"I Am Tired of Deconstructions" - Dave Stewart on Postmodernism

Recently I discovered this guy, Dave Stewart, who is a really good media critic. He tends to avoid silly controversies and focuses on thoughtful analysis, with a basis not in identity politics ad hominems but in academic rigor. He goes in deep on a lot of movies and talks a lot about how deconstructionism, structuralism, and postmodernism are used these days. Really fascinating stuff.

I agree with him fully on a lot of ways. As an art student in the early 2000s I learned all about art history, and postmodernism was a 20th century art movement that carried many of the ideological values as well. This "end of history" stuff was indeed taught in higher universities, and is largely to blame for the lack of any traditional heroes or original concepts. The funny thing is, none of this is new, deconstruction itself is a very old thing, and even postmodernism is going on 40-50 years at this point. Yet it is undeniably the working model for today's culture creators.

Anyways, feel free to check out more of his stuff. He has a number of extended talks on popular films that don't focus on flashy editing or use of footage at all, it's strictly theory. And he's a pretty smart guy tbh.
