McMaster Said Rice Keeps "Top Secret" Clearance; Waives "Need-to-Know"

Well this is sure to piss off the Trumpster.

Especially because it's his guy saying that Rice didn't do anything wrong. And by way of example, others in the Obama admin can also point to this.

Almost one month after it was disclosed that former President Obama's National Security Adviser Susan Rice was unmasking members of President Trump's team and other Americans, Trump's own national security adviser, H.R. McMaster, sent an official letter giving her unfettered and continuing access to classified information and waiving her ”need-to-know" requirement on anything she viewed or received during her tenure, Circa has confirmed.

The undated and unclassified letter from McMaster was sent in the mail to Rice's home during the last week of April. Trump was not aware of the letter or McMaster's decision, according to two Senior West Wing officials and an intelligence official, who spoke to Circa on condition that they not be named.

In June, the House Intelligence Committee subpoenaed Rice as part of the committee's larger investigation into the unmasking of Americans under the Obama administration. Rice maintains that she never accessed the information inappropriately and has agreed to testify before the committee.

”Basically, this letter which was signed in the last week of April undercuts the president's assertion that Susan Rice's unmasking activity was inappropriate. In essence, anybody who committed a violation as she did would not be given access to classified information," said a senior West Wing official, who was shown the document by Circa and verified its authenticity. ”In fact, they would have their security clearance and right to 'need-to-know' stripped."

”The point is, is that it lowers the bar for her," the Senior West Wing official said.

”This memo McMaster sent to Rice makes it so that she doesn't have to prove a continuing 'need-to-know' to have access to classified information and in effect is a White House pardon of Susan Rice and could be used by other Obama officials who conducted targeted unmasking of the campaign as a defense," the official added.

The White House has not responded to requests for comment.

The White House is probably trying to figure out how to keep this off Fox News so Trump doesn't blow up on Twitter (again), especially since Muller is moving on to phase two.

I had to google it. I thought it would be The Donald subreddit. These posts are just horrendous delusion. Honestly, these are keyboard warriors who probably never leave their rooms saying this.

This is someone with nearly 33 years of military service who is widely regarded among all areas of the government. He is a staunch military man and patriot and yet because he went against their God-Emperor Trump he is now on the shitlist for these folks. I used to think these people were wilfully ignorant. That deep down they knew what they were doing and saying and didn't really believe in it. Now I honestly think they are displaying cult levels of adoration. To them Trump is what the Il-Sung dynasty is to North Koreans.

Did you feel the same way about Flynn? I mean he was a 4-star general and in the military for 30 years...

With us or against us mentality is pretty common in a hyper-partisan atmosphere.

Because our spy agencies aren't supposed to be used to spy on Americans. Collecting dirt on your political rivals would actually be a pretty good example of why masking is important if it had actually happened

McMaster, who replaced Lt. General Michael Flynn in February, has recently removed several NSC staffers who were hired by Flynn and are favored by the alt-right, including Ezra Cohen-Watnick, Rich Higgins, Derek Harvey, Adam Lovinger and KT McFardland.

Those five are seen as close allies to White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon and as longtime Trump supporters who support Trump’s “America First Policy,” which Cernovich claims McMaster has called “naive.” The alt-right was also angered when McMaster pushed Bannon himslef out of the NSC.

All having a TS/SCI clearance means is that they'll maintain a good background check and proper paperwork to get the actual need-to-know clearances more quickly should a need ever arise.

Simply having a TS/SCI clearance grants you access to actually nothing - people like to imagine some sort of tiered system where having a tier of clearance lets you see everything in that tier of classification, when in reality the system is almost completely horizontal and literally everything is need-to-know - as evidenced by this letter excusing her from this universal requirement.
