TLDR about story
- originally planning on reboot DR1. But decided against it since it forms the base of the lore
- all plot points from before DR2 is canon (DR1, DR0, Ultra Despair Girls)
- does not answer that it continues to Danganronpa 3 Side:Future (the anime) (but is the Despair arc canon?)

What is new in 2x2?

Apart from what is shown in the trailer, supposedly a new alternate scenario with new victims and suspects. The length is equal to that of the original game. Kind of like SMT:5V

Will the remake use the same voice lines as the original or will it include re-recordings and performances by the new actors?

Sakakibara: All voice lines were re-recorded for the remake. As I already mentioned, we managed to hire all all voice actors from the original, except for Monokuma and Monomi.

Boo-urns. I guess this make sense if the script was tweaked and since Monokuma's and Monomi's seiyuu had to be replaced.

Are Kodaka Kazutaka and Komatsuzaki Rui from Too Kyo Games involved in the production?

Sakakibara: Yes, Kodaka has the roles of story supervisor, original idealizer, and murder mystery creator in this game. Too Kyo Games is as involved in the production as we are.

Is the new scenario going to be the original DR2 plot with a few different twists, or is it going to actually change everything from the moment they set foot in Jabberwock Island?

Sakakibara: The latter. You nailed the description. It starts with the exact same lead-in, then a special event happens during the intro, and the narrative begins to greatly deviate due to it. I must add that this is not a route split. The new scenario and the remake are laid out as two completely independent games.

Neat. It will be completely different from the get-go (just with, ya know, the same characters and settings). I was a little thrown by Sakakibara's language for a moment since this kind of variation would seem to fit the definition of a route split to a T, but I can see the disconnect if a route split is seen as something occurring not at the start or by virtue of player choice in-game.

This is very exciting. 2 is my least favorite of the trilogy but they are making it sound like this "alternative story" is going to lead into the future of the series, so I'm in. Really awesome that Kodaka is back too, didn't expect that. I hope this releases on Xbox since the originals finally got ported over

According to Gematsu, this isn't a Nintendo exclusive. It is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2 and Steam. Really glad this will be hitting all platforms and have the chance to get a wider audience. I played the first three on Game Pass so I'll definitely show my support and buy this on Xbox when it's out
