A ressonable discussion on PS5 backwards compatibility and modes

So the PS5 has a number of 'emulation' modes inside the box. It can run in PS4 mode, PS4 Pro mode and PS5 mode. Here si the relevant part of the Cerny talk on BC



They didn't opt to use the older chipsets and made the GPU backwards compatible by aborbing the old logic into the new chips (effectively they haven't deprecated API's due to hardware). The approach took years to perfect with AMD.

The PS5 extra horsepower (similar to PS4 Pro boost mode) does introduce other performance issues in some games. Beyond that there isn't a whole lot. So, this gets us to thinking of some questions.

Will the games run in the legacy modes exactly as they did on those systems, or will they be 'boosted' so we see a higher dynamic res/more stable fps
If we're capping the chip frequency because it gets too fast, then is there a limit to how much of an improvement we will see in certain games?


What are your expectations GAF of BC on the PS5?
