Alien: Isolation sequel teaser trailer

Was seriously considering buying Alien Isolation on Switch (Heard it's a great port) but everyone being negative about it here just killed it off
Hardly, everyone here is blinded into thinking it's some unsung masterwork. It's atmosphere and environmental design are top notch but the Alien AI being tethered to you on which can't be fixed on consoles and the game keeps going... and going... and going... It goes from Alien to Aliens anyway. The sequel is already in the game.

Coming from an era where every game had mandatory forced multiplayer to justify the price tag they made the game too fucking long and it's a slog.

I felt this way in 2014 and played it again a year or two ago to see if I was wrong and I wasn't. I enjoyed Aliens: Dark Descent way more even with the added pressure of the timer.

Day one

i didn't hate the alien. i fucking hated those working joe things.

maybe i'll play it but i'll wait and see. a sequel doesn't always mean better.

This is genuinely my most hyped game now

And there's both a Silent Hill 1 and Splinter Cell remake in development.

Alien Isolation + Unpredictable Alien Mod is god tier gaming, one of the reasons why I will always play on my PC.
I have to give this a go. I just rebought this on PC since I have a rig now.

Though it was already unpredictable af in the first for me

The mod removes the leash, so the xenomorph is free to explore the entire map.

There will be long stretches where you won't see him, you'll start to feel safe, and then out of nowhere he'll drop from a vent and kill you.

It's nice because it changes how he interacts with human NPCs.

I have this old clip showing how he showed up and killed 3 or 4 NPCs who were hunting me.

That was fkn awesome. I love the way you can puzzle different approaches to enemies in this game and have to switch up on the fly

Thanks for the rec

I don't think any fan of this game is saying Isolation is a masterpiece, myself included.
It's just a very good game in the Alien universe and captures perfectly the feeling, sometimes that's all you need.

I'm a big fan, but also agree the game is far from perfect. The game becomes way too easy once you get the weapons, the tension disappears. The scenes and fighting with the other people are lackluster and uninspiring and the final parts are too actiony and bombastic, except the very end.

But I don't agree at all with the length. I keep seeing this and it's bothersome.
People can sink 200 hrs in an open world game, but here if it's 15-20 hrs it's too long.

its not even a good game, let alone very good. it's insanely monotonous, has no interesting mechanics, braindead stealth, and the oh so amazing alien AI is complete bullshit and just teleports around.

Your bad game, another's good game, for every amazing or masterpiece game - not this one - there's always a handful who think that game is overrated and so on. If we really took a deep dive into any game's mechanics, I think only a handful would just make it through.

You not liking something doesn't equate to "not even a good game".

Monotonous ? That's your personal opinion
No interesting mechanics ? That's your personal opinion
Braindead stealth ? That's your personal opinion

See, anyone has the right to express his/her own opinion, the problem lies in posing it as a fact

it is a fact that it has zero depth in its stealth mechanics. it's literally just hide behind object, hide inside object, hide below object. sometimes you still get randomly found, making it shallow and braindead.

it is also a fact that it has no gameplay variety in its overly long playtime.
all you do is walking and hiding for 10+ hours. everything in-between is just following a marker and braindead hacking/door opening minigames.

it's furthermore fact that the alien AI is not actually an entity that realistically roams the ship as advertised. instead it teleports around, sometimes in ways that are very obviously not physically possible, making the strealth gameplay even worse, as now you can't even strategize around the expected movement of the Alien.

the rest is just pseudo puzzles that are on the level of this: (like literally this)

we have a word for these types of games in German. we call them Grafikblender. games that blind you with visuals from the fact that their gameplay/design is trash

Every game is smoke and mirrors, would it have been a better game if the Xeno had a fixed path? Or if you have a skill and you could see it or its path?

I don't play open world games?
If it was a nice rounded 9/10 hour experience it would've been fine. What the game offers wears thin after the 10 hour mark.

they advertised it as a constantly active NPC that realistically moves around. if it actually did that that would open up interesting strategies, like if you saw it go up a vent down the hallway to your left, you could be certain that you're now save to run down the other way as it would need to catch up to you.

stuff like that.

but since it can go up down the hall, teleport all the way to the other side and come down that hallway in basically an instant, this strategic thinking goes out the window, and a possibly interesting mechanic is gone.

you could make it even more interesting by giving the player a map view of the vents and crevasses, so you could fully strategize by predicting the possible movement options of the Alien.
you know? add something actually interesting and innovative.
but instead they just overpormised (basically lie) about how the Alien works, and have zero interesting mechanics or stralth strategies in the game.

Come one man, realistically, are we pretending now that games are more than smoke and mirrors? It's all an illusion, a simple switch from normal to hard is just a shallow way of making a game "harder".
stuff like that.

Everything you listed is by design. You don't get to outrun or outthink the Xeno because that's the point of the game, it's meant to make you weak.
It also isn't a stealth game to give strategies, but the game gives plenty of stuff to predict where the Xeno spawns.

Now, if you don't like all this, it's more than fine, but don't expect something from the game that isn't supposed to be.
You can also not call it a good game, couldn't care less, but this is far from a trash game.

I'd like to see the action dialed up considerably. I'm hoping they're gonna give us more of an "ALIENS" inspired story/gameplay.
I expect nothing but the *ULTIMATE* ALIENS game from Creative Assembly here. They have to top Alien: Isolation.

I wouldn't like that honestly.
But I would like something similar to RE2 remake. It's perfect in tone, with a mix of survival horror and action. RE3R has already too much action for me.

What I would love, and to honor the first Isolation, is that they take inspiration from RE2 MR X with the Alien, and have it looking for you all around the colony.
I felt in the first Isolation, the Alien was a bit scripted in the sense that he was in the same room as you. He wasn't searching in the other rooms far away from you. But it's been a long time so I could be wrong.

I wonder what could be the basic enemies if the Alien is Mr X. I mean there's the face huggers yes, but those are tiny, and the androids are not really frightening, though they would be a welcome addition like in the first Isolation. I mean, we need to have basic ennemies that generate fear like zombies in RE2R.

Damn, now I think about a Alien VS Predator game with the Predator as Mr. X and Aliens as zombies...
