Apparently Epic's exclusivity agreement on Metro Exodus has paid off ...

It sold more digitally on EGS than on anything else.

The fact that people want EGS to fail doesn't mean they aren't selling things. They are. While we don't have exact numbers, we have enough to conclude a few things.

The game wasn't a flop. Metro hasn't had a chance on consoles before. 2033 was PC only for a long time and last light was notable but niche because it came from a small unknown studio. The witcher is the closest comparison. Small enough studio based in a slavic country makes a game based on a book that's PC exclusive. Niche but loved game overall. Sequel happens, still very PC dominant, and then the third game releases and the console market becomes a far bigger part. Games almost always do better on console vs PC once they establish a following. It's always been a trend and it's not going away soon.

Being on EGS hasn't been a major detriment compared to steam (people can argue it could have been 3.5 or 4.5 times the sales of last light had it been on steam, but a sequel that does 2.5 times better than the previous game after moving to a platform that can only be described as "PR hell" is not a failed product).

EGS has gotten tens of thousands of new customers on their platform from metro, who now have invested in the platform. Free games, plus a few more exclusives and plenty of people will be willing to stick around, because as much as people pretend to care about useless things like trading cards on steam, the main thing that matters on a gaming platform is games, and lack of features that most people aren't using (forums, reviews etc) isn't going to turn the general population away.

Guess what? Physical games sell more on xbox and PS4 more than anything else. Boy you're still going with that 2.5 number? LOL. If the game is selling so well on EGS, why didn't they talk about it?

From this site, “according to Epic Games’ recent keynote at GDC 2019, Metro Exodus hasn’t just sold well on their platform. It’s sales were actually 2.5 times better than Metro: Last Light’s sales on Steam in its own launch period. Interestingly, this is actually a much greater increase than the overall increase in retail sales performance for Metro Exodus, which was an increase of 1.5 times.”

So … it doesn’t look like that’s going to discourage this sort of practice anytime soon. Thoughts?

This says nothing tbh. How many people now know about the Metro series vs before? Is the audience larger than it was then Last Light was on Steam?

How many people are rebuying or purchasing because it's an Epic game store game?

Are these sales real or inflated/skewed because epic wants to dominate PC stores?

Alrighty then

lol, you totally missed the point. Maybe I should've said "Steam sell more digital than any other platform". The fact that you're saying a platform that's made to sell digital only is selling more than a physical platform is laughable.
