Australian price already includes tax.
So Americans could buy an Australian PS5 for $475 USD but for an Australian to buy an American PS5 it would cost an Australian $790 AUD (assuming the PS5 is about $540 USD with tax).

EDIT: Just to clarify those prices above are for the current discounted PS5.

Definitely. Here in the UK you can get a PS5 for £460. It's not a lot but it's meant to be £480. Original price was £450 before Sony hiked the price. GAME is selling the console at £480 with a bundle game or £500 with 2 games. That's insane

For a console that's selling so well why would you give it any kind of discount?

Retailers must've been told that a new model is coming soon

Australia has been swimming in PS5s. Either they accidentally added a zero to the end of the amount to he shipped here, or there hasn't been the demand.
Either way, that's a nice discount.

The promotion will finalise in about 3 days.

But the Series S has a retail price of AUD499 and Series X AUD749 (before the price hike) next month. Digital PS5 is AUD599 and disc AUD799.

Even with that difference, the PS5 has been outselling Xbox Series around 3 to 4:1 here in Australia without any promotion.
