I'd give it an 8/10. I found it boring through the beginning and part of the middle. However, when you first go tot hell and come back...that was pretty fucking good. Lots of monsters, great atmosphere...kickass weapons in the Soulcube and BFG. I just would have liked the whole game to be like that.

I found the 'Scriptcube' to be a disappointing aspect of the game. I was really hoping to have to
kill the Cyberdemon with blunt force
, a la the originals. I did overall enjoy the game and its incredible production values and it managed to scare the crap out of me a few times, although the 'monster closets' got kinda monotonous after awhile.

I just finished this game. I played it for like 10 hours straight today and it really left a mark on me. It really disturbs your brain after a while. Wonder what kind of dreams I'll have tonight...

I really don't know how this game scares people. I mean, I'm not a hard person to scare, I conciously don't see many scarry movies because of it, but I dunno, the way D3's enemies just became so predictable and consistent, it wasn't more than an hour or two into the game before I was desensitized to the game's entire gimmick. I guess when it is so contrived, and happens so consistently, it just loses whatever it had, because it's what you expect.

And for the game itself, I like it, it was fun. But it is not very well designed, and the only really good weapon to me was the shotgun, which was awesome. I disagree about both the soul cube and about hell. I think the soul cube nearly ruined the entire game from the point you get it on, it was like they basically handed you god mode. And I thought hell was just a huge annoyance, save for a few graphically impressive areas.

Finished it myself just now, after probably my fourth or fifth attempt.

ngl, appreciated it a lot more than back then. Maybe because this type of linear shooter is rarely to be found nowadays. And getting burned out of huge open-world titles makes this one feel almost refreshing in the current-day gaming climate.

With that in mind, it can become a bit repetitive. Some levels can be tad confusing to navigate. The shotgun is pretty much the worst out of all Doom games. And it's not exactly scary. Still, a pretty good game that has aged rather gracefully for what it is.

I'm the biggest doom fan but couldn't convince myself to beat doom 3, make me want to play this game.

The Hell levels are the best part of the game, even though they're short as hell.

Also, contrary to what some of the Doom 3 purists say, the BFG edition is much more fun to play than the original.

It's also short enough to be a great warm-up for The Dark Ages.

Back to better times.

I have been thinking in playing DooM 3 again. Never beated the Og version of it (just the BFG edition). I found a copy of the Xbox version, but sadly it is not backwards compatible, and I dont own and OG xbox. (it was mostly for collection stuff, Im aware the PC version is superior).

They made the environments brighter and gave you double the ammo on the BFG edition.

Also being able to carry both a weapon and a flashlight at the same time kills some of the tension for sure, so no wonder you didn't find it scary at all.

But hey, BFG supports VR which is cool, I'll give it that.

Nope. And it seems to be pulled off from every PC game store I checked.

I did play Arkane's 2017 reboot. Never finished it though.

The OG's obsession of being as dark as possible never did it for me anyway. The game is overly reliant on jump scares and monsters popping out of the darkest corners, which becomes predictable after only a few levels.

I beat the entire BFG edition including RoE and the lost mission. Its a really solid game. A bit slower than usual Doom games. The flashlight being on the armor makes more sense and improves gameplay, but removes some tension. Its more convenient though.

The RoE and new episode is great because of the double barrel shotgun.

It's abandonware, just go ahead and download it.

Haha yeah lol. The "open a door and be greeted by an imp in your face" got old pretty quick.

It's compatible with the Xbox 360's BC system, if you have a 360.

I will admit the game conditioned me to turn around after entering any room as it generally loved to spawn an Imp behind you.

I think Doom 3 has a special place since to me it was a more atmospheric game and is one of the few horror shooters out there.

What I would give for a port of Alien: Resurrection. What a atmospheric wonder.

DOOM 3 also has a VR edition on PSVR and a 3D PS3 edition that can also be played via PSVR through trickery.

But that was only 3 years ago. It's not that much.
Taking to a barman two weekends ago, told me he was born in 2006. I was thinking shut the hell up --- you mean to say 1996 right? ....Right?

I actually like it and think it's by far and away the most 'scary" Doom game. In the overall story ark it's considered as a side story and doesn't count as canon.

Doom 3 in VR is trippy, I own it and it's fun.

that wasn't a reboot. they aren't related whatsoever. they just reused the name. similar to how Eidos reused the name Urban Chaos for Rocksteady's Urban Chaos: Riot Response, even tho it's not related at all to the old Dreamcast/PC title.

A version of Doom 3 can be played online from Arcade Spot. I didn't know they advanced that far, thought it was all 2D games.

I still replay it every other year or so. Just something about it keeps drawing me back in. I've really come to enjoy it even more over the years.

how do you like the new dooms? :)

I like these threads because it reminds me that video games werent always shit. There was a time that thye still made good games. Not everything was dude bro parkour, twitch shooter wanna-be.

Holy crap. I was doing some testing if the PS5 pro can teleport in that other thread, but it seems it's a full-blown time machine. I hope I'm at least on the same timeline.
