Describe the ideal vr experience that would make you instantly order a vr headset

I dont think there's a single game that could convince me.

I'd have to see a solid lineup of multiple high budget titles that combine solid gameplay with high production values and a decent amount of content.
Stuff like RPG's that get me as hyped as FFXVI and Starfield, a fully fledged Horizon VR game and not just an 8 hours climbing game, a cool Mech game on the level of Titanfall 2, etc.

Either that or a massively lower price point (as in less than half of the current price)

Have you played RE8 in VR? Or GT7? They're absolutely proof the tech works for existing games, but I agree we need many more of them, however if you haven't played them it's hard to understand how much improvement it brings.

OK, I got the PSVR2 and it was my first VR headset and I only had some minor experiences before.

I think the PSVR2 is already pretty cool.
Where could it be improved?

There should be a solution for motion sickness. I was surprised by how much of a problem this is for me and I do not use the headset too often just because of this. No idea if some kind of DLSS3 with interpolated images would be a solution to avoid reprojection.
This is my major issue, the rest is fine :pie_beaming_smiling:

Minor things beside of the motion sickness:
wireless: while in most situations the cord is no real problem it was a bit annoying a few times.

Higher resolution: the current resolution feels more like 1080p and somehow I expected more. I guess the PS5 just does not have enough power for higher resolutions, but I hope the PS6 will have. So maybe more luck with PSVR3

Modded Skyrim VR is my favorite VR game 👍
That video is kinda hilarious though, start off saying this mod pack is a one-click installation, then goes on for 10 minutes to explain important pre-install and post-install changes you need to do. For someone new it’s a mountain to climb.
I am a veteran of the Falcon 4.0 mod dance, so I am not fazed by this, fortunately. You are right, others will just give up before trying.

No I haven't. I don't really know anyone with a PSVR2, doesn't help that Sony continues to have ridiculous prices for their hardware in my country (the Horizon bundle is $740 before tax)

Either way I think games like RE8 and G7 are a good beginning, but to even consider dropping $550+ on a VR headset there would need to be way more games like that.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Swat 3 or 4 in vr...
We're getting there, the more visually impressive FPS are still stuff like Contractors which are PVP focused like Pavlov and many others but at least there's stuff like Tactical Assault and Crunch Element also now, not so visually impressive indies but PVE. Also Breachers looks like R6 Siege in VR.

A game that's just as fun at hour 578 as it is at hour 2.

VR doesn't need a bunch of 10 hour Half Life Alyx type games. VR needs one 1,000+ hour game.

when watching pov porn it actually feels like I’m fucking/getting head. that’s the only way I’d ever buy one.
Hmm i think you can already do that with the VR headsets that are out already???

If the tech was like SAO, where I could just lay in bed and not move physically, and be immersed in a full world, wow. I'd be the first in line to buy something like that.

Also Fast & Low is supposed to be really good, even if it looks like a weird Nick cartoon

Huh, I haven't checked that in years, it was good if clunky back then but its youtube/twitter seem dead yet it seems the game updates never stopped so, cool, hope it gets finished.

doing acid is way cooler than playing VR.
immersive, impressive and you will have the time of your life and all this for the price of 5€ for 6-8h.
Doubtful we will be that enthusiastic bout it being administered into psych ward, but as of now brains still have some more melting to do
BoTW2 is close.....

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
Vr became its own thing, Wii sports and sports champions were creative ways to play and exercise. I don’t see any sports with PSVR.

How about being able to play almost every Unreal Engine game in VR? There's a mod on its way which allows you to do just that.

Here's a spreadsheet showing how well it works with 255 games.

Metal Gear mech piloting game, set post Shadow Moses when many countries had there own MG designs, customisation similar to AC.
Gameplay features a fully explorable hangar and War Room, you can physically interact with your created mech.
Combat takes place in many proxy battles in various huge environments across the worlds, cities have in depth destruction, wilderness deformable terrain and huge swathes of destroyable foliage etc etc.
Scratch the VR, it would be day one for me regardless of whether it was VR or not. Just GIVE me a Metal Gear mech combat game goddamn it!

I would like it to have some sort of tread or walking/running accompanying device so I could get in true cardio while running away from zombies and stuff.

A new Metal Gear Solid VR game or a Virtua Cop, House of The Dead, or Time Crisis collection built for VR.

Whoever has those has my money.

I have an oculus quest 2 and will be getting psvr2 at some point (omg GT7!)

While it hasnt replaced conventional gaming for me it was amazing playing project cars 2 in VR. also i love firing up hot dogs horse shoes and hand grenades and just blowing stuff up. it must be noted that I use it almost entirely through steam.

Near nonexistent helmet - think glasses that doesn’t need over the head strap.
Wide fov
No cords
high res, full color gamut, deep blacks w/o banding, high fps non-distortion lenses/screen
built in hand tracking
oh! And affordable

Maybe one day. There are some, but I haven't tried them, yet.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I'd be easy to win over - if someone could invent a VR headset that didn't make me physically ill every time I used it.

The cyberpunk mod I'm playing now is badass. Granted it's gamepad only atm but it's amazing being in that world and way better than non VR cyberpunk
The mods and workarounds people have made for PC are pretty cool. The game's premise and the 1st person perspective lends themselves well to VR

Probably a game from the movie Ready Player One with a full track suit. No wires. Current gen graphics

I don't think VR needs its own special games.

If VR becomes like a light simple pair of glasses that would take me to a virtual infinitely large ultra HD cinema screen that would be indistinguishable from the real thing. I'd use it for all my gaming and I would throw out my old small monitors.

The oculus marketing of people moving around flailing their arms is dumb.
The real strength of VR is simply about having immersive displays with infinite field of vision. Sure, motion control is nice for aiming and UIs and action like that, but not for flailing like morons.

Nothing says that VR can't be enjoyed sited confortably on my ass, laying back and enjoying the added immersion it offers.

No motion sickness.
High quality experience.
Control over screen movements that don't look like you're using a Wii controller.
Compelling software.

I already own a Quest 2 (previously a PSVR) and I spend more time in VR than with flat games, (Street Fighter 6 will probably change that) but if I wasn't already a convert, a VR remaster/remake of the original Phantasy Star Online would rock my world.

If the tech was like SAO, where I could just lay in bed and not move physically, and be immersed in a full world, wow. I'd be the first in line to buy something like that.
This is what I don't want VR to become, LOL. I like that VR games make me move, my life is sedentary enough as is.

That doesn't mean I am against couch-friendly gamepad VR games, I have spent insane amount of hours playing Tetris Effect, and just finished Metroid Prime in Dolphin VR and going through Prime 2.

Well, I'm the opposite, I do a lot of physical work, so I like to come home and relax while playing.

That’s Beat Saber - the best rhythm game ever.

I can recommend the Quest Pro for that. Being able to see out of the sides makes it pretty easy to use for extended periods (until the battery runs out).

0.) Media Molecule's Dreams

1.) An FPS AAA action adventure game (Like a Half Life game).

2.) A 1.-person AAA rpg (Like a main line Elderscrolls or Fallout)

3.) A social hub (like PS Home) with mp matchmaking

4.) Online mp party games.

5.) A mp online shooter (CS, Red Orchestra etc.)

Edit: Sh!t, I didn't read OP and I've already got a PSVR2.. well, that would make me pick it up and use it daily..!

  • Camera and sound pass-through. Being able to see/hear the real-world without having to take off the headseat is important to me, because I get claustrophobia if I stay in VR for too long.
  • Lighter headseats. They are too heavy for long play sessions.
  • After using a Quest for a short time, I have to agree that cable-free VR is amazing.
