How much Valve earns on TF2 - Money for nothing.

That's a very low amount of money, glad they even keep the servers & services up for it, so both users & creators have their fun & profit, other companies would have shut it down pushing you to fan patches, hacks & servers, or a new way different game they profit more off, like UT3 -> Fortnite 🤷‍♂️

Anyone who actually played TF2 (none of you) knows this without having to watch a 30 min video.

There is nothing new here. Come back when you discover the actually interesting stuff, i.e. that the community created content is driven by what is basically a cartel, which over the years has raped the TF2 art style while systematically raking in the dough.

The questions everyone need to be asking as if the survival of the entire industry depends on it.

Imagine having a parasite in your body that took 30% of everything from you and gave nothing in return. That's Valve and the gaming industry. Only a complete moron can't see 10 ft in front of them and where this is all heading.

Epic did more for consumers and indie studios on their store in the last 2 weeks than Valve has in the last 10 years. And their game engine is supporting most advancement in the industry, not some rumored Source bullshit.
I agree with you on most things except their engine. UE5 has been a determent to gaming rather than an advancement

Gog is drm free.

Epic takes only 12% cut.

Big deal, both of them.

Steam, sure its the best. But shouldn't be a monopoly.

Maybe you'd have something approaching a point of Valve didn't:

- charge the standard industry rate
- actually have a pretty easy way of reducing the cut to 80%
- allows the selling of third party keys where Valve gets zero cut
- create the Steam deck, which years on, is still the best price to performance handheld for PC gaming
- actually have basic features like physical gift cards which the Epic store can't even offer because the cut for their store is apparently too low to even allow it
- actively support Linux and proton development to break the Microsoft monopoly
- have a store that is so rich in features and options it makes every single other store in the industry look like a joke
- offer some of the most robust regional pricing in the industry

30% for nothing except;

  1. A content delivery network
  2. Customer service
  3. Worldwide payment processing
  4. An entire storefront you don't have to manage
  5. Community forums with moderation
  6. A built in audience
  7. Source 2 has been around for 10 years and exist in Half Life Alyx and CS2 and it's been forked for Titanfall and Apex Legends, you can use it if you want but it's but forced on anyone
  8. Doesn't needs to bait users with free games weekly that don't translate into sales
  9. Linux support, keeping the platform open as it should be
  10. A shader Compilation and delivery system that should be applauded
Yeah, valve really does give gamers and developers nothing in return

Epic Games

  1. Still doesn't have a built in UI
  2. A storefront that's complete ass
  3. Spent more money fighting Apple in court and buying exclusive games that still couldn't get people to the Store
  4. Could've competed with Valve easily in feature parity if they used that Apple money for anything more than public embarrassment
  5. Still doesn't have community forums
  6. Barely has store features steam had 10-15 years ago
  7. No Linux support
  8. An in game UI that's straight up laughable
  9. An engine that literally inspires disgust at the sight of it, so unoptimized that it actually warns you in the design documentation to use upscaling from the start

Don't get me wrong, Valve aren't saints and they want your money by any means necessary like any other company but to turn around and praise Epic is...well it's retarded bro
