Do you collect video game soundtracks?

Simple question.

Do you collect, and if so how? (CD, Vinyl, digital).

From your collection, feel free to discuss some of your favourites.

Not many, the only two I have are the Gravity Rush 1 and 2 CDs.

But I'll be buying the Final Fantasy IX and Breath of the Wild ones soon.

Hell yeah brother. I've got a few on vinyl, and a huge digital collection. Plus some CDs here and there.

Surprisingly, I also really enjoy the Nintendo Music app. It's clean, and there's a solid selection. It could always be better, but it's really not bad.

Yes, Vinyl.

I've got a few on vinyl but I'm very selective, i only get it if it's a favorite game of mine or it has potential for sampling or using in a scratch routine

Most of them are from before the vinyl boom we are in now so they are the OG releases from when the games came out

Off the top of my head I've got

Snatcher OST (amazing cover)

Rez gamers guide vol 1+2 (criminal that it doesn't have area 5's music but it's rez on wax so I'll take anything)

Megaman nes collection picture disc (hot topic exclusive lol)

Beatmania 5 key remixes

Bioshock OST box set ( a gift from someone. I've never played the game)

Deavid soul - sparkling music ( features a few jet set radio tunes)

Dreamcast collection (most disappointing vinyl ever)

A bunch of dance mania ep's with tunes from iidx and ddr

I also used to own beatmania iidx - red traxx which is a video game vinyl holy grail as only 5 exist. I regrettably sold it years ago when I was desperate at Christmas, I still hate myself for this

That's all I can remember without going through my tunes

Yeah, on vinyl. One of the coolest I have is this:

That cost too much money 😆

Other favourites include Abzû, Metal Gear Solid (Mondo official ver.), Shadow of the Colossus, Grim Fandango, Streets of Rage 2, Metal Slug X and many more.

I have most of what I want now, but would love to have Hitman Critical Collection and Rez Infinite but I prefer them to be sealed and those cost far far too much.

I really want Brigador, Vol. 1 but I've never seen it listed on Discogs in even great condition, let alone mint or sealed, well I did once but it got bought in like an hour and I missed it. Its always £80+ as well.

I can post pics if people are interested, I made a thread before iirc.

I've wound down on buying vinyl in general after going mental over a period of a few years when I had tons of disposable cash and didnt save it like a wally.

I havent even listed to half of what I've bought so far, which is silly, I'll rectify that soon as I plan to start reading and making models again soon, I realised my mental health declined when I stopped doing that.

Though tbf I can probably resell a lot of what I have for more than I bought it for so "its an investment" lmao thats what I tell myself anyway.

My Abzû copy is the "bio-luminescent" version which glows in the dark, look at what people try to sell it sealed for:

Mine was (apparently) only unsealed and played once and I believe them but its not worth near that now because its open.

Snatcher OST (amazing cover)

I want Snatcher just for the cover and "One Night in Neo Kobe City" (and Policenauts for "Opening title "Old L.A. 2040"") ha, can't justify the cost of either mint/sealed though:

Rez gamers guide vol 1+2 (criminal that it doesn't have area 5's music but it's rez on wax so I'll take anything)

Thats mad I just checked that out, the Rez Infinite vinyl has it though thankfully. One blessing is I dislike picture discs so if I did get Rez Infinite it would save me money not having to get the LE gold one.

Collect as in physical? Absolutely not as I don't really do physical media unless where necessary.

I do however have a lot of soundtracks on my phone and downloaded through Apple Music.

I love the Obi strips on the Data Discs and Capcom releases, I wish Metal Slug X and Metal Slug 3 were done by DD instead of SNK Sound Team due to this.

I dont have Metal Slug from DD cause its really spensive. Damn you OP why did you have to remind me how much I love collecting vinyl haha.

I have the Resident Evil (Not REmake) OST CE boxset, which looks ace, I mostly bought it for the visuals, though it has a cool bonus disc where quotes are mixed into the soundtrack.

I really want RE2 OST (Not REmake 2) as well but its a lot considering its mostly for the art again. Would end up buying all of the originals... then would have to get the REmakes too lmao.

Nah, don't collect. I will get ones for game I really, really like.

I have purchased soundtracks for:
  • Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
  • Uncharted series
  • Destiny series

Im so glad I bought mine before video game vinyl collecting really took off. I got most of mine at there original prices and watched them sky rocket over the years.

One of my dance mania ep's I bought for $20 and I have seen that it's been sold on discord for over $1,500

Like wtf it's not even that good a tune lol

That's awesome! I think the reason it's missing off the original release is because it's a remix of an adam freeland song and they

A. Want to use only original tracks created for the game

And

B. Didn't want to pay extra to put it on there

Still crap that it's missing but at the time (2001) it was the only rez vinyl that existed so I was happy to still have the other stages on wax

I have a handful of physical ones, but mostly digitally. I've been downloading vg albums since I first got high speed internet. So I have a lot. Many hundreds of gb worth.

I'd like to buy Octopath Traveler 1, NieR Gestalt, Stellaris and Expedition 33 CDs if I were to ever buy any, these games have to most amount of music i have saved just for regular listening.

If PlayStation held a Gravity Rush concert... I'd go even if I had to travel abroad 💓. And I agree... I want a vinyl record too.

I was thinking about getting the soundtrack on CD even though I've nothing to play it on just to have it after you mentioned it above but then I saw THIS exists:

So I'm going for that instead 😍 its bloody expensive even used, I dont wanna think about sealed price

I highly recommend that book; it's beautiful and has a lot of information.

Any item from Gravity Rush is beautiful.

Hell YES, there is really some pure masterpiece (JOURNEY !), mostly digital FLACs with some collector's CDs full soundtrack released mainly on amazon.jo.jp (Zelda, Mario, etc...) or directly on BandCamp where I was able to get a Journey soundtrack CD signed by the marvelous Austin Wintory (Journey Musics author and MANY others games), this guy sent a personal email to thank me for my purchases, isn't that simply incredible ?! I just love him 😻

I bought the big castlevania box collection but everything else is just from collector edition stuff. I am thinking of building a fatal fury soundtrack collection though.

Last of us 2
Last of us rarities
Last of us tv series 1
Death stranding
Metal gear solid

On cd I have gta vice city box set

I don't collect, except for accidentally where a physical edition comes with a soundtrack disc (remember Deathsmiles, which came with an "audio CD" that hadn't actually been pressed as redbook and was just a data disc with some files on? LOL). I feel like if I got into it, stuff would come out, get snapped up and have gone up 800% in price before I was even aware of it... too cost prohibitive! I'll listen on Spotify & YouTube though.

Not really I even sell soundrack cds when they are included with a game. The only soundtracks I actually bought are soundtracks for Final Fantasy XI because it's my favourite game and a Nier soundtrack.

Digital but if I still had something to play physical media Id probably be buying physical.

Shout out to a game thats been in media lately, cuz it had such a kickass soundtrack I instantly bought it.

Not a big collector, but if I like a game soundtrack, and it's not on Spotify I'll usually buy a digital version if it's FLAC or something lossless.

Article:
Hi-Fi Rush's original soundtrack has randomly been delisted from all major music streaming services, including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music.

Edit: Still available to purchase on Steam Soundtracks:
