Intel GPU drivers will now collect your data

The latest version of Intel Arc GPU Graphics Software introduced an interesting change that isn't reflected in the Release Notes. The installer of the 101.4578 beta drivers add a "Compute Improvement Program" (CIP) component as part of the "typical" setup option that is enabled by default. Under the "custom" installer option that you have to activate manually, you get to select which components to install. The Compute Improvement Program can be unchecked here, to ensure data collection is disabled. The benignly named CIP is a data collection component that tracks your PC usage and performance in the background (not just that of the GPU), so Intel can use the data to improve its future products. Intel created a dedicated webpage that spells out what CIP is, and what its scope of data collection is; where is says that CIP "does not collect your name, email address, phone number, sensitive personal information, or physical location (except for country)."

Intel CIP is functionally similar to the Telemetry component of the GeForce Software. NVIDIA's Telemetry is installed and enabled by default along with your GeForce graphics drivers, and you cannot opt out from it, as it does not even figure in the "custom" installer options. AMD handles its version of CIP and Telemetry in arguably the most transparent manner. The installer of AMD Software Adrenalin presents the option to prevent its data-collection tool from being enabled at the completion of driver installation, regardless of whether you've chosen the "typical," "driver only," or "custom" install options. There's an entire page of the installer dedicated to this, you see a large checkbox about data-collection that's checked by default, but which you can uncheck, and complete installation.

Damn this is intrusive. Intel will even know the kind of porn you watch. You perverts :messenger_beaming:

I could understand Intel collecting data from bugs and crashes, to improve their drivers. But this thing is like a virus.
It collects browser data. Devices connected to our network.
And even "how we use our PCs". This seems like keylogger.
So no different from Windows itself.

Also this is nothing new, ever hear of Intel Management Engine? It's an OS that runs in the CPU that has FULL access of your entire hardware including network.

Not just Nvidia but Windows itself has Telemetry which almost no one switches off, alot people dont even know it exists.
You can't switch it off fully either, the toggle switches give a false sense of privacy. The only way to have a no telemetry Windows is by getting the Ameliorated edition which isn't official.

Noo not my data!!!

Lol yeah I understand if you keep a lot of personal records and stuff on your pc.

But some of you act as if you have highly Sensitive or illegal stuff on your PCs that cannot be found out under any circumstances!!! It’s highly suspicious 🤨

Hey, if you don't give a shit thats up to you. For those of use that actually DO care and DO keep 'personal records and stuff' (who doesn't?), software and OS developers should be required to follow transparency and simple language rules so the end user has clear control and choices about thier data.

I'll be over later today to roam around your house and make observations as I deem necessary since you have nothing to hide...it was in your lease/mortgage agreement on page 256, part III, section F in 5pt font and isn't negotiable.

Telemetry and collecting private data is different, telemetry can be incredibly useful for developing further your product, but there are strict rules. You shouldn't be watching what kind of website user go to and what kind of files they have, it should be strictly to concern the functionality of the product. I hope EU steps in big time with this, especially given how easily you can store large amount of data in vector db, which on top of that is unreadable without proper model, so it can be used for really wild shit.

Are they fucking dumb?

I'm here rooting for them and they do this? WTF... if they tried to watch game performance and crashes I could understand but getting data about Websites we visit and how we use our operational system is too much...

I hope they revert this otherwise will never look to a intel gpu again...

That's telemetry. Knowing types of websites you go to help them serve you better ads!!

hmmm I wonder how much more performance they can get out of their GPU knowing that I frequent a Gaming Forum often.

What GPU are you gonna use?
Cuz Nvidia does it too.
What OS are you gonna use?
Cuz Windows does it too.
What browser are you gonna use?
Cuz they all report home too.

Maybe time to permanently switch to being a console gamer?

That might be Google's telemetry, which concerns their business. Intel telemetry shouldn't look for these things.

I know, thats naive, but there is some laws on this in hearings, so I hope they will make it just like GDPR.

in this case its more like... you can look through my windows if you like.

but i was more commenting on how crazy some people get over this. Its bad, but to go "HOLY SHIT THEY WILL FIND OUT EVERYTHING!!" like what do you have!!?? lol

Intel cpus also have a backdoor into literally everything in your computer that has more control over your hardware than you could ever hope to have as a user

Someone may develop obfuscation for it, but that's not super likely. Intel has always been like this.

hahahaha as if people read EULAs anyway.
I bet 90% of the people who will complain in this thread havent switched of Windows Telemetry or Nvidia Telemetry.

News articles will and forums will spread the news.

Nvidia and windows can do whatever they want because they lead the market, intel has to convince users to invest into them.

Does the Nvidia snooping shit only come with the Geforce Experience crap? I only install the driver.
GeForce Experience requires data to configure your graphics card and application settings for the best gaming and content creation experience. We need to know your PC’s hardware, software for gaming, and network configuration, GeForce Experience feature usage, and geographical region.

We use this data to optimize your application settings, improve our products and services, and redeem codes for free games.

Our privacy policy explains what data we collect, what we do with it, and the legal basis for these actions. We never sell your data.

Hahahahahahaha you have too much faith in people.
You think people who are buying prebuilts(the most likely place to get an Intel Arc) are actually gonna understand what these articles are actually saying.
Hell id wager in excess of 80% of GAFs PC gamers havent switch off or even know what telemetry services are currently running on their systems.

Hell I know people who are computer literate much more so than most PC gamers and they swear by DuckDuckGo as their privacy search engine.......DDG sends data to Microsoft.

Intel has an uphill battle in the dGPU market either way, this driver update isnt going to change their outlook for better or for the worse.
If Battlemage is competitive and they market it correctly/properly they are eating the AMD market share for free, data collect or no.

There have been tools for a while to kick this in the arse.

64bitmodels

Reverse groomer.
Idgaf. Battlemage will come out with the highest tier gpu being $350 & 3080 perf, and it will kick nvidia & amd's nuts in.

If you use Windows 11 and chrome, you don't have the right to complain about privacy. You signed that away the moment you clicked check on the eula

Are Nvidia and AMD watching which WEBSITES you visit?

I don't care if they look at what BROWSERS I use... because guess what I use ALL of them(if the new duck duck go one which is very good)...

Is not telemetry supposed to be this?

"Telemetry is a Windows 10 feature that allows Microsoft to collect data and learn how users use their system. Data collected includes details about how long it takes apps to start, which programs are used most often, and many other performance metrics. This information is beneficial for improving the quality of Windows 10, making it faster and more efficient."

They should not be seeing what you browse. Just how you browse.
