Dell 2005FPW and the xbox 360

Sorry to bother you guys with this,

But I was wondering how well this monitor would do with the 360. The resolution is a bit weird, 1680x1050 Pixels. So thats 16:10. And Ive read in some reviews that the response time was 12ms. I really do want a widescreen lcd monitor, cause all those letterboxed 360 games are killing me. Problem is that I cant afford the widescreen stuff over 500 euro's.

Also I was wondering how a regular DVD would look on this screen, cause I use my 360 as a DVD player as well and this screen would become the only screen in the room. Watching DVD's in widescreen is something Ive wanted to do for some time now as well, but I dont know what this screen would do to the relatively low res DVD image. Any help would be much appreciated.

I can't really help you much but here's some suggestions.

First, there are no component inputs on this monitor - you're going to want to use the VGA adapter. Search and see what resolutions the VGA adapter supports and see if there's a 16:10 one. It doesn't support the 1650 one, but there still may be a 16x10 one.

I'd be slightly nervous though running an LCD not at its native res - use an LCD on a PC not at its native res and it usually looks pretty poor. But I have no experience with the 2005fpw though.

I know Dell has lower resolution TV's, one that's 19" and usually $100 more (it has side speakers too which I'm sure aren't the greatest but I'm sure get the job done) than the 2005fpw. Maybe this would be a better choice?

I've been using the 2005 on my 360 (via VGA) for a while now, and it's absolutely glorious. I'm very picky when it comes to picture quality, and I literally have no complaints about the picture. It's sharp, crystal clear, and has excellent brightness and color saturation. It's an inexpensive but excellent gaming monitor.

I liked it so much I just ordered a 2405 which should be here early next week.

^^^ Same. It's fuckin gorgeous. =D

2405 also has noticeable input lag at non-native resolutions. but then again it was being
compared to a CRT in that video i saw...

I have my xbox 360 hooked up to my 2405 and it looks stunning with component. I wouldn't use the VGA cables unless you have to ass they dampen the colors on the 360. The component input is much better. Make sure you set the 360 to 1080i and you will be amazed.

Problem is, I was asking about the cheaper 2005FPW type, with the lower res and different aspect ratio :).

Let me ask you (or anyone else who might know) . . . how should I be configuring my X360 and 2007FPW (so there are no component video inputs) when the monitor arrives next week?

I've already got the VGA adaptor (I've been using the X360 on a 17" 4:3 NEC LCD) and I see that the monitor has a 16:10 aspect ratio. However, the only thing close to a 16:10 aspect ratio that I see listed for the VGA adaptor is 1280 x 768 (16:9.6???).

So is 1280 x 768 the "sweet spot"? I want to minimize any stretching/letterboxing that might happen. Or am I (more than likely) missing something?

Any help/advise that can be offered would be appreciated!

EDIT

Found an article over at Team Xbox that discusses this with the 2005FPW.
Finally, the start of the test is a DELL UltraSharp 2005FPW, a 20.1 inch wide aspect monitor whose native resolution is 1680x1050. Since none of the resolutions provided by the Xbox 360 matched, I had to choose one of the resolutions available. Two options were suitable: 1280x768 and 1280x1024; the first one because it has the same aspect ratio as this monitor, that is 16:10; and the second one because it has the highest pixel density. Since this monitor will automatically scale up to its native panel resolution, I ended up choosing the latter. 1280x1024 has the higher pixel count which is the best alternative when the original resolution will be scaled to a different one.
Since the 2007FPW that I'm getting has the same native resolution as the 2007FPW, I'm assuming that this is my best bet.
