I was scratching my beard and this bad dude reluctantly mushroomed out:

It's crazy, there are about five different hairs from that one tiny follicle. Nuts. I wish my Lumia was better at macro.

I get them relatively frequently when I have a beard, yet they never cease to fascinate me. Supposedly it's (they're?) called 'pili multigemini' and from the pictures on wikipedia they almost seem artistic.

This one looks like pine needles on a fresh fallen snow!

And this one looks asian to me somehow, I can't put my finger on why though.

I think I read somewhere that split ends are a sign of unhealthy hair, where it breaks and splits, etc.

Nice sebum and waxy build-up tho. Clip and shampoo that joint.

Some time ago, I noticed a part of my face was irritated. I scratched off a hard, black speck and thought no more of it. Days later, I once again noticed the same spot was irritated. I looked into a mirror and observed the irritation. There appeared to be something just below the surface. I scratched and picked and pealed the skin off. Out came another black speck, though slightly longer than before. What is this?!, I thought to myself. How did some hard piece of something become embedded in my skin? It was not until later that I realized it was a hair.

But my beard is a normal and upkept creature that is washed daily--I even exfoliate that mofo--and it's only about a month old. (It's my winter beard.) I just grow crazy hair.
