations and lives up to other people's expectations, then it'll be a victory for the people who like it. riveting stuff.
Also, you don't have any sense for genuine homegrown projects vs. things hollywood greenlights. Hint: look at the writing, directing, and editing credits-- random dudes for hire vs. James and his friends who have been working with him for years + people who give a shit about the project. also, one star is a teen kid, the other is a 30 year old with a lifelong passion for film + the technical knowledge. which one do you trust to do something real and which one was a hollywood experiment in bringing youtube videos to the big screen?
they both have videos on the internet, that's the "nucleus" of similarity and it ends there.
There are things to be skeptical of in the project, but no reason to be super negative about it yet, imo. It's a good sign that we are getting updates and people look like they're having a good time.
Be patient and if it sucks, you'll have your "told ya so" moment.
For me, I'll be happy if it turns out to be a funny hour and a half long nerd episode with decent production values (even the not-so-great nerd eps end too soon for me.) Expecting anything more is crazy.
