Could the video game market really be growing at a very fast rate despite statistics?

1. We know that overall the number of gamers isn't increasing at a fast rate.
2. We know that the overall number of software sold isnt growing at a fast rate.

BUT

Lets look at what happened with the gamers of yester year to what has happened with gamers now.

In the 1980's with the games of the atari 2600 and the NES, any idiot could play it and games were relatively simple. As time went on the kind of people able to play video games decreased but with the new generation, more and more computer literate gamers enter the fold.
